  1. i do understand a lot of black knights concerns. I see that a little as well. But overall, just that we get something new is a big deal. And overall with what really is not IMO a big architecture change, to get something that evolves the look as much as it does is welcome. At the same time, it doesn't really try to be more refined. It's another interpretation of brash GM design. I do like it, especially the rear taper and new green house. I even like the rear taillights. It's the same old corvette proportions I am kind of getting tired of. I would not have minded the whole windshield being pulled forward a few inches and such..... A lot of the sculpting is extreme and that's ok. That will look old fast to those who like things more sleek. Interior for certain is improved and I see the merit of the wraparound design for a racing car.....especially when so many exotics have wraparound dash. I still think that the wraparound theme is so freakin 90's though. We should be glad this car still exists, that they put as much effort into as they did, and that it is so kick ass. A reasonably fresh version of the same old same old. I wouldn't say it's really timeless, I think the shelf life will be not as long as they hope. It's not going to set the market on its ear. But it's going to continue to keep it's place for the time being. Hopefully the interior improvements gain merit to what it for certain going to be an unbelievable performance ride.
  2. definitely looks a class or two above the Escape.
  3. separate stalks and the cruise control on the steering wheel is what i prefer.....never have liked the multifunction stalk.
  4. I see honda's urban SUV is about to hit detroit, that's another market segment that GM will fall behind in. The Encore is a pioneer but the problem is its a Buick not a Chevy.
  5. interior is bang up but I am reserving judgement on pushbutton trannies.
  6. An Impala diesel priced the same as the Passat and marketed head to head against it would make a great in your face to the VW bunch. It's not like they won't have the diesel for Europe anyways. Impala won't be priced at 45k in any shape or form if GM knows what is good for them. If they do, it will still only sell for so much...... and it won't fetch more than the LaCrosse. You can make the case that GM wastes all sorts of resources to build 'sports models' of some cars like an SS cobalt that sold for big bucks more and sold in very few numbers. So much for that. MPG, 2008+ is the new 'sports model', if GM is going to try to market to niches, performance is dead, they would get more mileage marketing to take direct hits on competitors market segments. Why a Cruze diesel? Why not the Verano instead? Oldsmobile alone sold over 125,000 diesels in 1980. If any US maker can push diesels, it's GM. Memo to GM, make it reliable, don't f*ck it up.......
  7. like it, and best of all, IT WOULD SELL....LINCOLN NEEDS A SELLER. Might kill some MKX sales, but oh well.
  8. really wouldn't have been an issue if they wouldn't have built unreliable crap diesels in the first place. Yet, the euro makes and such built diesels that could purr reliably for 300-400k miles. There is no reason why with other makers testing the diesel waters again, and considering how GM is 'going global' now, that they can't find 3 or 4 cars in their stable here to sell about 50k diesels in the states every year, to the not everyone crowd. VW's plan is to become number one. One way they are accomplishing this is by selling 30k passat diesels a year. this is also in a way my reasoning with why the Impala should be offered as a diesel compared to the Malibu. Easier to bury the cost of the diesel with the extra kit.
  9. better than the previous spy photos suggested and better than the turd versa sedan. Also, better than the Fit in terms of looks. AH BUT is it as fun as a Sonic?
  10. like the front, the rear is a bit much, but i gotta wait to see the WHOLE ENCHILADA
  11. impalas have no chance of selling for 42k. Sticker on a new LTZ will be 40 possibly but no way will Impalas sell to chevy folk for 40k. The incentive and discount machine will kick in and the loaded impalas should settle in at max 35 geezels. There is no reason an Impala LT1 with a 4 cylinder diesel couldn't stay under the 30 mark OTD with a typical dealer discount. That would be a lot better proposition than a 28k Malibu diesel. The reason your buddy thinks the Passat diesel runs better than the gas version is because the Passat 2.5 5 cylinder engine is JUNK JUNK JUNK. Runs like $h!.
  12. this should go over big for those on this site that love 4 door coupes!
  13. The reality is if anyone is worried about MPG they are not looking to the Impala anyways they are looking to the Cruze of Malibu. I do not believe there would be as much interest in a diesel Malibu if the cruze gets it, compared to the Impala. Plus, the Impala can bury the cost increase more in it's already higher price. People are not attracted to the Malibu right now the way it is. The Impala will be a magnet. I think a diesel Impala would generate tons of market buzz. Impala is closer in interior size to the Passat than the Malibu. Malibu should have a real hybrid powertrain like Fusion and Camry before it would get a diesel. That segment requires a hybrid, a real hybrid practically. If we guess that Impala can sell at least 200,000 units for the 14 version a year, i see no reason that they couldn't move at least 10,000 of them as diesel.
  14. ILX is not a TSX likely because the TSX chassis was too expensive, they wanted to cheapen it. I am slightly flabberghasted still at Honda's lack of turbo offings in the market. They dumped it on the RDX. Which for that was fine. But the ILX should have a turbo mill, i think. It's sorta expected in the lux market. BUT zOMG I BET IT HAS VTEC!!!!! Honda wanted the 2.0 as typical to keep mpg up and distance it from the TSX, which is not a heckuva lot larger. Honda, how about return to this for Acura. Integra Vigor Legend
  15. the Impala would be aside from the Cruze the best GM car candidate for a diesel. NEW ENGINE!!!!! i would make essentially a 2.0 four or larger. turbo. I'm super thanks for asking MPG! I am not worried about the added heft so much. If the mpg got within 2-3 of the Passat, the Impala's sturdiness and nicer kit would be worth it. I really do think GM could move lots of diesel Impalas if they dunnit correctly. Maybe a cummins diesel four?!?!?!?!?!
  16. blah. "find new roads" punt. it's sort of ok, it won't cause a rise in sales. however the part about it also being an internal call is interesting. from that perspective, it's a decent idea.
  17. bring it! Not the cruze! Diesel Impala would sell like hotcakes! OK, still have the Cruze too. Diesel Impala, how about a nice diesel 4 to outgun the passat?
  18. i much prefer to still buy the CD because mp3 downloads are usually crappy quality. The CD you can encode in a choice of many formats and fidelity. Just a preference....but i used to manage a CD department long time ago back when CD was king. I love the Ipods and bluetooth streaming and all that stuff too. CD's are tough to handle in the car compared to other forms now but I like the choice of throwing a disc in the dash too. You can still tell when there is a CD playing instead of just a music file.
  19. nice review. my dad wants this car. too bad diesel is so pricey!
  20. i do think some of that extra weight is why the malibu is a better road car. the packaging of the malibu is one of its biggest problems. i like CVT's but to be honest, cvt's are not the general's style. I think a 1.6t and 8 speed auto would likely within one or two mpg of the altima.
  21. would a full sizer be better overall and the same on gas mostly?
  22. my hometown which was around 300-500 population over the last 30 years or whatever has always had a chevy business. they do bangup business selling trucks and impalas. even with the big town dealer 20 miles away. i would not be surprised if they move at least a couple hundred trucks a year. I would never expect them to sell a Volt. They just knocked down the showroom that had been there for decades and are building a new one. They have another indoor showroom across the street. And 3 lots with cars. The type of dealer Chevy can have, but Honda or Nissan or Toyota would never have.
  23. most dealerships make their living off news but justify themselves as relevant by their new car lines. the new cars create traffic and a reason to be. the used pays the bills.
