  1. minis are selling well now because its 'an entry level bmw' and 'its good on gas'. if gas were cheap and people had cash flow like they used to, same folks would be buying real bmw's and other fashion conscious cars. the mini is the 'aspirational small car'. consequently, it is stepping on VW's upper end cars. for once, someone is saying, i could get this INSTEAD of a jetta, instead of a rabbit. point being is if some people have to slum it and buy a small car they still want something trendy and the mini fills the bill which is why it sells well now. if the economy were more vibrant, more people would buy it for better reasons, handling, design, uniqueness. right now its just an icon in time.
  2. why the altima sells so much is a crime.
  3. myself, i know what you mean about rebooting. work, job, financial, relatives, personal relationships, feeling tired and overwhelmed in so many things. i can only imagine that the ST news was like a big sucker punch in the gut.
  4. its near impossible. a few bright spots like the cts, equinox, g8, camaro....keep one BARELY hanging on.
  5. gm is making it impossible to shop for cars. saab? saab sales were up in sept when they had massive rebates. the next month, they pulled a bunch of the money and sales dived again. they need to get msrp's closer to what they sell for and maybe they wouldn't have 2 attempt to manipulate the market with incentives. they bitch about uaw wages (30 hours per car) but then play with THOUSANDS each month in marketing incentives. No wonder the dealers bitch. they have no idea how to make money or if they can even sell cars. the incentives are greater than the profit they can make selling something. gotta piss ya off. why should car A be 3 grand less incentives in march, than feb. shoppers in feb get a price of 22k, and come back in march, its 25k. the dealer cant move the car because its like 15% more now and so that means they can't make a profit. if they sell it when its cheaper, their margin is less. and leasing went bye bye so there is no way to sell anything there. the car should sell for the same price most of the time. these wild price swings month to month and monthly promotions are dumb. it might work for kohl's lowest prices of the season but for cars it will piss off shoppers. i know i am pretty much done. trouble is, used car shopping is even tougher. this country is overmarketed. we create all this marketing stuff to justify marketing jobs. and even if these promotions and incentives generate traffic, ultimately with cars you still won't part with the cash until the real price meets what you think the car is ultimately worth. gm is really being a pain with their lease return incentives too. a trailblazer shopper can get 4k if they are coming out of a lease. wouldn't someone who is NOT leasing want that 4 grand too?
  6. back when i ate lots more pizza, i love the cheap totinos and red baron and freschetta and digorno. tombstone is good too. then i got hooked on take and bake, papa murphys. then i decided all the pizza was contributing to my size too much. does anyone know of any pizza that is not loaded with salt, fat, starch and other bad things.
  7. they did the same bull$h! from sept to october. they pulled about 3 grand away of incentives. i too noticed the vue already outrageously priced to begin with, they had an 09 four popper on the show floor. 26+ MSRP!!!!!!! holy crap! last month the vue 6 popper had about 6 grand total incentives and the 4 popper was like 5250 incentives. now the vue red line fwd for example starts at 27 grand but most v6 models left or built are xr v6 awd which sticker over 30 grand. basically in short, most vues are north of 26-27 grand msrp so even with huge incentives they are still way more spendy than escapes as an example. so this month they reduced the incentives by like 2-3 grand on those and bam, you cannot touch a vue at all. even the sales guy moaned when i bitched that the price of the car is different every month and it pisses off the customer. he's like 'try selling them like that' or something like that. it even pisses off the sales dudes.
  8. now you're talkin
  9. yup, it jumped here too
  10. saturn made some major mistakes there. first thing would have been to have the sedan, package the options and pricing different, and then add armrest cupholders, bluetooth, and ipod jack. and then maybe they could have added some engine. well, if you don't put the effort into it, you won't get it back out.
  11. same old bull$h! with gm and their incentive game, was at the dealer today. they introduce a loyalty rebate and add gm card top off earnings. however, on the astra as i found out today, the basic incentives were reduced on the car to the tune of about 2000 less. and no dealer discount. basically for a non gm loyalty or gm card customer, now again this month, the out the door price is like 2 grand to 3 grand more for a stale carryover model this month vs last. my patience is almost gone for this saturn price bull$h!. saturn, gm, whatever. i would love to support saturn or any gm division. the vue is WAY overpriced as are the epsilon cars now. as for the astra, it now again appears they don't even want to move them. a 1000 rebate is all that is available to a non gm loyal customer and no dealer discount. is this how you clear inventory on an overpriced and dead model?
  12. curious as to why audi has done so well? A 'cheaper german luxury car'?
  13. informative. i thought everyone wanted a prius?
  14. rabbit and GTI sales are disappointing but maybe the jetta sportwagen bit into them. VW has aggressive leasing still and that helps them move units.
  15. why not, that state practically whored themselves out for it.
  16. x2. most sonata sales were fleet anyways. so this is reality hitting them in the head, finally.
  17. i have seen more of the new vans and patriots. I think chrylser should still survive, but needs to downscale and partner up, I see no fault in a Nissan / Chrylser tie up. problem, nissan wouldn't even want that...LOL
  18. this truly is sort of a tweener then? not as portly as an MKX or Veracruz, not as small as a crawling recreational vehicle?
  19. well they should not hang their entire hat on US consumers. don't they build any cars Japanese want to buy? why can't they build a better car than hyundai?
  20. ssurprised that the element took such a hit.
  21. what is the wheelbase? sigmas all have long wheelbase. this must be around 108 inches for such huge overhangs. that' my official guess. in the FWIW department, my aztek, which is also a GM crossover, i think the wheelbase is around 108 inches and it makes for a nice turning circle and doesn't feel so long like the flex does.
  22. give hyundai credit. they at least are outdoing all the other rice out there with this, except the rx8 and 350z. the rx8 drinks oil and gas and still lacks power. the 350z looks diseased sometimes.
  23. sell it now and buy it back later when no one cares?
  24. good job toyota. can you shoot for 'best decline evah' again next month? one thing to note PEOPLE! subaru was up! VW is doing good. LEASING STILL MATTERS! the time GM and Ford get leasing back is the time their numbers go back too! chastise leasing if you want, but wasn't leasing like 30-35% of domestics business? THIS MIGHT EXPLAIN WHY SALES ARE DOWN AN EQUIVALENT percent.
  25. rdx is a joke by the way. but the press doesn't seem to mind it.
