Opel/Vauxhall News: Why Hello Opel/Vauxhall Astra OPC/VXR
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
i think the Regal GS will do well and I expect any Verano GS and Buick Astra coupe GSX to do well. BUICK NEEDS THIS 3 DOOR!!!!!! for no other reason than to draw younger buyers. entry for the future of the brand. -
well, the garden variety subies are unappealing but the WRX's and such are much more interesting.

too much girth? lol

not a subaru boxer fan at all. Never like the sound, don't like how growly they are. not liking the engines compared to a nice in line..... the lower CofG is a nice idea. if a boxer was really the best way, everyone would make it that way. Yeah, too bad its not domestic or GM. The folks here are bitching about a GM RWD coupe, small, medium or large, at something less than 30K that is more practical than the Camaro. Only good thing is that since GM now blindly follows Toyota's lead, this move might force them to develop light RWD coupe. I doubt it, though. Whats wrong with the flat four now? Lower center of gravity. Porsche guys love boxers. I can't believe after all the fast and furious Subarus to come out, that the flat four is suddenly a liability. fortunately we are in a new era where GM understands they don't have to build something for every stinking niche. if GM built a competitor to this, then we would probably not enough to go around to make Camaros. The more I look at these photos, the more I think Toyota of all people may have an unexpected surprise hit on their hands. This is the type of car i would expect more out of Nissan. Except Nissan is stinking up the joint with all its turds. Honda is the supreme turd pincher these days. Honda fans can only wish that the big H put out something slightly entertaining these days.

looks alright, hopefully the folks bitching for a light rwd coupe will be quiet now. 2700 lbs and rear drive. here it is. my guess being toyota the interior will be bizarre and cheap. but really, this kinda seems like a new age nissan 240sx or something. much nicer to look at than that Genesis coupe. too bad its a flat four.

such a hot looking car....

I'd far rather have a loaded Regal turbo 4 for the same price. Ok? basically repeating how fours and sixes have made 8's obsolete....something like the GXP Bonne would have no point to it these days....

Ford rollwed out the Ecoboost in cars with MSRP's that allowed to bear the cost of it. Then, they rolled it out across multiple models, so they only needed a small volume in each model to begin to amortize that program. But yeah, Lincoln didn't really trumpet the whole thing very much. I really am of the opinion that Lincoln should go away, unless they really get focused and get their sht together.

speaking of doing difficult things. we had a conversation at work about (what i consider the stupidity) of Ford and the way they ran the door under the bottom on the Flex. Not only is it an expensive bitch, it also is prone to high repair costs and damage from debris as well as when you open the door. In this case, they claimed it was for design, and they pulled it off, and it was not cheap, but it was just flat out stupid. It could have a more normal, easier, less expensive layout that would have been just as attractive design wise. Imagine being the pissed off Flex owner who scraped up the bottom of his door on some rocks or a tall curb.
-
the whole inquiry on it is moot. any large automaker should have the skills and capability to perform it reasonably well on demand without fuss if the design warrants it. if it increases assembly cost i can see why it matters. but if its required to do it for the product, then there's no excuse to not do it well.

After checking out the LCD on one of the new F150's I had to move on the lot yesterday, I am convinced they will be able to make a stunning impression with it. Only thing will be needle response time. It's crisp and bright and clear. Daytime may be an issue. (note: the part i saw was the multi display between the gauges)

September 2011 Sales: Volkswagen Group
regfootball replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in 2011 Sales Archive
the new Beetle is a real improvement and the way VW has positioned it really was the only way it could carry on in the US at least. Mini, i think they need to be careful. it's gotten tired....and now they proliferate the species with a bunch of half baked derivitives. -
2011 Buick Regal CXL and CXL TURBO (UPDATED WITH TURBO MANUAL)
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
car smell is usually the offgassing of all the chemicals and such, sometimes the leather too. the specified materials and processes in euro factories could be different. There's not any real apparent giveaways visually that the Regal has been compromised. -
Regal and LaCrosse info too?

2011 Buick Regal CXL and CXL TURBO (UPDATED WITH TURBO MANUAL)
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
I spent a buttload of time in some 012 Regals today. First off, not anything seemingly has been lost in translation between the factory change. There have been a lot of interior changes, but that is functional. The seats feel the same. Surface qualities are more or less the same. The only thing missing is some Opel smell. The Astras and german Regals had that pungent German smell I loved. It's missing a bit here. The new radio interface is fantastic. The USB ports and other ports have been moved to a more convenient spot. I can't say enough about how cool it is. Using the knob on the console is way cool for convenience. Push button start is added. I sat in what would be my ideal non GS. The diamond white with tan interior, 19" 9 spokes, moonroof. OMG I almost had to be by myself. All it needed was a manual trans. This is the best GM car out there. I had sat in a new 9-5 earlier. It's amazing how cheap inside the Saab is in comparison. A Regal turbo 6sp man or GS man is at the very top of my wish list. Want the car so bad I can barely stand it. -
there is bound to be some nice base base 011 regals you can get for a screaming deal for about what a 12/13 verano will go for similarly equipped

but the v6 outpowers the northstar by quite a fai-r- amount

Cheers or Jeers: 1981 Pontiac Phoenix LJ Hatchback

not enough cladding on this one!!!!!! -
what is huge.... ushering in the era of the really long greenhouse...... the 98 intrepid in retrospect was a very extreme car, i am amazed at how successful it was and how stunningly futuristic it was blending the three boxes. the greenhouse morphed into the trunk and hood. i think the XTS returns a trend in that direction, but at the same time as balthy suggested, it has a prominent trunk, the hood is short still though. the 04 maxima to me was a bellmark, maybe even if it was an evolution of the 03 altima. irregardless.....the maxima to me ushed in the short rear deck look big time. the XTS to me has a glide to it a lot of the 2000's cars don't have.. still it has some length to it one would associate with a cadillac.

this is one of those rare cars to me that pulls off having extreme length and a short nose. originally i thought when i saw the first pics that they mailed it in, then i saw those walkaround videos and i realized when seeing it in 3d how good of a job GM design did moving a car this size ahead futuristically with the short nose and getting it look balanced. I would love to drive this car with such a dramatic proportion shift.
