*edited for correctness* why toyota is wrong here. they redesigned this truck to be bigger and heavier and drink more fuel, in the quest to double their market share. i.e. deliberately reducing their fuel economy average in the quest of sales. i.e. not caring about fuel consumption. GM tries to maintain their market share and serve an existing need and market despite competition increases, yet improves their mileage and has flex fuel...i.e improvement Toyota purposely degrades their mpg. GM tries to improve. HMMMMM good thing none of those oinkers with a sloppy "T" on the grille didn't ram head first into a concrete wall by accident in the arena. that 4 star front impact rated 'beast' might have injured someone. They ought to fully box the pig's bones next time. did anyone confirm for me yet if toyota is really stupid enough to use belts to drive the cams in their new turdra? i'd like to know. if they did, for that reason alone, you'd be a fool to buy a toyota oinker. i hear toyota signed a deal with a hollywood studio to make a sequel to a really successful film from a few years ago. TOTAL RECALL 2: RETURN OF THE TUNDRAS.....cause that might be on the horizon (recalls) based on the last couple years...........

New auto rules will require stability control

a few bad GM performances too. key autos fail whiplash test
-
toyota's 4 star frontal crash tests alone can be exploited. 'if your truck wilts in a frontal impact, how can you expect it to hold up working hard for you? Will it outlast your payment book? xx percent of all chevy's registered since 199x are still on the road today' 'since when do Japanese know what Americans do with REAL trucks?'

that's ok, you should have given it a go anyways. only 2% of the lemmings left in the business have any sense of artistry left after a year or two of the man 'bringing you down in the real world' anyways...... you woulda been just fine! -
too funny, the twisting of that great 70's/80's classic pop hit........LMAO the 'slacks' and 'maxx' alone had me busting gut

2008 Jeep Liberty
regfootball replied to Chris_Doane's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
previous poster beat me to the notion of this liberty no longer being a chick car and perhaps that's why we have the compass. At least this Liberty looks pleasantly macho and not at all cute like the last Liberty (Jeep's interpretation of a menstrual cycle). Perhaps the Liberty won't have the cool factor the Nitro might have cruising up and down the Virginia Beach strip, but at least the interior is subtly improved over the Nitro enough so that it will be tolerable on the morning commute. There is just enough different that it doesn't appear to be cheeseball and its an improvement over the chick car interior of the previous Liberty. I actually do like most of what Jeep has done lately excepting their penchant for bad plastics. I do really think the Commander is neat, even if it can use improvement. The compass is bad, but the patriot seems a bit nicer. The GC and wrangler are bang up. BTW, the FJ Cruiser easily has the worst interior I think I've seen recently on a production vehicle....but the Xterras is well done....basic and purposeful. Jeep schmeep anyways. The H3 is what i would get in lieu of any Jeep. -
NYIAS: 2009 Ford Flex
regfootball replied to mustang84's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
now i know my world is f-ed up when fly professes sweetness for a ford. ok, the front and ass views are much improved over the show car. the side view is extremely awkward, now however. and the overt boxiness goes beyond the land rover classiness and goes into 'just frickin boxy'. this is still not something folks will trip over themselves to buy. the acadia still renders this effort pretty much moot. the chevy lambda will slaughter this. i am not sure if this 'grand wagoneer meets xb' look will amount to anything more than a niche. it may sell like gangbusters for 3-6 months out of the chute for all the freaks that need to drive something different in hopes of being the first to start a new trend and thus have have their societal existence justified in this world, but i fail to see how this vehicle justifies exiting the minivan segment that ford itself used to sell 200k units a year in. This thing may hit 50k a year if they are lucky. I'm pleased the interior is much better than the concept, but the interior still has a dull as sin dashboard. this dashboard is atrociously bland. they are trying so hard to make a 'budget' 'S80' dashboard and its at least got one part of that equation working. it's nice that they basically recycled the freestyle's seats with some new stitching patterns because they apparently had no budget to do this vehicle either. i suppose the taurus' interior redo will have this dash, since ford likes to share bad things lately. and like i said in another topic, the lambdas render this useless anyways. someone said in the previous topic that the lambdas were starting off slow. BIG BS! they are flying off lots! go to your GMC (NOT GMC TRUCKS) dealer and you might find one Acadia on the lot, but about 200 Envoys and Yukons. Thing is, I am a slut for cheap wheels and if this tanks i could probably stomach driving it when they discount the snot out of it because it looks roomy and will be safe like all Fords usually are. It will be cheap to operate and fix and have cheap cheap cheap insurance. It looks like it will be out when my 500 lease is up. My Ford dealer is two miles away and Ford Sync will be out then. The Taurus X is looking repulsive to me until they fix the interior and the Edge is a two row with a cheap plastics and door panels on the interior (even though i love the ext. styling and some of the dash). Of course if the Acadia ever gets affordable, its in my garage. Love the sweeping wraparound, driver oriented Acadia dash. Right next to the AWD G8 (wishful thinking). -
been gone. saw the headline....and i just said to myself, gotta be kirk...... Kerkorian bid could be good for Chrysler

