  1. "It's pretty! How is the gas mileage?" shows you how Jeep is a) going after the real buyers (women, and they want cute crossovers) and b) they are willing to water down what a real Jeep is (Wrangler) and dilute what Jeep is.
  2. Focus ST is da schizzle. That Sonic RS mpg is not all that great...... You holding out for that Fiesta 3 banger? A chevy version of that Encore at about 19,900 would be a nice option, wouldn't it.
  3. no, it will be a Honda, and be cheaper than the Encore, and thus sell way more.
  4. i think if the pillars were thicker and the height of the glass were not so tall, etc. I could be on board with it. As it is, it just is too much of a BMW coupe profile to me. Beefier looking pillars and roof and a more rakish back end might change my mind. Not as drastic as the CTS, but something just not so derned reminiscent of bland german car #54. Is there a 2 door 14 Impala chop out there? That would be a heckuva lot nicer IMHO edit GMI has a killer coupe chop another thread... With the fastback roofline it could make a good looking coupe, I think..
  5. i do like it.
  6. it would totally look fresh in 1992. or something. The impala grille on it is boss though. There is no hips on the car. It has the same sort of blandness that afflicted the GTO.
  7. maybe they will need their own launch party!! i wonder if it will have more than 185hp!! they would need a new sign!!!!
  8. i don't mind the upper headlight, but the lower ones should be larger. conspiracy theory, the 'leak' was intentional, due to the shock value of the new look, it gives people more time to get used to it and discuss it and become comfortable with it before show time.
  9. well, everything is so politically sensitive these days, i don't see how they can use the name cherokee and not upset the ------. Gedney stopped calling their little dill pickles midgets because some mom went on an offensive about how it was offensive because she has i guess a midget child.
  10. Bland, too much glass.
  11. Concept or no, that design is a mutt, ugly, and most of all, in no way forward thinking enough. 011 9-5 was sweet outside. I still think I might lookin into one......
  12. And the bastardization begins. Cherokee name is surprising too. I don't get the contemporary house things as a background. Pretty lame, I don't think people who read 'Dwell' are Jeepers.
  13. There would be enough biz globally for a large rwd platform that would be the Chevy cop cars and ss, holden commodore, Opel flagship. And basis for caddy even. I would want that future platform to be awd capable.
  14. I wish Kia wouldn't have puked on the interior of this car.....stylish outside.
  15. I am sorry but that makes ZERO sense. Personally, I very much hope that they realize that the Pushrod V8 represents an ace up their sleeve, not a liability. That they'll go for the lighter, more compact, power powerful, cheaper to build and no less fuel economical V8. And, honestly, I believe they will and that Motortrend doesn't know what they are talking about. But whatever it is that they do, making a Bi-turbo V6 ATS-V then switching to a V8 late in the model cycle makes ZERO sense. The ATS will be a TT V6 or a Pushrod V8, and that will be that from beginning to end. There won't be both. I don't think the twin turbo going into the ATS will be labelled ATS-V. I could be wrong, but it's just a hunch.
  16. two words (ok 4) union labor and contracts flip side is even if GM had cheap labor this is America, the beancounters would still try to strip the cost.
  17. ATS has had instant name equity in the market. CTS has a good rep. DTS was taking hold, XTS might have a good rep. SRX is doing well. ELR though, dud. Converj would be better, it would be ok if the Converj were not alphabet soup. Cadillac should really determine the alphabet soup thing on a model by model basis. No need to be so adamant that all or none has to be letters. FWIW I think the new MKZ is helping Lincoln as far as getting more name familiarity with the 3 letter thing.
  18. your theory is nice, its not reality. my cobalt struggles to hit 30 average with the E-10 blend. the moment i fill an empty tank with pure gas i am pulling 32.5-33 no problem on average. my best readings in optimal scenarios with E-10 is about 37. I've reached 40 on my 43 mile jaunt (most at 70+ mph) with non E-10. My taurusx same deal. Best i can usually pull on a trip is low twenties. With non E-10 in the tank i have been in the 24.5-25 range. Other friends etc. have confirmed it (one friend pulls about 40k miles a year or more in company cars). 10-15% better mpg with non e-10 mandated swill crap.
