  1. Pop and Easy are pretty nicely priced.
  2. Can't blame you if you do. GM does not really make much for large cars these days.
  3. Couldn't fault you for going with a 300. That v6 plus 8 speed rocks I bet. Isn't it outrageous how many car choices you have these days? Would it seem as though you are leaning larger than smaller?
  4. That is always the classic dilemma. An older, less glamorous, but well equipped subsidized car, or a newer model with more panache. Chrysler did a masterful job of turning a lemon into lemonade with the Avenger and 200. One other thing this brings up is the big price hike in smaller cars, due sure to more content. But this is a perfect example of how there is downward pressure for compact pricing when you get an opportunity to option up a midsizer for little more. Really, a Verano turbo would have a bit more go, but less space and maybe a few more lux gadgets. Look at how much more you'd spend. I do think the Pentastar may be the item that would tip the scales if you want some go. I don't recall this car having crazy 0-60 though, even with the penta. I wonder if by now the used Regal GS's are approaching that 25k price point.
  5. you'd want the v6. most definitely.
  6. If you could do a 2 year high mileage lease on a Volt. Don't give all your money away for taxes and finance charges. Let GM and stuff take the first couple year hit and then give the car back. You don't want a used hybrid to unload anyways.
  7. 21/31 It would nice if it were 25/35 but the Impala is heavy. What would be nice is the eAssist plus 2.5. But it would be nice if EAssist were refined even more.
  8. I like the steering wheel, it reminds me of Impalas of old. What is more egregious inside the Impala is the quality of some plastics, and stuff like how cheap and barren the sides of the console are, how dumb the plood is, and the grain on the plastics too.
  9. you noticed! It is a raging bargain. But its a Chrysler!!!!! What would a new Impala cost same equipped?
  10. All good choices. Obviously the Vdub diesels make sense from mpg standpoint, and the Passat is roomy. You wouldn't be giving that up. I think personally the Passat is a bit cheap inside. Cruze diesel or Verano, can't go wrong. I am surprised at your notice of the 200 but you did notice it's main draw right now. price, chrysler is giving them away. A good chance to burn miles for not much cost. The pentastar is a gem, and in an AWD Journey it will pull close to 30 mpg in some cases (my own experiences). Imagine with FWD only and less weight. Used 300, good choice also. The Fusion, the 2.0t is a huge gas hog, but the 1.6 is ok. Bring your fire extinguisher. Mazda6? 38 highway mpg. Not an idea you were expecting, but how about just a Malibu 2.5? Or, even a CPO pre 14 Impala with the 3.6? Find one with like 5k miles on it and drive the piss out of it! It may be the same idea in concept with the Chrysler 200. Just not as faux elegant. An ATS 2.5 RWD may end up being not far off 25k by the end of summer. Regals may be had cheap near end of model year also. Me, I still want to find a Kizashi, of course not new anymore. The real world mpg is better than posted and AWD. Of course the big issue there is dealer network. The car is still covered with warranty very well if you find good in service date and most of the 100k powertrain. Of course the CVT may not be your cup of tea. You could maybe find a 2012 or 2013 SLS or GTS for a lot under 20 now. I don't think resale hit is going to be too bad as it's already taken enough of dive.
  11. yes but i think people can adapt.
  12. steering wheel on the Impala to me is just fine. It's no reason to lose a comparo. What the hell is a Cadenza? Can I put file folders in it? Plus, it's ugly, has no history, and is a Kia. Screw M/T. My old boss who GM's the Chevy store now posted the other day about how awesome the new Impy is to drive. I do think a diesel Malibu or Impala would do well also. A nice good sized 4 cyl turbo diesel in the Impala should run mid forties on highway mpg. Current Taurus is really popular here. I do think a reskin instead of a full redo would do the trick, but it sounds like they will make the next Taurus on the Fusion platform. The Police Interceptor is all over around here too. Most of those and the Explorer ones are AWD. Even the cops have AWD now.
  13. the verano is not firm, it is baseline to me.
  14. corolla budget would buy a hybrid of some kind if the budget were bigger. i'm predicting she ends up in an Altima or Sentra, or a RAV4. The suggestion that the Verano might be too firm makes me LOL!