Lucrene tanking is another reason statesman needs to come ASAP.

Hyundai said to release new BH to compete against luxury cars
regfootball replied to Clownzilla's topic in Hyundai
the gist of my comment was that the hyundai won't have any price advantage over more desirable cars like the dcx 300. the hyundai is an unoriginal design and will not have top notch performance attributes. so it will not scare any established competition. only poseurs will be buying this car because they can't pony up the money for what they really want. hyundai=imposters -
SRX=too small Sclade = too big, bad mpg, body on frame Caddy needs another SUV inbetween
-
BTW, if the allraod was so hot, why they bring the Q7 over? simple...the Q7 is an SUV.. the allroad, although equally capable...was merely a wagon. The allraod didn't sell like a real crossover SUV would. BUYERS want crossover SUV.s hottest segment on the planet right now. Same logic applies to saab. They don't want wagons entirely. Many won't buy a wagon but will buy the suv and vice versa. The new MDX is flying out of showrooms.
-
That must be some good crack. The sedans give image to luxury marques, but in case you haven't checked, the SUV's are what rings the coffers at the luxury dealer. X5, M class, G class, Q7, RX, XC volvo etc.......the 9-7x is badly outlcassed and is not even considered by Euro intenders. A competent and credible SUV is what Saab needs to remain relevant to those buyers. And the Saturn Outlook does not function that way either, because Euro/lux buyers want a Euro/lux car. Why do you think they created the 9-7x in the first place? Saab dealers said they needed an SUV most.
-
actually, the ford CVT was VERY GOOD. I wanted one over the 6 speed, but to get the limited 500 FWD i needed to get the 6 speed. yup, needed 6 speed to get heated seats. the ford CVT with another 50 hp would have been kick ass. butter smooth. the only reason they are switching to the new 6 speed is to mate to the new engine and to use their investment with GM on the new tranny. that and the whole front end is new on the taurus. engine cradle, suspension, engine, tranny, AWD system, etc. the cvt had supply issues and was costly

Honda Civic-terrbile value, ridiculous interior and exterior Toyota camry-overhyped and soft, recalls, ugly Jeep Wrangler-not a sedan Saturn Aura-the bomb! Chryser Sebring-funny looking, feels like a rental Dodge Avenger-hickish, but maybe ok Volkswagen Jetta-small for what you get for your money my guess is if you drive that whole bunch, you will like the Aura the best. you know, funny thing. base CTS or lightly optioned ones are selling at huge discounts. Depending on your budget......a lower priced CTS may be worth checking out if you are ok with RWD.

STARRING SHANNON TWEED NO DOUBT CVT's are good if done right. DSG is probably a better option overall. I drove through the dodge lot this morning. they had some big 22" or bigger wheels on an Avenger. It seemed to fit the look but i was left wondering, who is gonna buy this car?
