no pushrod v6's please.

i am not sure how the one journalist can say the interior works. the plastic is bad and the design is bad. yet, the whole package survives nonetheless.

imagine if the carmakers didn't have to spend $$$ to hire PR departments whose seemingly sole task these days is to mind f_ck the mass media into creating a free PR machine.....(as long as they pay the ad bills...)

C&G @ NYIAS: Saab
regfootball replied to z28luvr01's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
every year when i auto show it i keep coming back to how nice the little 9-3 is. it's pricey though and too small for me. the lack of a competitive 9-5 is what has killed saab the most. to me, saab should be gunning for a slot between vw and acura and out euroing VW. cars that are better than VW, more interesting than acura crap, and having scandinavian flavor. it does not need to be wierd. it does need to be distinctive and the powertrains need to be current. saab could double their US volume just trying to crack part of VW's sales....if they had a 9-3 and 9-5 that were packaged in a way to take away sales from high end jettas and the passat line. so if the 9-2 and 9-7 made money it does reinforce rebadging behavior, which is unfortunate. i would be excited about the 9-4 but the styling is too blah. truth be told, had saab come out with a competitive SUV on time like all the other euros they would not be in the mess they are either. don't kid yourselves, the luxo marques were not kept afloat by sedans and small cars either, for the longest time. volvo kept the lights on as much by the xc90 and xc70 as anything. look at audi and all road. that tanked and they even had to bring the requisite porker (Q7) over as well. saab should take the srx and remake it in its image as the new 9-7. turbo v6, new body and interior. saab needs an all new 9-3 and 9-5 now. and 9-1/2, 9-4, 9-7, aero. -
3.6 was an option on the ultra for a couple years. very few made. i bet they were hard to find. for me, something like the taurus x now having a 260+ hp motor means not neccessarily needing to hunt down a rendzevox ultra.

New York '08 Preview: 2010 Pontiac sports truck
regfootball replied to Intrepidation's topic in Heritage Marques
my gosh, the 10k of this pontiac may sell per year will not harm the brand. chances are better it will enhance it. and yes, this is directly the same type of ride as the SSR, the style is a lot different but the buyers will be somewhat the same. the SSR was a roadster though. maybe pontiac sells these for a couple years and then switches the imports to the g8 wagon. this is one of those vehicles that instead of folding to whatever the media dolts say will happen, you just need to get in the showroom and go from there. there are plenty of truck fans out there that want a niche truck and this might give them that. Let's let the process play out. -
NYIAS '08: 2009 Acura TSX
regfootball replied to siegen's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
c'mon, edmunds RIPPED the new tsx. -
bottom line is US sales this year may not crack 15mill and GM is not the only company, nor ford or chrysler, that has to brace for this. when the market contracts, share is what is crucial. toyota can't expect their business to go up either. why these stories always have to be doom and gloom for detroit shows the ignorance of the media. can we also talk about acura's sedan sales in the $h!ter (at least edmunds dug the claws out for the 09 tsx review)? or how many bread and butter cars like the fusion and focus are on the uptick, even if Lexus has many models that are down? what has toyota done to address this market downturn and gas prices? Tundra, Sequioa, 70k IS Lexuses. etc. mere reskin of the matrix and corolla instead of new cars. Let's talk about how skewed toyota's priorities are.

journalists are hardly experts in their field. writing about something they didn't have enough knowledge to get a real high paying job about was all they could find. so your scraping the bottom of the barrel to find people who really aren't knowledgable about what they write about.

i think the size of the rendezvoux was nice, lexus RX sized....i still think buick needs a 2 row. (2 1/2 row). the enclave is quite a bit bigger.

screw that we want to see what Mrs PCS looks like

05 aztek 3.4 fwd 20 mpg consistently 84,000 miles brake job and new tires at about 70,000 (no lie, orignal tires went that long, they just cupped and got noisy for awhile) no other defects except both front wheel bearings replaced under warranty (including one outside of the 3/36) i am not kidding when i say, no defects. it may not have european fit and finish.....but when you buy a good priced vehicle cheap and NEVER have to put any money into it.....you tend to like it. My main complaints are weak brakes and the front seats break down a bit and lack support and comfort. i have considered trying to find a rendezvoux for the wife to replace it. maybe an ultra with the 3.6vvt and AWD, but those are RARE.

your desire for a cts is even questioned after sit in the g8. the cts is a nice car, but the g8 just looks more right.
-
having been in the g8, and touching it, and all, if you park the g8 next to the malibu your desire will be immediately obvious, the g8 stands out well above the malibu. that said, if RWD is the deal breaker than the Malibu is a good fallback.

Camaro Engines? 4 Cylinder Turbo considered by Lutz

Camaro Engines? 4 Cylinder Turbo considered by Lutz
regfootball replied to hyperv6's topic in Chevrolet
wow, lots of emotion around here. did chevy err in making the camaro zeta or should they have greenlighted a lighter alpha? the 2.0DI with the weight will be tough. the turbo motor lacks the torque of the v6. it's a lighter motor, but by how much? if the 4 cylinder was a 2.5........... i think the DI v6 will come in around where it is in the 09 traverse. 280+ hp. re: the mustang. Ford has decided the car needs to be affordable. GM may be screwing the pooch making the camaro too pricey. Also, mustang may get ecoboost 4 and 6 cylinder motors. GM may end up with competition in lower priced mustangs with a turbo four and the ecoboost v6 with 375hp or whatever may come in cheaper than GM's norm. asp. v6. I am glad, no pushrod v6's. It does make you think, why can't they put a 2.5l turbo 4 in say, a G8? or other zeta. -

prediction, manual trans option gone from CTS in a couple years. (CTSv to still have). The G8 will carry the stick torch.

i always thought GMInside News stood for Gay Male Inside News. was i wrong?
-
exactly. how many times do we need to remind that women and wussies that read CR drive the car market. I sat in a g8 today (comments on a thread in the pontiac section). The malibu comes off as crap in comparison. The presentation of the G8 is so much more of substance and restraint and good taste. Not knocking the malibu, just saying the G8 is probably as well done as anything GM has right now. I saw some CTS and STS on the way back from lunch and thought, who would buy that at more $$$$?

NYIAS '08: 2009 Honda Fit
regfootball replied to siegen's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
yeah, camino is right. can we get something with styling? yet, the car itself is high functioning. I'll assume it drives good. It would be nice to see an optional high perf engine. the point to make here is GM sorely needs a car like this. Chevette, anyone?
