  1. awesome all around. stylish dash, fold flat seating and huge cargo area. majestic styling. love that new headlight! Makes a great case for a return to the behemoth SUV of yore. Tahoe existence to me means no need ever for Trailblazer with the Traverse around.
  2. I doubt it. Samsung likes to throw a buttload of complicated and useless stuff on the phone in some cases to claim its got more stuff. Plus, Samsung phones look and feel cheap. More folks switch from Androids to Apple than vice versa. Lots of folks complain about buggy Android phones. Plus, Apple phones have much better interdevice behavior in the biosphere. They all work together really nice. I can't wait to get my new iPhone and use the airplay to apple tv feature. Part of the new a7 chip benefit will be the display to apple tv or other TV so you can game on the phone and see it on tv. itunes still rules the roost and with my itunes match, i dont need to put the songs on the phone anymore. I can stream my whole library off the cloud. A little larger screen would be nice, but i still want to get the phone in my pocket. Is that a phone in your pocket or are you just glad to see me? The galaxy note, great as a tablet, it's a phablet. How stupid would someone look holding a huge ass galaxy note up to their ear?
  3. I would just keep the name Adam, I think. THere's not much in the Buick name history that would apply to this lil' bugger........
  4. wtf, there is nothing wrong with the cruze diesel powertrain! aside from little bits of tranny programming to work on. THE ENGINE IS FINE
  5. but they only make what they sell, and they fetch a nice profit on them. Must be a very low volume production on the Navi.
  6. stair step is used by every mfr, i would bet, how is this news? ANd Lincoln has not just started doing this.......
  7. Calais? International Series? 442?
  8. Charter schools are a sham that private companies are taking advantage of to funnel public dollars into their pockets. There have already been reports of these schools selling their buildings off to a third party, who then leases it back to them at ridiculously high rates. They are also engaging in shady methods of reporting their progress, in one example I read they were comparing real students grades and performance at the charter schools with a fictional composite of a student at the public schools. I don't dispute that there are many instances of that going on. In fact, one project I am working right now is a charter school old building renovation. It's more about project cost and the return on investment and tax credits that are being farmed out of the project, etc. It makes me a bit edgy as it should be about the educational environment...... However, on the educational side of it, this particular organization is turning out excellent students, and there are lines of people waiting to get in to it. People are sending their kids from long distance with public schools right in their back yard. The methods used and the teachers are good. There was another charter school i had worked on a few years ago, same deal, lines of parents wanting to get their kids into it. In the end, this is what the parents have decided they want for their children. It is not your choice or more importantly, the government's choice to overly specify how they should be educated, aside from basics like, can johnny due multiplication and write complete sentences. The competitive aspect (while perhaps improperly funded) of this keeps public school systems accountable. That check and balance is needed in a bad way to keep a certain element from being fostered in the system. computer engineers might be the only engineers making 75k out of school. when my sister graduated electrical engineering back in the mid-late eighties, i think she had been expecting and got around a 40k start. in 2013, at least in my field the starting electrical engineers don't make much more than that, if. 25 years since and the same pay. I'm sure it's changed over the years, when I got out of grad school in '97 as a software engineer my starting salary was $56k....a little over 2 years later I was making almost $90k and then 2 years after than over $100k... boy did i make a bad choice. I had a girlfriend in college who was a math / comp sci double major. I think part of the reason she dumped me is because she figured out that she was in a good money field and I would never be.......women are wise that way........ computer industry by and large still has relatively good pay scales, if your job doesn't get outsourced......
  9. love those upcoming front drive 3 cylinder ultimate driving machines! BREAK THROUGH with the 03 or 04 CTS and led zepellin, awesome ad campaign..... Me thinks I would love to find an 06 or 07 CTS 3.6 manual to play with! The old style........ that was the best.... should the new flagship sedan on Omega be the LTS name or should it go back to STS? or DTS even?

  11. I'm all for good pay and benefits for teachers but do recognize that benefits for many teachers is quite good as well. I'm all for improving the overall compensation of teachers, but as a condition to that I would require that lots of the admin and operational fat get trimmed from education as a whole because a whole $h!load of money keeps getting shoveled into the education sinkhole and the end result is not better educated kids. Like every other facet of our economy I would like to see more done with less like everyone else. One good start is get the mandatory union BS out of education, that is a sinkhole and siphon to the public dollars that gets funneled right back to one party for their election campaigns. I'd like to see as a condition of compensating teachers more that they would not be as protected with regards to tenures and all of that as well. If we want the best and pay them more, we can't have as lavish as employment guarantees. Get some right to work stuff going on. Wouldn't it be nice if your wage as a teacher were uncapped and not on scale? And I would like to see more of the ability for parents to use their education funds for competitive schools, charters, home schools, private schools, etc. This would help foster education innovation and keep the public side of it on its toes. You also have to factor in the benefits and pensions etc. that compared to a lot of folks are gold plated in some instances.
  12. I could hardly hear any clatter when i was inside the Cruze. When i was outside and the car was running, I could definitely tell it was a diesel. There is a BUTTLOAD of soundproofing in this car! Extremely quiet at cruising speeds.... I have test driven about 4 or 5 or so VW's with the dual clutch tranny and disliked them all. GAs and diesel. Oddly, the Ford Focus with DCT didn't bother me at all really. Audi's new diesel commercial, I think this commercial will benefit the Cruze and VW more than Audi...LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=amBTr9kcJes
  13. again? lather, rinse, repeat. ugh.
