  1. only saying for the Equinox and platform mates like Envision. Moving production of these class of vehicles to Mexico etc. is a slippery slope to moving more and more of it over borders.
  2. would be nice if GM's volume models were factoried in the USA. if considering Mexico or CHINA instead.
  3. These dual clutch trannies on mainstream rides just have difficulty panning out vs how well they've been making the new 8 and 9 speed regular autos.
  4. Moving to Mexico a bad idea but I suppose proposing to move to USA would be an even more charged issue.
  5. this might get some traction. the chevy's and fords of the world; the dealers are so engrained in keeping status quo. hyundai is one brand that can make headway here because neither their customers or dealers are deep in their bunkers with their preconceived notions of how the brand is marketed. Hyundai is tricky because even though they can likely produce their cars cheaper, they hold the MSRP's the same as the competition. But their lower costs allow them to be aggressive taking hits with cheap / low down leases, and also this....the overhead of this shopping experience proposed can be absorbed. I would love the day where you could find a 'test drive center' in metro areas, where you can go test drive new models, even for a small fee, and get to know them. Maybe there is a place that has a large demo fleet. And you can go without the salesperson. This is coming from a one time car salesperson.
  6. so basically the charge network is going to be funded buy the oil companies, see one monopoly end, take the cash and shove it into the new monopoly. so we have to wait for them to realize that before we see charge stations and the investments to make them practical.
  7. This might be partially why we've never seen any updates in GM's commercial vans forever.
  8. ah, where is all the cheap batteries and national convenient network of charging stations to go with it?
  9. Note, SUV's are the deal. And see, VW finally gets it.
  10. 20 grand off MSRP 11 months from now
  11. the last gen CRV was a horrible machine. At least on my test drive I hated it.
  12. hyundai sure has vanilla down pat these days
  13. nice writeup. I have been tracking many things Pacifica as our T&C lease is ending soon, and its been darn close to default that we may get into a Pacifica lease. The hybrid is attractive to me for same reasons as it would be to many. The main downsides to me are the loss of Sto N Go (which even if you only use a time here or there can be a big loss). The increased weight to me is a concern, although William does speak to that here. At least heavier equates to better winter traction. And there are other little things where the hybrid is disadvantaged to the gas version. Wishes come true with Apple CarPlay and 4g wifi for 2018. The Uconnect and touchscreen updates are huge for 2018 as well. Carplay is 75% of the time buggy and frustrating in my Malibu, but you still get used to using it. I would not want another car without 4g wifi in car. We use it a lot, my kid especially loves it and it helps save on the phone data. The Uconnect in 2017 has been quite problematic and so the updates promise to make things better with that. Probably the most frustrated of Pacifica customers have been the hybrid intenders and (few) owners. Many have ordered them for a year ago or so, and still have never been delivered. There were stops and starts on the sale, and for long periods you could not buy one. The technical problems that caused this likely seem to be identified. But whether you can still can the one your ordered is still a problem. Many have tried to cancel their orders and that has been an issue too. Many have sat at a dealership waiting LONG periods of time to get fixed. I think when we actually see 2018 hybrids it will be a telling moment. those who have or have driven the hybrid love it...apart from the big teething issues. The gas version has had its share of teething problems too. So the choice is not easy. pacifica forums has great resources to learn what's up. Despite that, i think if you were thinking about getting a 2018, i would not hesitate, and i would get in line to find out when you can get one. We'll probably go for the gas version; the only other alternatives I am considering are the Traverse or Enclave for 2018 (but those are more $$$$).
  14. Finally had a chance to rinse the winter crud (last winter's) out of the floor mats and liners, and had to get rid of all the bugs plastered all over the front end. Ran the car through two separate washes, so i decided it was worth it to spray wax it and tire foam the tires just so it would look spruced up. Butte red was a great color for this car, which is not available any more.
  15. Aspens were really nice rides. Congrats!
  16. that ad from 94, mpg ratings were calculated in an inflated fashion. was is 2008 when they made the EPA standards more realistic and everything dropped like 15-20%? HD truck buyers use trucks in so many more difficult conditions than the EPA test for normal cars. Not sure the test outcome would even be relevant. How do you address towing? How much towing? What is your load? etc. This is just people who love regulations just dying to regulate the shith out of something that is not, and by doing so create more taxes and penalty fines. This is a money and power grab. If there were an agreement to rate fuel consumption on these beasts, then it would need a test specific to the uses of these vehicles. And like i said they get used in so many different ways outside the realms of the usual comparative test.
  17. Which is why we need to get rid of CAFE or seriously curtain its never ending noose tightening.
  18. the same first two things i thought. Yes, and to be honest I think Cadillac should just exit this market in the US and consider putting all resources into the CTS size / CT5 replacement. edit, there is still a downmarkey vibe here. Like this is a car the subprime lenders created to get people into who would want a BMW 3 and will never get approved for. also, there is not just an Infiniti vibe here, but an Alfa Romeo vibe to it as well.
  19. This is one of the most sensible things about any topic i have heard in a long long time
  20. This is all pretty much no shit sherlock to at least folks like us on this forum. I will say this. The tiny turbos EPA out at great mpg. If conditions are favorable, they will deliver some great results to live up to the tested numbers. And if driven such. Need big acceleration, or if conditions are not right (winter blend gas and freezing cold, load up with extra weight, bad stop and start traffic, etc.) and you see big drops. Still i think biggest factors to basic mpg improvements are aerodynamics and vehicle weight. A light teardrop shaped sedan will pull better than a similar sized CUV that sits higher and probably weighs a bit more. After that, gearing and power torque/ where it is, are next. AWD loses mpg no matter how you slice it. There is likely an optimal point for each vehicle that would find an ideal balance between raw displacement, boost, vehicle weight, size, and aero, and gearing.....factored against desired acceleration and what speeds most frequently driven. One of these days I will get my lifetime gas log made out on my Malibu. At 15,000 the DIC was right on the combined EPA pretty much (31). But wide swings, like 24 in winter, and 25 mile averages of 47+ and a 10 mile leg of 53+, so many things make huge impact. With these small motors for me what kills mpg the fastest is stop and go stoplight to stoplight, start stop, even with auto shutoff it KILLS gas mileage. Getting going again with little displacement, from a dead stop, the thing DRINKS gas like kids drinking Hawaian Punch at a birthday party. I think I would like a plug in hybrid with a turbo gas motor, I'd have it all. What's sad is that our manufacturers have guns held to their head to meet these tested EPA regs, so these tiny motors, that's what they put in the cars......they can't put in the cars the engines people REALLY want. If you want a v6 these days its getting to the point you need to go 40k-50k on the MSRP.
