  1. 2.5 4 popper with it's larger cylinders will be a little more of shaker than a 1.6 although with a 4 cylinder either way they would probably want to balance it. read something recently that suggested 500cc size for cylinder is maximum optimal for a 4 popper when considering all design factors, that is why BMW is doing 1.5 3's, 2.0 4's, 3.0 6's.....most efficient and smooth when combustion chamber is kept to 500cc and under. i've driven the 2.5 and like it. the 1.4t is great also. Just glad GM can do a 4 cylinder well, even the 2.4 misses the beat for me in some ways. the 2.0t's in the Regal, Cobalt SS and HHR SS i have driven all very very good.
  2. I actually think the XTS could stand to be larger inside, for those DTS lovers.....lacking some girth...........and it's a tad claustrophobic for those old timers.
  3. To me, 150 lb ft of torque even in what is meant to be a high revver......is sort of not at all sporty....no matter how it drives.
  4. The Sorento is a little larger inside, plus for some the third row. It has more girth inside and more trunk than the Equinox. I wouldn't pay 36k for an Equinox either. IMO anything more than 33k for just about any Equinox or Escape for that matter is treason. I'd probably get a basic explorer or traverse for this much coin. Kia is sort of a friendly brand. Those who want a Toyota but can't afford what Toyota is offering would see Kia as Asia lite. Even the four popper Sorentos get bad mileage.........Kia is not good on real world mpg......
  5. VOTED +1 on that! CX 5 is nifty! Not quick enough though really. The stick drives nice. Let me just say this. In my time in purgatory hell (selling Suzukis) what I found was that there was a significant portion of the population that wants a small small sized crossover the likes of the SX4, Juke, Outlander Sport, Impreza, (Trax) encore etc. and does not want to be at the next size level (RAV, Escape, Rogue CRV, Sportage etc.).----sx4 failed in not being up to date and missing with not so good fuel economy numbers. But the people looking exactly for a small AWD getabout with GGM and cheap price is a HUGE unsatisfied segment. Key being small and cheap. Think VIBE or smaller. And there are folks that want to be at the Edge, size wise. Larger and more buxom. with still only two rows. Right now to me, the Equinox is a little bit of a tweener (not that it is space efficient mind you). But it is larger and heavier than a CRV even if its not more useful. It is not as large as an Edge which is where Chevy has a gap (nothing for those who think the traverse is too big and don't need the third row vs. those who think the Equinox is too small). When I hear that the Equinox is getting smaller and less heavy I like the idea of it, but it can't lose much for interior space. More importantly is right now it feels luxurious and substantial in comparison to some of the others in the segment. It cannot and should in no way try to go down so far that it is smaller than the RAV CRV Escape, and Tucson / Sportage). Part of me thinks the Equinox should get larger and would serve more people that way though also. IMO the Trax is still clearly a size, weight, and price class below those just mentioned. IMO Trax and Equinox can coexist nicely and each make their own market splash. Encore and Trax don't need to compete for customers. Chevy can be cheap. Buick can have stuff and be spendy. RIght now the Equinox is too expensive IMO for most of the configs they sell it at. There needs to be a small crossover that can be bought high teens and the entry that competes in the Equinox class needs to be frequently attainable in the low teens for the FWD. think of all the Sonic sales that would be killed by a Trax that cost 1k more but had so much more interior space.
  6. i always thought Opel was adding a flagship above the Insignia.
  7. No, but that is exactly my point. They probably are ok with selling 50 thou of those a year without trying and without it taking equinox sales in comparison to a trax which they see as a cannibalizing threat and would have to work hard at selling. I myself dont think the trax cannibalizes the equinox as much as it would bring in more chevy buyers.
  8. When i was selling Suzukis and Veronas were in service for their death sentence (Veronas always were in service) I figured I could always switch the O and A and but a buick badge on em and the value went up instantly.
  9. i certainly am not saying it's not good at what it's main focus is. Even if this is the best small cheap RWD coupe out there, I still see the Toyota badge and all the rest that usually comes with the aura of a Toyota that I am not jiggy with. I'd probably pop for a base camaro or a 3 year old 1 series if this was what i was looking at.
  10. those two powertrain options on the fiesta are a great market move. the focus st is too spendy and too over the top. the tiny 3 should grab headlines and turn out to be a good everyday car as well. what a lot of folks don't know is the base focus' have been dirt cheap lately......but that is one without cruise, power windows, power locks. The dealer group i was at even had em ad'ed at 12999 for a few weeks a couple months ago. only 5 speeds on the stick though. Very impressed with how Ford is keeping the Fiesta fresh and relevant. The Sonic, i sure hope it turns up reliable over time since so many first time buyers are picking one and coming into the GM fold.
  11. Chevy moved 4,000 Captiva Sports last month, with no advertising, etc. All four of GM's divisions, the largest seller was a crossover (excluding pickups). Equinox, Terrain, Enclave, SRX. Tells you where the shoppers are. But Chevy figures the Captiva won't siphon Equinox sales and that a Trax might steal Sonic, Cruze, and Equinox sales.
  12. i worked with someone who's parents had an eAssist lacrosse and they loved it.
  13. i know lots like this car, but it does very little for me. cheap interior, why bother back seats.....dull styling
  14. that is it's huge flaw right now. That horizontally split chevy grille in just a few short months looks many years old. The front end on the new Traverse is so snazzy. That needs to propagate to the rest of the lineup pronto. Interior is sort of sparse and cheap looking inside the trax though.
  15. I loved the Encore I saw at the auto show here last year. To be able to style a vehicle with these weird dimensions to look this good is a great job.
  16. trax would be a great commuter. it's just a wee bit larger than an sx4, many people want small awd crossovers like this. Equinox sales WOULD NOT be lost selling this here. I do say though the styling should have had a few tweaks first before they might have brought it here. I'm gonna try to look at an Encore soon. It would be nice if the Trax were available too. I need a commuter like that.
  17. chevy will build captivas and send them here, will send a pittance few caprices. They really could sell 5,000 of these here. If anything make em rentals and fleet cars......sell about 5,000 at retail and sell about 10,000 of them as rentals....they'd have no trouble moving 5,000 of them retail. The rental volume would justify selling them here and would not water down sedan sales. An Eco wagon or hatch with a 6 speed would be cool. I still think Buick needs to sell the other Astra versions too....... If GM wants to stay toe to tow with VW they need to raise the profile here of some of the more Euro offerings they sell, here. Nice thing about the Cruze wagon is it won't have tight rear head room like the sedan.
  18. just drop the price and clear them out. put the 1.6 in it and add a stop start system as an option on like 2% for those who want it.
  19. GM will be overtaken by VW for the number 2 spot. GM is not aggressive enough and does not have enough presence in Europe. Plus VW is gaining in China.
  20. that is not the only reason. i think the styling was a bit amiss and there was some interior cheapness. It was trying to be too cool. This Rio is slightly cool, but still has a proper amount of mainstream. At the time, Spectra name was gaining a lot of traction but it was not cool enough, Forte killed all the brand equity in the Spectra name. If the next Forte had the looks of this Rio enlarged, and had been named Spectra all along, I think it would probably doing serious volume and making huge cuts into Corolla and Civic sales.
  21. sort of seems like an intent to expand the italian brands...which I don't see being uber successful.
  22. well i guess in 2013 they could shun Liberty and just call it the Jeep Progressive and even do a free insurance promotion with FLO. Cherokee it would end up to be. Jeep Liberty in 2013 does sound too cheesy.
