  1. Ram trucks have gone to the shift knob. And after using it in our new van. I like it. It frees up space definitely. The days of the big shifter knob may be coming to an end.
  2. in the truck, the shifter to the passenger side should leave some more room to splay the legs and let it all hang out.
  3. The new Ram front end is definitely the antithesis of the current Ram and the new Chevy. To me, this new front end could easily be mistaken for a Chevy or Ford as well as blending into the Jeeps adjacent to it on the dealer lot. Not a bad thing really. FCA is trying to unDodge the whole lineup and evidently that includes stripping Ram trucks of dodge signature cues. The touchscreen and Uconnect in our new Pacifica is fabulous, the huge new screen in this truck i will say will be a big advantage in the market. Will look way better than what GM and Ford will be putting in their trucks unless they upgrade.
  4. Yes, people need to go to those pics on the Chevy web site before finalizing their opinion. There are some really good pictures of all the trim levels and the sculpting really looks great in some of those pictures.
  5. Car and driver has a writeup and pics. Not bad but the grille is weak. The 'hybrid' setup is intriguing
  6. Will Ford even bother to move the shifter over to the left side (driver's side in the US) of the console?
  7. I don't really have a problem with any of this and its generally favorable but I am getting a recent Hyundai or 1980's Ford vibe out of the greenhouse and profile. Kind of like the Aerostar / Tempo / EXP / Blocky Mustang days. Or maybe even a little current taurus vibe on the side. So, this has a driver oriented center stack now, are those coming back into vogue now? I don't think we can expect VW to lavishly trim out the inside of this, but i would expect it to be sort of like the new Tiguan inside. VW is making smart decisions to gain back share. Properly sizing their models and adding the SUV's. Doesn't bother me if it takes it away from the snooze Japanese brands.
  8. Count me firmly in the like camp. Really like the balls out sculpting on this thing. Chevy truck styling finally comes alive.
  9. Nice, lack of V6 is an issue. But Ford seems to be getting rid of nearly all NA v6's so unless there is a new NA v6 coming out, this won't see one. 4 cyl only may just be a way of keeping this from stepping on F150 toes. When i was selling used vehicles, one of the most popular pickups was the old Ford Explorer based truck. People loved those because they were trimmed out much nicer than typical rangers. This new Ranger has a seemingly posh interior design which will appeal to fans of that old Ford Explorer pickup.
  10. GM already had a hybrid truck before I like the weight reduction from an mpg perpective, but does a lighter truck have a more difficult time providing traction for safe towing? That in line 6 diesel would have been my dad's wet dream to be able to get the small diesel in a GM pickup. I bet it's a hit. I might even think about it. The interior is typically cosmic bizarre per the course for GM trucks, but i hope the plastics are done well enough so it looks good and not plasticky like it sometimes can be Otherwise, pumped about this truck! I bet with the lighter weight, a v6 should get really sweet mpg here. Is the 4.3 still being offered?
  11. I think that even though they have taken little baby steps to fix the interiors, things like the wonking huge parking brake lever and otherwise cheap and indifferent switchgear give the impression that not a lot has changed since this came out. Sad, because its a decent car, and putting lipstick on the pig isn't quite enough. The Passat is literally one of those cars you can recommend 'at the right price'. Too many of the Passat trim levels are 'undertrimmed' inside and look cheap. So if you like the Passat it really is about what you pay for which trim level you are willing to settle for. By the way, the Passat has become a great used buy. If you want a larger sedan with space and the turbo four is a decent performer....depending on trim you can usually find good selection with low miles for good prices. A couple months ago I had looked at a used 2014 with 5,000 miles on it for my mother. It was only like 14,000 bucks. I didn't pursue it though as it was cloth. I could have added leather by aftermarket and would have made no difference to her. The size of the Passat is what her and my dad were liking when they looked at diesel Passats a couple years ago. With the GT maybe it means VW will be pumping more V6 Passats into the market. the 4 cylinder turbo is new for 18, it is upsized to 2.0 but curiously is retuned in such a way that it doesn't really have more power. So it is not a 2.0 like in a GTI. Can't blame VW though, they need to recover their US plant investment and hey that's tough to do when the government is slapping huge fines on you that take forever to pay off.
