GM Death Watch 230: How Bob Lutz destroyed GM
regfootball replied to 01Malibu's topic in General Motors
Bob Lutz neglected mainstream models, but at the same time i am sure there was no shortage of proposals that ultimately got sidetracked and delayed by the bean counters. Truth is the all new models that Lutz had a hand in turned out pretty well, Malibu, Lambdas, etc. GM needs an axeing of their product process and get in people who are young, and not GM lifers. Not marketing people, but young people who are design sensitive and passionate about cars in every way. -
GM Death Watch 230: How Bob Lutz destroyed GM
regfootball replied to 01Malibu's topic in General Motors
what kills me about TTAC is their arrogance in their writing and editorials, yet they can't even do their job and create a site that is pleasant to look at. Artistically its one of the ugliest, most amateurish looking sites on the internet, and asswipes like Farago expect this to be a career vehicle and to gain credibility, but I have friends who have blog sites about puppies that look more interesting and professional than their web site. Black market abortion doctors do a cleaner job than TTAC does presenting their web site. If farago and his crew had half a brain and were larger than a pea, he'd invest some time and money into making the site look profession and credible instead of the pile of crap that it is. As heinous as Edmunds articles are, and as difficult a site as it is to navigate, I'll give it credit for looking organized and graphically nice. I bet Farago is one of those guys you just want to punch on site, when you see him, without even knowing its him whose site is a bigger hack job than the CHinese auto industry. -

300, Grand Cherokee, Durango and Charger images leaked
regfootball replied to Intrepidation's topic in Chrysler
love what they did to the charger! they got rid of the ugly ass hump on the rear quarter! looks nicer, almost athletic! the 300, not at all. the interiors that are new look deritive and korean. no imagination whatsoever. guess an 08 or 09 would be the 300 that i would want then.....since they killed magnum. 3 chances to do the interior right on this car and they failed all three times. any word on a competent v6 ( which is what this car needs, a 300hp DI v6 and AWD 6 speed tranny). I see they got rid of the moronic steering wheel too! yeay! -
GM reveals production Cadillac CTS Coupe in Viability Plan
regfootball replied to Intrepidation's topic in Cadillac
THANK YOU! i have wondered that myself, over and over. By the way the photo that dodgefan posted is the best! Call me old but i really think the car would benefit from a shorter greenhouse, longer deck, and lower hood. i would love to see someone photochop dodgefans posted pic, with a less hatchbacky deck and a smaller greenhouse and lower 90's style hood. the g8 has a low hood and a longer deck and it looks quite dashing. one thing about the long greenhouse though....the cts wagon, sedan, and coupe all have very similar side glass cuts (divided up differently for doors etc). the car in any config is recognizable as 'CTS'.....so i suppose any way you meat slice it, the car is instantly recognizable as a CTS from seeing the c pillar cut on the side glass. -
nice car! hope this means your honda love dies now!

WHEN i was working LOL we had LaWMAN- one of the bosses BURRITO- the name did not stick because he didn't like it but he would eat at chipotle A LOT and some code names for the ladees in the office we would use on email so as not to draw much attention to actual names to IT and HR. all complimentary of course.

we'll all be lucky if cars larger than the current malibu survive these next 4 years of socialism and economic disaster. -

no reason for lincoln to have its own platforms. the ford platforms are already AWD. The only reason to do a new platform would be the MKR and that i think was nixed. any rear bias platform that ford undertakes will have to be for a future mustang, and that is not happnn anytime in the next 5 years. globally ford has nixed the notion of new rwd bias platforms since they simply are not needed. -

cabin 'volume' likely shrunk due to the lower and more constricted greenhouse. however, the key numbers of width and leg room should not change, especially since the wheelbase was lengthened. the 08/09 had high seats, even if they drop them a tish it should not matter much. i don't expect to see much difference.......the accord is a nice size car now BTW finally but does not feel near as solid and substantial as the ford products do. honda still builds tin cans. -
that is an audi font.

i am saying the SHO will outrun the CTS4, and do it for a lot less money, and will have a feature level that is very close to the CTS....wait the CTS does or does not have 350hp, paddle shifters, cooled seats, voice activated music selection, sirius travel link, blis, and adaptive cruise?. more car, less money, you will be surprised........

