i have to say, the writeup changes my perception of this revision. i thought they were going to make it a floater, now it seems its a legit bargain offering compared to say the germans, and the rear drive japanese lux cars. i dont really like the inside or outside but i do appreciate nissan's effort to make it perform.

curse got me again. about 6 months since the last time. was driving. sudden massive hailstorm. big effing hail chunks. golf ball size and greater. so dense you could not see. it was like driving into gunfire or hundreds of folks banging on your car with hammers. frightening actually. my wife was the one driving. she actually managed to get it parked under part of an overpass to avoid a lot of hits. still the front and roof were getting raped. we drove again for a bit and then had to park again. one lady parked next to us and got out of her Japanese $h!hbox (CRV). her windshield was toast and she was moaning about all her dents. my windhsield has no cracks. Japanese quality. ha. surveying the damage, considering the intensity of the storm the car held up well. my aluminum hood has a fair amount of small dimples but no real huge ones. the roof got quite a few but again none severe. at least on first inspection. this sucks though. the car is a lease. if i owned the car i am not sure i would fix it right away. there is a ford and chevy dealer right up the hill from where i parked. it would be fair to say their entire inventory got pummeled. i'm mad but not. i did not have a very dreadful accident like blu had (hope you are doing ok blu). the car held up well because of its heavy construction. sucks though. my deductible is high if i choose to fix it. dammit.

VW Rabbit gets a carrot from Consumer Reports
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Volkswagen
myer, that is great news because it seriously makes me consider it as my next car. i couldnt justify a small car for me if it only got 25. if i can get a fun small car with 30 mpg, i might just do it and the rabbit, i really like. -

Source: GM plans more restructuring
regfootball replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in General Motors
astra is a nice car that needs a hp infusion and some enhancements to creature comforts. its kind of a hidden market gem that is overshadowed by some of the other overall goodness of some market competition. -
if i don't eat before i go to the grocery store my bill ends up being 20-40 bucks higher.

Source: GM plans more restructuring

my buddy had an X-11. kinda fun car, practical. Hey, think the dorks at GM are planning to rebadge citations or malibu maxxes into saab 9-3's? -
yeah, and they say the fish sauce / fish oil is good for ya, but sometimes i am told there is nothing like a good juicy steak. never had steak myself.

since zeta is sold in AU and the middle east and china i think GM will do ok as far as amortization. i thought i read where zetas rear suspension isn't even aluminum. WTF? no wonder its heavy. having driven both the v6 and v8 G8 i will say this, the car at a minimum needs a v6, i don't think a turbo 4 would make for a desirable car. the v6 is not going to create wows. the turbo 4 would draw attention to itself as working way too hard to move the mass. what should happen is a high torque, good mpg 250hp / 280-300 tq direct inject version of the 3.6 which would get better mpg as a base motor, working at low rpms'. then put the 300hp di v6 as the mid level option and then the v8's. personally i would prefer an overhead cam v8, even with the small blocks good power. i like the cammy sound of OHC. the v6/5 speed in the g8 now needs to be refined and made 6 speed and smoother overall, so i can't see how a buzzy four with turbo whine can come off as good in that car. maybe gm is better off retooling in the future with a newer lighter weight rwd bias car. another of zetas faults, no AWD option. unforgivable if you ask me.

you know i can relate a little bit of a similar story here. 3 yrs ago when i was looking to get into my car (which ended up being my 500) on the same day i test drove a 3 series and a cts, both with stick (3 series did not have sport pkg). the cts was used with the 3.2 opel motor. the bmw i think was a 328 or 330? the 3 series was composed and serene and all but quite honestly it was boring and dull. nothing to get wet over. the cts on the other had was fun and seemed to be more urgent in its moves and its suspension. i can only imagine how much better a 3.6 sport cts is and now even how much better the new 08 is. i ultimately had to pass on both because the cash outlay was too much and i wanted front drive and more utility but my point is that I too prefered the CTS to the 3 series that day. A hottie excoworker i know showed me her new 06 beemer recently and to be honest that didn't impress me either. i like the new cts a lot as well. in summation, don't assume the 3 series will always win the customer comparo. i really think the cts has an attitude that all the dull clinical german cars lack. perhaps that is why oldsmoboi likes them, regardless of if there is a price advantage with the cadillac sometimes. when i looked the get into price was the same and i still would have gone cts i think.....lease wise at least.

British government proposing carbon ration cards
regfootball replied to mustang84's topic in The Lounge
this ranks up there with the love of soccer and being in love with the notion of a 138hp astra as a performance car -
the paradigm is changed enough these days and the customer expectation high enough that regardless of front or rear bias platform, I would suggest that one or two or even the whole line of buicks should have available AWD. IMO no chinese park avenue is a forgivable sin if a Lucerne replacement has AWD optional and one motor of 300-320hp. Especially if a lowly ecoboost taurus packing 350hp and awd hits market, why can't buick step up with something besides a 10 year old northstar, pushrod v6's and front drive only?
-
once we get rid of the current regime, that will help the most.
-
no excuse why they cant import some chinese park avenues. i really almost don't care about gm anymore. as many things they get right, they seem to eff up more. they only look at it from a narrow minded fat white middle aged michigan man perspective......maybe it is time to give carl peter the reigns. really, i don't care. chrysler and ford seem to have rwd plans and make no excuses. gm is pure bull$h! is all. w bodies for everyone!
