Cadillac is a big tease on their New Small Car - ATS teaser shot
regfootball replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
Like most cars partial photoas are not always smart to pass final judgment on. It always best to see them in person as they take on a whole different look in 3D. The CTS coupe looks odd in photos but in person it pops. cts coupe always looks drop dead gorgeous to me in person when i see one. saw a white one the other day, i was just oogling for a long time. my only CTS coupe complaint is how fat the proportioning of the lower body is......hard to fix without dropping the bottom of the glazing or picking up the bottom of the body a couple inches....... -
love love love diamond white. no one can fault anyone for liking the STS......as long as you say, the admittance of some datedness and cheapness inside....... the 300 is such a huge beast.....and the STS does not have the stigma that the 300 has.......

V8'S HAVE BECOME the kiss of death in car buying transactions these days....most of my shoppers in fact are even dictating 4 cylinder as an absolute.......even when you should them the epa ratings on two vehicles, one with a 6 and one with a four, and their epa is like 1 mpg apart, or the 6 might have better numbers, most folks are still hung on the notion of 4 cylinder is better mpg real time. gas has become the biggest operating cost of a vehicle so that is why everyone wants 4 poppers now. a 6 in trucks is like 4 in cars now. as longas the 6 can muster the pulling............... It is simple, people are paying a extra cost over the V8 for the Turbo V6 in the Ford. As of right now the V6 has taken over 50% of the Ford F150 market. The power is more than enough in the V6. Note too the V6 just gets a little more MPG but people want and are willing to pay for it. For GM not to offer a better V6 would be leaving a lot of buyers going to Ford to get what they want. The time is coming where most 1/2 ton trucks will be V6 and to get a V8 it will be offered in only higher end trucks or heavier chassis. The V8 will not go away but it will be limited and more expensive. Yes sir, thats also because V6s are putting down over 300hp. and that is 90hp more than my dad's 1995 GMC with a 350 V8 That was my thoughts too. I can remember 180 HP V8 used to be enough for most people to do just what they are doing now. I can remember the big deal on the 1990 454 SS pickup when they came out with 230 HP and 385 FT-LBS if torque. Today my 2.0 betters the HP by 60 HP and just falls 70 FT LBS short on the torque. I too think today people like new things and the turbo V6 engines and advanced engined have captured the customers imaginations. These are not the boat anchor 4.3 or inline 250 engines of the past. I think the new technology and marketing has really sold these engines at Ford and they have taken what was once a base engine and made it one in demand that is also making money. It will be interesting to see in the future if and when we get the new Colorado. Also is Ford going to offer the new ranger here as a F100 like truck at some point to help on MPG? I suspect there are going to be a lot of changes with this segment. It is too profitable and too competitive to ignore. people at my ford stores have said the F100 is on the way......it's just been well concealed..... my guess is the F100 gets a four, a turbo four, a six and prob not a turbo 6.....

Reno is a bludgeon on thy Wasooki honor........don't swear with those Daewoos........ New Rio is nice. More stylish than the Forte. Just a little off topic....I wonder what kind of mpg a 2.0 ecoboost edge with a 6 speed manual would get.....

had my first op. today to sit in the cabin of a focus for an extended period of time. was at the sister store writing paper and had some lag time.....i am sold on the focus..... rear seat is tight, like the cruze. sort of a draw except for me a little easier getting out. doesn't matter, in this segment not a lot of passengers. The focus interior is VERY intimate, but well done. I think the cruze is well done too, but maybe just a bit short. it still BUGS ME that the focus only has a 5 speed manual, and from what i am told by my brothers, that new dual clutch ford is not all peaches and cream yet. the manual is the one to get so far. i was borderline sedan vs. hatch on the focus but now seeing the useful trunk on the focus i think the hatch is alright. overall the car feels confining. but i think perhaps its not a deal breaker. I need to drive one....

Cadillac is a big tease on their New Small Car - ATS teaser shot
regfootball replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
i really think a lot of what folks have said here is spot on. i had the chance to see this photo a couple days ago and its interesting that so many comments are the same as mine. My first take was Mercedes, Cadillac version......to some degree I am disappointed because this is really too safe of a design. At the same time it does hit the basics of the rear drive lux car as far as proportion, etc. I think for that reason, it should play well over seas.....better than any other Caddy, and it will still fit in at the hot spots here with all the other KRAUT in the parking lot. As a whole, between the XTS and ATS I don't see a rush to overstyle. It just seems to me Caddy has taken on a blandness lately. THat said, Caddy is starved of product, i at least think if Caddy is trying to rejuvenate with 2 new models only, the XTS and ATS are dead spot on for two segments they need to make inroads or reclaim, the old DTS customers and to cut more into the 3 series / C class crowd. If you really look at it, there still is not a lot of competition for the 3 series and C Class. The A4 does ok, but still is not --perceived--- as a classical rear drive car. Even the first CTS was larger than a 3 and did not quite have the exact same large hood, laid back rear type of style. The ATS design, while a tad bland at least puts out a signature look that is instantly equated to something -the likes- of a 3 series. I will assume Caddy is going to do fine with the ATS and XTS, maybe not gangbusters....SRX does well. It will be interesting to see where the CTS goes or to see if Caddy chases the 7 series and S class. Caddy still needs to revive an XLR type car. Personally I think the Cien was something Caddy should have done. Cien really would have done bangup for Caddy's image although maybe now moreso than back when the concept came out. I sort of see the CIen as an R8 competitor. I am guessing the CTS wagon is probably not going to survive.....get one while you can...... Caddy needs a credible (aka non bling, non escalade) third row vehicle. something to take on the Q7's etc.... -
Honda Civic No Longer Recommended by Consumer Reports
regfootball replied to Cory Wolfe's topic in Honda
i had one guy who showed up at the dlrship with a plastic binder full of CR printed data sheets........ or people who have absolutely crossed off vehicles ONLY because they did not make the CR recommended..... and people criticize for following religion.....isn't CR a religion to some...? -
what's crazier........a new 9-5, yes NEW 9-5, already advertised at 10k off sticker........30k....i need to see if that's a demo..... actually, a new avenger heat as you mention is worth a look in a huge way.....that car will still get nice mpg and probably scoot....
-
yes.... and no......... the cruze is a fun car. the passat has a little bit of luxury going for it, but not as much sport. i consider this an odd but interesting comparison, considering how close the MSRP is.... the big diff is in fuel economy although i would not be surprised if the Cruze has slightly higher insurance costs....
-
I am not sure if i would prefer a cruze Eco manual or a new 012 Passat S manual........ hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm weigh in folks, this is a tough one....... (disclaimer: believe me there is no purchase imminent)........(I would probably be looking lease anyways)

4-Cylinders Becoming The Dominant Choice
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
I suspect this will be the base engine in the F150 eventually. or F-100........ -
it's got length, it's got girth. easy to feel excited about it......

i noticed the steering wheel offset, lack of plush in the seat, and also and the lack of solid door thunk. But yeah, compared to an Altima or even the Maxima and so many other cars, the Passat is definitely more appealing in many ways. VW may actually meet their lofty goals......

Escape is solid. I am actually concerned that the forthcoming new body style will kill sales. Congrats on the Escape......!

yeah but the legacy is a snooze to drive, is geriatric in comparison, if you actually want to enjoy the car, the legacy is not the choice between the two. go drive em and check back. spending money wisely is a virtue, but also spending money on something you are not happy with or does not suit your wants and needs is also a bigger sin.