  15. Epsilon disease! That's why! Although I am sure it feels less huge driving it. My folks are visiting this weekend and thought brought the DTS. Cars like that, very few and far between.. I am not sure the XTS replaces that experience. That's ok thought I guess. I saw a killer looking XTS today. It's sleek look is a nice alternative to the more traditional silhouette of the new CTS. It should be interesting to see which sells better! The XTS is the one I think someone buys if they came to the Cadillac show room looking for an SRX. The Lexus RX / ES crowd. I am guessing that over time, the XTS will be the one that gets discounted the most, also. They may position it for the volume model.
  16. making people pay for leather is a barrier to purchase when the price of the diesel powertrain alone will jack up the real transaction price of the car vs. a gas only version. I would think they would want the diesel to be successful, and at least give you the chance to get it without. Almost like they planned to give it a chance of failure.
  17. take an extra year to fix the ugly, not just a month
  18. dash gives me the vibe of a 99 park avenue dash
  19. wonder how size compares.
  20. Hyundai still lacks the finer points of interior quality, even though the design is quite good here. With some more go juice and better manners all around, I think they would have come closer to the mark. The 3 door is unique and still i find it a complete bitch to get in the back of this car. This car would have more appeal in today's world to me as a cheap entry level car with super gas mileage. In that regard, the styling is a huge bonus over say, a Fit. Hatchbacks are still a tough sell to a lot of folks. If done like an Astra, I think it works better. The cargo hold here is a bit compromised, as is interior space.
  21. XTS does not feel roomy like the devilles of a few years ago. Cadillac across the board has tighter interiors, although the XTS is good sized. ATS is tiny in back. CTS I would hope is an improvement over the ATS.
  22. Not typically a Japlux fan, but I have like the TL, TSX a lot in their latest gens. They possess the quality feel that i feel Honda abandoned. To me the ILX has a different feel, and that feel is probably just as you described it. In some ways, this is the future of motoring as people get less and less connected from the details about hardware. Not to say the ILX probably doesn't drive alright, just that the other things you mentioned are more prominent to the consumer. Every mfr needs a car that they can lease cheap and then recycle it as a CPO. And, there is brand entry. Acura used to have brand image to each of their models. Legend, etc. These days I just sort of think of them as premium Hondas, but considering how bang up Honda does......to have a premium Honda is a good move. I think Lincoln is trying for the same thing but you know that won't work the same way for them. Buick is probably a parallel to Acura. A friend has a 13 year old Toyo Solara she might actually be getting rid of. Mentioned leasing, I tried to steer her towards a Verano, or a Mazda. But she is so Japan biased, the ILX is probably right up her alley. Japanese brand, mpg perception.
  23. meanwhile, in these parts today, ethanol blend average gas was 4.39.
  24. Err.... Right. Problem is Chevy is not German or VW. Besides 30% is far too few. Where is the other MPG going to come from? Is GM and the other going to higher Penn and Teller? i will guess about 5% of cruze production is diesel. Reason? Standard leather and a 25k price tag. Oddly enough, today, diesel is 40 cents cheaper than gas a a few stations in these parts. i think Chevy will be just fine sticking with v8's in the trucks and the new v6. I don't think GM -needs- to do a gas turbo truck. GM would benefit from a light duty diesel i think. I suppose the Taurus Drew speced out has massage seats too. Notice the AWD. And go to any Ford dealer that is worth its salt and by July that Taurus will be 10 grand off.
  25. stick to the basic segments. Sedans, in a few sizes. Crossovers, in 2 or so sizes. ALmost have to keep the Escalade, it is just a Suburban trim package. Coupes? 1 for sure, 2, not so sure. ATS best coupe. Caddy does need an indulgence car like a convertible. Whether it is an XLR or a 4 seat, don't know. It should be unique. ELR is a given. A good way to sell Volts and justify the price. Cien would be awesome, but doubt they could swing the production budget. Audi, Merc, and BMW, their model proliferation will come back to bite them someday. Too many models, the well will run dry. We may be at a point where a sub SRX crossover is needed, and yes even a FWD based subcompact car..........
