    I saw...

the last burb i lived in prior to here, was the same town where Prince has his mansion and studio. one really cold night i decided to return a video to the hollywood video at 11:55 to beat the midnight deadline. no one was in the store except outside was a couple cars in an entourage and bodyguards by the car and inside. the purple one was walking around aloof looking for videos to rent (don't look at him!) and his GF at the time was asking about certain types of rental. He really is a small dude! i have a picture of me and Geoff Downes from Asia (heat of the moment) and the buggles (video killed the radio star). not sure why, but i have seen John Randle (ex-viking) three separate times here. once in cub foods, once at the wells fargo bank, and once he was signing autographs at the chrysler ride and drive i went to a couple years ago. I saw legendary coach Bud Grant at the same Cub foods twice. i one time was at a bar downtown a yr or two ago when ex viking legend HOF carl eller was there but truth is he liked to go to bars a lot. in fact, he is doing some time in the clink right now for an incident related to getting pulled over and driving. the chicks really dig old athletes too. man-o. concerts of course i love to get close, like first row if i can but notably about maybe 7 yrs ago now journey played a club gig here in mpls (neals new wife was MNtan) a small venue gig and me and my buddy were like 10 feet from the band the whole gig in this intimate setting. one time 38 special played a gig where i was going to school back when they had no popularity so they literally only sold about 50-100 tickets to the show so it was like 2 feet from eveyrone. you could go pee, or get a new beer, and not lose your place because there was maybe only 2 people behind you. also too, before the donnas had their bigger hits they did a club gig here (when they were all barely 20 or 21 yet i think) in a small room where you were like maybe 10 feet from them. aside from that lots of concerts where you get reasonably close. I just don't remember much memorable about those. no movie stars though that i can think of. cheryl tiegs is actually one of my wife's relatives. more specifically i think she is my father in laws cousin or something. the theater my wife worked at in admin, at the time was when actress Amy Adams was there doing shows, i never saw her close (sometimes we would drink in the bar after the shows where the actors would drink too) but saw a cpl shows she was in and she literally stole the show which was hard because there was so many talented actors there. i remember thinking, holy shit this chick is good and holy crap she is hot. Next i know like 2 years later she is in movies and now she is like big star. She is so talented though, deserves every bit of success she has coming.
  3. LOL...i forgot about the RELAY!!!!! OMG that hastened the death spiral.
  4. good point. that was a half hearted effort that missed the mark.
  5. zactly.
  6. edmunds tmv's are wrong (often are). min you can get off cobalts right now is about 3k since the rebates out there are about 2500 right now i believe but i will check that. sometimes the ss does not get the reg models rebates but when i last checked it applied to ss also. and i would be shocked to find any base coopers out there. edmunds never has the saturn tmvs close to right. regional incentives vary. the astras i look at the other day were both 3500 off sticker which is consistent all around the last few months.

i'm jiggy with it as an omni. if it helps retain dodge as an entity. its better than whatever else they have to offer there right now.
  9. you just don't get that people with kids buy 4 door sedans. man you are a freaking tool. who's foolish enough to pay list.
  10. http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?se...article_id=7107 road and track, the most credible mag, of course calls cobalt the king of the subcompacts.
  11. basically every review says the cobalt is the best performing and driving small compact. in numbers, or judgments in the press. the only thing it gets knocked for the interior, which by the way, the seats are fine, the shifter is fine. its the dash and plastic. and that's fine, but it again only underscores that its more about people being obsessed with the fashion statement that they drive. Everyone tries to come off as cool and hip and we get that the cobalt is not fashion conscious. at the same time, it is not bad. The cobalt SS is a good looking car. Its not girl cute like the mini is all. or video game / rice cute like the civic, lancer or subaru. but with the cobalt SS, not only are you getting the best performing small car of any of them, you also are getting probably the best value. 22 and change for a cobalt SS with a sunroof and LSD. Even less if you have a lease return or GM card. More than enough left for a custom stereo or custom leather if you want. i don't think that the mini at 22k will lap the nurburgring in record times like that although you might get some cute interior upgrades at that price. i would buy a cobalt before a mini because the mini has no functional aspect to it. can't haul much and certainly its a pain if you have kids. of course, there is about 12 other cars i would buy over the mini in that class for the same reason. and quite honestly, i just simply am sick of the cute and corny look.