  12. I actually thought the new Traverse drove well and had good power and handling. It's larger and not as nimble but overall its the best blend. Where GM screwed the pooch was downsizing the Acadia. I've driven a few of your list, my feelings CX-9 - was pretty nice but did not wow me and the 4 cylinder was a weak spot. Nice interior but cramped in cargo and third row. Pilot - some friends have one and I rode in it. From a passenger perspective I was not wowed. Highlander - Toyota sheep love the weirdness of Toyotas. I have a good buddy, they have a highlander and its their second one, and they love it. but it was their upgrade from a CRv so you can imagine anything would be amazing after a CRv. Grand Cherokee is nice, but there is no Jeep 3 row yet. Durango - i've not driven but from what i have read, its sort of a polarized split. Some love, and some think its not up to snuff. I like the interior mostly but it still feels more truckish than carlike. Not sure how efficient space wise it is. Explorer - I'm completely tired of it. Second row leg space is cramped. Not bad otherwise but it badly needs an update and longer wheelbase. I love the flip fold third row like was on my Taurus X. Edge - only 2 rows but is very comfy. I like that someone makes a 2 row that does try to put in a compromised third row. Just needs a decent center stack! Atlas - drove nice, in the right colors is nice inside but otherwise can be perceived as cheap inside. Decent space. Looks good mostly but not luxury. V6 is quiet and fairly smooth but is deficient in lunge. Ascent- will probably be popular, but i think it lacks a 6? And will have typical subaru indifference / UJS interior inside. A puffy Forester. 3 row crossovers are what the family sedan used to be. We're glad we got the Pacifica instead of the 3 row crossover. Car and Driver new article on the Pacifica pointed as bette than other 3 row crossovers. I agree. Just that it lacks AWD and the SUV aura.
  13. I think gm badly needs to work a twin turbo v6 option into its crossovers like Acadia, traverse, XT5 etc
  14. I drove the 2.0 edge and I think it's decent and can function as a base engine. To me though, a 2.3 upgrade choice would still be a best practice. And, I also agree on the v6 being available. I think ford is phasing out their NA v6's actually! And the 3.5 is ancient and in 2019 is basically a boat anchor that is a 15 or more year old design. They got rid of it in the mustang too. So they basically have no replacement To be honest then the 2.7t v6 should become an option on Upper scale normal edges We love our new van and one of the reasons is the v6. The smoothness and immediacy of a v6 compared to a 4. If I project here and just loosely compare our recent van acquisition vs considering 4 cyl crossovers like the edge. The v6 turned out to be an advantage. I will be interested to see how the traverse 2.0 does in the market.
  15. yes, it needs help. a larger touchscreen on top and i think a secondary screen to fill some of the stuff below. that's mailing it in! the shifter and cupholder area is pretty nice though. standard edge's only 4 cylinder for 2019...interesting to see how that pans out. And its the 2.0 only, the 2.3 should be offered.....
  16. i didn't clarify, what i meant was that Ford will likely only have 2 sedans for sale. the small focus and the mid/large Fusion.
  17. It's still worth it for Ford to have a mid sedan because that represents a price point that many new customers are willing to pay instead of 5-10 grand more for crossovers. Ford will likely consolidate to Focus and Fusion, and that's only two models and that will sell more than enough.
  18. I don't see the Fusion going away. TBH if they put in a whole new redone interior, and some exterior tweaks, with their multitude of powertrain choices, they could sell it for 5 more years at least.
  19. i think the ATS series is too small for a lot of people.
  20. blu, the new tesla is out, you should get one, here is the unboxing!!!! https://youtu.be/6K_nTNvyTtE
  21. I'll add, Spark EV's used....good buy, as low as 8-9 grand and 30-40k miles in some instances, just they are only in certain parts of the country to be found. not bad for 327 lb ft of torque....
  22. I've had some interesting observations over the last couple years when i was looking at used Volts. About 18-24 months ago when there was a bunch of lease return Volts, 3 years old etc.... they were getting really cheap in some cases because so many were coming off their lease returns. The used 2013 with 36,000 miles on the market in mid 2016 was sometimes had for 13,000-14,000. Here at week one of 2018, if i look at used 2013 Volts and some of them do still have 36,000 miles they are actually going for more money (15 grand plus) for the same car, now 18 months older. Leasing electric cars will perpetuate drops in used retail prices but if you time it well and buy one of those 3 year pre owned, I think you will get it for a fair price and after you buy it I don't think you will lose a lot more on depreciation. I think that will be the sweet spot for ownership on an electric car. For leasing new, the problem is california customers will get more incentives offered to them than other parts of the country. On Volt fourms and places like leasehckr you see many examples where between the extra tax credits and special localized incentives, things like Volts and Bolts can sometimes be had for little down and absurd monthlies. Like 250 a month zero down and then no gas bill. Spark EV's towards the end were going close to zero down and 100 a month for places in CA. Foolish not take advantage of leasing when its like that.