European strategy seemed sound -- but Saturn sank
regfootball replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Heritage Marques
the only chance buick has of marketing the astra is the sedan. pontiac should get the astra IMHO. kill the vibe and g5. go astra, g6 (grand am), and g8 (grand prix). -

the malibu and aura are the 98% the same fking car. drive them. actually i prefer the aura 51/49 myself. the notion of the aura and malibu being so vastly different is nothing but pure hogwash. even the seat freaking fabric is the same. dear lord, you buy the hype. the main substantive difference is the dashboard and some other interior trim. I think the aura's suspension might be tuned a little differently as well. the malibu might be a tish quieter. there is not enough difference to make the malibu the better car. its simply a styling decision. -

maybe canadians are stupid, and the accord and aurora were in different segments anyways. the 2nd gen auroras around here went for good money. -
Lutz: Despite good cars, Saturn probably dies ...
regfootball replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Heritage Marques
not all dealers are bpg yet. so that is one reason pontiac stays. saturn is easy to kill. fewer dealers to buy out and an easier entity to sell off. saturn still outsells bpg i believe, if not its darn close. i think bpg combined is like 375 units / month. pontiac of course leads, followed by gmc and then buick. gmc is the only one that might profit. pontiac and saturn would have equal profits and buick only makes profit because of enclave. really saturn lost out because they are easier to separate and buy out. only reason. so gm will make buick a core brand, and give them all the resources, but each dealer sells 51 buicks per month and saturn sells about 9 times that per dealer with the 'opel product'. so i am not sure how killing pontiac and trying to market the snot out of an old man's brand like buick will recover all those sales. at least don't kill pontiac!!!!!!!!! gmc is being kept because its the moneymaker that will prop up buick while they scramble to figure out how to market the figgin thing. maybe saturn will be sold to GME change the name to Opel and we'll get the real goods here. -

regarding rwd, it's simply a market choice. if ford made their volume sellers rwd, they would not sell. mass market wants fwd. its damn simple as that. -
Lutz: Despite good cars, Saturn probably dies ...
regfootball replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Heritage Marques
saturn is the easiest to kill but saturn sells more cars per dealer than any other GM brand. something like 470 saturns per dealer whereas buick only sells 51 buicks per dealer........ -
sometimes, we even get MAD COWS!!!! i hope this is another example of people starting to read between the lines and see the $h! that these GW dickheads are spewing. you can't take away an American's burger.

Los Angeles Times: GM's past and present collide in sibling rivalry
regfootball replied to wildcat's topic in General Motors
no, all those cars are a usable size now finally. the malibu needs to be sized to match them, and the new impala must be taurus or chrysler 300 sized. in case you disagree, note that the altima and accord do fine with their four pots for acceleration and mileage, all while being low weight and giving maximum space to the consumer. its the class of cars below this, (civic, cobalt) that need to grow in size (sentra sized or elantra sized) and fill that gap below. in a class of car where you spend 25k plus, you should not be lacking for space. the impala simply is this size by default. the previous malibu was smaller than it, and the impala is a w body, which basically defines it size. the malibu does not fulfill the needs of a person who wants a sedan with the feel of a spacious car. its not quite wide enough, and overall cabin airiness is lacking with the low roof and tough visibility. These are the reasons the Impala sells, along with incentives. Personally i don't think this is a problem. Who would buy a 30k chevy sedan anyways? Better right now when the economy is tight to have a cheaper model that can actually move units. of course the taurus will really expose how behind the impala is now. The current Impalas main problem is a cheap as $h! interior and bad powertrain choices and suspensions. If they simply remade the interior and put the 3.6/6 speed in it (they've already done this for the LaCrosse), they would have more cred. the exterior shape of the impala is fine! just fix the other stuff! by the way i am so tired of the 'gm's are rentals' $h!. hyundai is the rental king and hello, i drove by the hertz the other day. what 3 cars did they have parked by the door? new camry, accord, and mazda6. Japanese fleet cars. Hello people, get a clue. Its not just GM. Yes Honda, fleeting the accord. we already know the camry is a fleet queen. -

no, glue a buick badge on it and call it a 'rendez-vue' its just a commodity car, i don't think it will lose any more or less value than any other GM model. Auroras held their value extremely well after Olds folded.
