looks inoffensive, generic, decent enough to not lose its previous buyer base or lose any ground in the market.

To address Reg's concern, this is an area where there is more to it than the numbers. There may be an issue with the way rear seat room is measures skewing the number in an unfavorable way. The rear seat feels much much roomier than the current model. Part of that is because the front seat feels roomier too. I can sit in the front seat and move it further forward than I would in the current car and that in turn gives more room to the rear seat passenger. Re-reading your quote again I think there is another important point you touched on. Malibu/regal/ cruze the current versions, the lower part of the dash sticks out way too far and are big time knee knockers compared to other makes. If they managed to fix that with better dash and airbag design, I can see where that would help with front seat comfort and rear seat space. Lots of GM cars though have that congested front part of the cabin at the knees.

The current Malibu is the worst for no foot space under the front seat and poor access to the footwell of the backseat otherwise. GM always has been bad about low rear seat cushions and tight head room also. Raise the rear seat, clear out the foot space, allow headroom, and the actual legroom number matters less. But if this car still has the 9 inches of nothing under the hood between the front clip and the power train, as this bs about new platform is BS. The added rear seat room could come equally from making the underwood space efficient instead of tacking on more length and still not using that real well either.

A 1.5 turbo? No 2.5? 4 extra inches of wheelbase but only 1.3 inches of added legroom? Wtf chevy ? Looks good though. I will give it that. That alone goes a long way. Exterior looks good, interior looks really good. Lame output from the 2.0. Is this on purpose as for example might the higher output 2.0 be headed for Impala? The 2.5 had good EPA numbers. Why didn't they keep it?

when you have no concept of your own, of course you copy. Lincoln and Ford really half assed this one. The dash looks no different than most other ford products and not any different than the MKS etc. either. The MKr was nice, why not roll with that? Here is what really happened. Cadillac and the CT6 was going to take all the attention and Lincoln's marketing people at the last minute wanted some air time and they either revived an old dead concept or really rushed a half asses junk concept in time for the show.

lame. this is no new direction. Its a puffed up MKs meets MKz meets 'this is how Ford does Korean versions of Bentley' type stuff. The interior is from 10 years ago and has all sort of tacky bling. I can't believe people would criticize caddy and like this. There's no length to this thing, no presence. Avenir FAR better. Current MKz is a pretty sexy car with a half ass warmed over Fusion interior. Genesis, way better than this.

Miss Nichols, you can make the vehicle all electric but then you shift the carbon emissions elsewhere. That is what your stupid statement does not say. Of course, making vehicles all plug in means you can move the power plants and their pollution to outside of California. You can say you cleaned up the emissions, and then piss all over (fine, tax, denigrate) the state where the electric plant is that is putting out all the electricity for the plug in cars. Perfect strategy so you can keep motoring around as much as you want and blame the side effects on others. I think from a convenience factor, many car buyers will want an electric vehicle someday. But only if you can recharge it in 3 minutes like filling your gas tank, and be able to do that at every city block. And, have comparable range, say 300 miles. In the meantime, we'll need a gas engine included, ala volt.

Transmission electrical airbags stalling consumer reports least reliable. Fiat forums are a bit of a hoot to read. 500x I think is a squashed 500l. Might even have the same dash. Also some good fiat forums on the turbo lag. Maybe it's only evident on the stick or Dct.

having driven these, not bad and appealing from a space and function standpoint. lots of turbo lag though, and lots of major issues with their DCT. I think FCA ordered up newer ones to mate to the regular six speed from now on. These things have a horrible rap for quality already. I wonder if it will catch up with them. Otherwise to me it would be possibly on a list to consider in future.

German rwd cars usually have long wheelbases and the firewall way back, and with engines becoming more compact all the time, it makes sense they go back to their strengths (in line design). V6's are actually complex even though in a v design tHey can become almost cube like in total space used. Nice to see a manufacturer stick with something that differentiates themselves.

yeah we could see this one a mile away -
when you start having turbos and 8 speed trannies, and more AWD systems, this is what you get. i don't think this helps owner confidence......... i agree on those with the 10/100's and 5/60 BTB I think you see a lot of dealerships tacking on 'lifetime powertrain warranties', so maybe GM figures they won't need to cover it so long any more.

the chrysler vans do not have good crash test ratings, so the bulk contributes nothing to that. the next platform should be engineered much better so it uses whatever its weight is more efficiently. http://money.cnn.com/2014/11/20/autos/iihs-crash-test-minivan/ -
Agree on the phaeton although they probably think the market is endless for expensive German sedans that make profits. Polo is a good car to sell in many countries where people don't have a lot to spend on a car.

i have to admit, a trip to the auto show yesterday took away a lot of my inherent buyer's remorse here, and comparing a lot of things like styling and interiors under the same roof, I think the van is turning out a decent decision. One of the big things i noticed at the auto show is the weird dichotomy.....the continuing shrinkage in size and comfort of anything that is not an SUV/CUV or truck, and how small those sedans and coupes are getting to be. Presumably for to meet the tighter FE regs, and yet hardly anyone was looking at sedans or coupes. People are flocking to anything CUV SUV...... One example, the new Mustang is virtually uninhabitable......... -
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2014_Buick_Regal.shtml the epa ratings of the 2.4 never were that good. Not even better than the turbo really. Odd that the Equinox with the same motor would have better epa mpg.