  14. nice article..... http://www.cheersandgears.com/topic/81799-2014-chevy-cruze-diesel/ I am not sure why people might think it's unrefined? It maybe is not as revvy and smooth as the 1.4t, but IMO the cruze diesel is more refined than the VW's. overall i thought the cruze diesel was very refined. a bit buggy in town, but no one who does a ton of in town driving will be buying these. these are road cars. car and driver....they choked and picked the Jetta..... http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2014-chevrolet-cruze-20td-vs-2013-volkswagen-jetta-tdi-comparison-test auto.ca did the right thing and went with the Cruze! http://www.autos.ca/car-comparisons/comparison-test-2013-volkswagen-jetta-tdi-vs-2014-chevrolet-cruze-clean-diesel/ I dislike the VW tranny.
  15. http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2014-toyota-corolla-first-drive/med/#photo-852130 2014 corolla leg room, compare to malibu 41.4 inches of rear leg room.
  16. no drive, but touched em at two separate dealers. Hatchbacks. Car looks good mostly but to me the proportions are out of whack with the seemingly long hood and not so long passenger cabin. Some of this is likely trickery as the side swoop and the hood basically going over the bumper still doesn't keep some of the windshield from encroaching on the front axle line. But overall, the side profile looks very uncomfortable for a front drive car. You could say they are trying to emulate a rear drive BMW in its proportions. The shape is nice mostly but I think it lacks definition. Looks a bit blobbish. Or European, take your pick. What I could see through the glass about the interior, it looks really nicely done on textures and colors and layout. Back seat looks snug but hard to say till you get in there. Does again very much mimic the vibe of a BMW. Tiny buttons and radio pod look like they could be extremely frsutrating.
  17. Love these humpback GM cars! Thanks blu for the thread!
  18. I read today, Prius is top selling car in CA. There at least they consider it affordable because of the fuel savings.
  19. " "Sales for the sixth generation Taurus are projected to be around 50,000 to 75,000 annually, as Ford planned a lower volume to avoid steep discounts/incentives. Previous iterations of the Taurus, which were classified as midsize cars, had sold 400,000 vehicles per year at their peak in the 1990s" Ford is easily meeting it's designed sales goals for the 2010+ Taurus. When Ford moved the Taurus up in the lineup in 2008, it was with the purpose of drastically reducing volume. You have to remember the plant its built in makes other models. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Taurus_(sixth_generation) When I was selling, my used car manager had been at the chevy store for awhile, this was back in like 08-10. He said the Impala majorly outsold the Malibu in the showroom at that time, even though the Impala was a fossil. That was in a time when what, 70% of Impala's sales were fleet? Ford was probably moving more retail units Fusion alone at the time than Malibu plus Impala. Both the Impala and Malibu were retail stinkers. So to suggest Ford was flopping is presposterous considering GM could hardly move any Impala or Malibu units even then in comparison, and with anything resembling profit. The fact that Ford could take a car like the Taurus and in a few short years move it from a 16k loss leader to a car that people would pay mid thirties for in the showroom is quite amazing. One could argue that GM is copying Ford in doing that. Ford is pleasantly happy to sell a few Taurus and MKS on a now old platform for big money (plus the Flex, MKt, etc.) on the side of selling what is now 300k Fusions a year. Ford basically schooled GM big time. New Impala is the only mid or large size chevy sedan that GM has been able to generate major showroom buzz with and make real money on in YEARS. Maybe since the 77 Impala / Caprice.
  20. it would be great here! the repressive govt regs need to go
  21. my old boss and buddy who gm's the chevy store is fetching 27 for impala LS right now. 10 months from now it will have bigger discounts and more rebates and will be able to be had for 24-25k. http://www.appleautos.com/2014-Chevrolet-Impala-1LS-Northfield-MN/vd/16363248 the 08-12 malibu rear seat is tight also....moreso in width. gm cannot do backseats to save it's life
  22. someone may want a hybrid, but not a toyota
  23. Everyone always forgets, GM's recipe up til just a bit ago has been $h!ty Impala + not king of the class Malibu = x sales. Ford has been buttload of Fusions + a handful of Taurus = probably about the same as GM. I really don't think Ford is all bent out of shape about actual Taurus sales as that platform is used more for the crossovers and now of course Ford don't care if they sell a Taurus or a Police Interceptor. It's still a unit. Hyundai sells buttloads of Sonatas and a handful of Azeras. Camry / Avalon, Altima / Maxima is a similar thing. There are customers that do like the added heft of the Taurus over of the Fusion. And some folks don't like the 3 window styling. Taurus also offers the TT v6. GM's total Malibu + Impala volume may go down if they don't keep fleeting the old model. Malibu won't sell well no matter how much incentives it gets, so at some point the new Impala prices will not sustain. You'll see new Impala LS's next summer with OTD prices around 23-24k. Probably comparable equipment wise to an OTD 21-22k Fusion.
  24. "International Series" was always my favorite!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO or was "Eurosport" my favorite? I am waiting for GM to come out with something called 'techline' trim.......