  12. LOL, when we did these at my job 6, 7 years ago, i was an INFP.....LOL
  13. 2010 G8 v6 gets direct injection and i believe also 6 speed. it will be all you need then.
  14. car and driver didn't think so. and honestly that SS cobalt is also a few grand off sticker right now too. it depends if you want to blow money on a toy car. fun to drive, sure, but really its go kart handling is its only thing. the interior in the mini is unique, but not nice enough to ask 30k. at least get a volvo c30 if you're gonna blow money like that. something with a hint of luxury to it. so not only can the cobalt out perform the mini for thousands less, in regular trim levels, the cobalt is a better car for the money than the yaris. the mini is a fashion accessory. if it weren't a BMW product, i bet half of the mini buyers wouldn't buy em. its simply like those who buy calvin klein t shirts or whatever. can't swing the 80 dollar sweatshirt, but need to have the logo, and the t shirt is the cheapest way to get it.
  15. I will go with Ion. Vue had built some momentum for Saturn as a more than one model car. I think the Ion destroyed whatever GM had because it was so needed for the Ion to be a homerun and it was a big let down in a huge way. Then the Aura as good as it was could not overcome the damage Ion did to the brand.
  16. the only thing i can think of why zeta is being ditched.....weight vs comparable fwd future GM platforms with them being so scared of future cafe. every 100 pounds of vehicle weight would matter. my question is, why not just find a way to make zeta cars lighter? stop using the cheap steel. for one. that and GMNA being provincial and territorial about it not being developed a lot here.
  17. call me chauvenist. point one. do women (as a whole, not saying their are not hot rod gals out there) GET performance cars like guys do? if so, why is a woman in charge of pontiac? or at least, speaking on its behalf. point two. oddly enough, the men must be women haters if Saturn and Pontiac are going down. Since both were kinda in charge by women?
  18. well, GM is forced to do a lot of silly things these days now that they are the governments beeoch. and its not just one ralph nader on their ass this time. it's like a hundred thousand of them.
  19. its does when you are a manufacturer if most of the sales volume is 2 wheel drive only, and you need to sell that vehicle in many states consistently. i am not disputing that a top lvel caddy should be rwd. I am saying that GM is probably so strapped with development cash, that they have to put all their eggs in one platform basket. The bigger sin to me, is why not spend a little and market some AWD zetas or more AWD sigmas? then EVERYONE CAN BE HAPPY.
  20. he has to because his performance tires are summer tires only. are they all season tires? again, we prove the reason why all season tires are so popular. YOU DONT HAVE TO FUTZ WITH CHANGING THEM. i like the summer only / winter only idea, but the other 99 percent don't want to deal with it. my guess is he had no clue his performance tires were crap in winter. or he didnt care and then found them one day to be really slippery.
  21. you just pieced together any amount of money you could for the down payment on the car. the tax alone was probably 1500. you signed up to pay for the thing for 5 or 6 years. you honestly think someone is going to embrace 5-800 bucks for 4 snow tires and wheels (or blow money each fall and spring to swap tires on the original rims, which by the way is really stupid).
  22. (me standing and applauding your winter droving prowess).....sarcasm listen, i've driven in whiteout freaking blizzards on flat barren ND interstates in nut chilling and dangerous cold and blizzards on closed roads in my RWD buicks and chevys many times. you know what, it don't mean squat as far as the car buying public. you still ignore what the buyer wants when they are in the showroom. you are still sitting there saying 'this is what the buy should be happy with' instead of 'we will sell them what they want to buy'
  23. why would they want the hassle of buying snow tires and wheels and doing the changeover every year and spending the money and time to do that? I've done that with my thunderbird. its a pain doing that each fall and spring and then having to find room in your garage to store it. if you have the money and time and space its great, but even then you might as well get AWD and snow tires then, its an even much better solution. not sure what the actual amount was. we had some nice warm rain in the morning and fresh wet snow to glaze over it. it was likely 8-12 inches of fresh snow, with some of the parts of the roads and parking lots had well over a foot once it got pushed around a bit. allthough the asshole on the city plow left about two feet at the end of my driveway. in other words, nothing that would faze an SUV or crossover, which is why they became so popular in the first place.
  24. fun watching the news about the teeny snow dropping in atlanta or wherever the other day.......boo hoo, talk about people making it look easy to drive in snow, the video had a tow truck pulling a mustang out of the ditch because it wiped out. that rwd driver was soooooo skilled.........