  19. that one rear quarter shot screams chrysler 200, dollar store version.....
  20. Toyota, Ford, Nissan, Hyundai all have the two tier solution....the camry+avalon, maxima+altima....etc. the two models together = great volume. where ford may sell 200,000 fusions and 60,000 taurus, GM may sell 150,000 malibus and 150,000 impalas. The Impala is unique for GM because it has been able or had to sell at lower prices. Now they are trying to move up, the Malibu sales should be geared towards the value set a little more. But GM will never give up being able to make the large Impala affordable for a big set of the population. To divert from the 4 sedan solution would be suicide. And to give up one of the two brands, Impala or Malibu just for the sake of reducing a model would be suicide. And Cruze is establishing itself as a nameplate possibly with legs. You cannot redefine the size classes of those cars. Gm has buick because some love GM but don't want a Chevy. In order to keep the showroom doors open, you have to offer enough variety and models to give people a somewhat full lineup (trust me i know what happens to a brand and dealers when the brand does not have enough segments of the market filled). Buick needs at least 3 sedans. Older folks always will believe Buick will have a large car and Buick needs a small cheap car like the Verano to keep the doors open and traffic coming in. The Regal is still the best Buick but it needs to repackage and reprice everything and refocus the car. Maybe the next Regal is actually something different. If anything, Chevy is lacking models and variety in its lineup. Look at Hyundai. SS is here to give RWD fans a GM RWD choice, and to basically prop up Holden and Austrialia a bit. I really doubt GM cares whether Zeta dies off but re-doing the commodore had more to do with throwing a bone to the Aussies so they could sell other Holdens and not lose the business.
  21. The front drive Encore leather I drove MSRP was 30,595 and did not have NAV. CX-5 grand touring front drive with remote start, exact same MSRP after I uncheck the parking sensors which the Buick does not have on that trim. both pearl white Buick is 25/33. Mazda is 25/32. Oh my gosh, sound the alarm. 1 mpg! Deal breaker! Encore nets a heated steering wheel and power passenger seat over the mazda in that matchup. Basically the Mazda is not far off. 32 vs. 33 mpg......the comparison is more than valid. Fully loaded every option, 33,8xx on the Encore....way too ambitious, even as good as it is, for an all wheel drive Sonic hatch and 138 hp...........
  22. spend how much to certify, advertise, and distribute a car that only 300 people would buy (without an automatic)? They would have to price it at 50k to make up for the 20k in marketing costs each car would bear just to get the word out. Utter nonsense! If offered, the manual would account for nearly half of sales. This is a limited production performance car, and the intended market wants the manual. GM did learn (through G8 and Camaro sales) that it doesn't make sense to import a v6 version, but they seem to have missed the memo on the manual transmission. While opinion is divided on the styling, the desire for a manual is overwhelming - just scan around enthusiast sites (the target market). This car is meant to be an enthusiast's car, so the normal dumbing-down to an automatic is exactly the wrong way to sell it. As for marketing, those who want the car already know about it.. And with expected volumes of 3-5000 per year acceptable to Mark Reuss, how much advertising do you need for a car that makes its own news? You have to understand performance cars and performance car buyers - the usual sheeple coddling doesn't apply. Of course, in order to support your statements, you have to make the assumption that enthusiasts and performance car buyers ONLY drive manuals. That's far from true. Not at all. But on a car of this sort, a manual option is required. how many people with the money in hand, ready to spend, when writing the check, will a) buy an SS and b) buy one with a manual. then it's a matter of whether they can cover the cost of it. When it comes down to brass tacks its one of two things, chevy either has determined there is no hard evidence to suggest they can make the numbers work on the manual (internet posters who never buy any new cars and can't probably afford the gas in the beater they already drive are certainly numerous on the net, or they may just simply be waiting some period of time to get the manual out. BMW never has the M version of each of its cars ready at the get go.
  23. Well they had better get another engine in there ASAP then. A nice escape or cx5 is right there next to it.
