  1. Caddy shoud not be allowing pics of the V cars in white. Check out the ATS V writeup on C/D website. It has the dark gray ATS V coupe. Stunning and expensive looking, the white ruins it.
  2. i'm one of the biggest Ford fanbois on the site here...the Continental is a puffy MKS meets Bentley yuckathon. Its one of the worst Fords in the last 10 years. It's tacky, unoriginal, where do i stop. The dash is no more evolved than most ford products in the last 10-15 years. MKz and MKr concept are beautiful. COntinental in fell swoop throws it into the trash. I guess I wouldn't call the Genesis hugely prestigious but in the right colors, and with far better proportions of length, width, hood, greenhouse, wheelbase, overhangs, just looks far more the part of tasteful luxury car. Now i will also say the Avenir concept and CT6 look better than both. Sidebar, not that is directly related, but i am starting to see a few new CTS' on the road lately. I think the price adjustments are making place in the market. The one I saw last night was killer, shined about as well as a car could be. Black, premium wheels. WOW it looked fantastic in that combination. I just struggle with how the Lincoln looks in comparison to the new Cadillacs.....The Hyundai doesn't have the weight of the world on its brand and so therefore even if it has some faux about its look, at the end of the day, it looks more expensive than its brand and won't be grossly out of place in a parking lot of other better marques.
  3. attractive. genesis is long lean and attractive. the lincoln is most certainly not
  4. i've come around a bit on this car. An AWD V6 in lower trim at a good lease or good price OTD would be a great value. Not a huge fan of the dash, but it is better than lots of stuff in similar price ranges (i.e. BMW's) Why isn't the new continental more like this?
  5. I don't believe the world economy can support the German marques and they way they build. The more likely future outside of autonomous cars is we devolve into having to settle for Tatas and Suzukis due to world regulations and lack of enough world spending power to drive anything else. VW is saddled with the German overhead. Maybe I can reincarnate my old Suzuki sales self in the future when you want to trade in your Mercedes S class for something you are allowed to own in the future. Sort of like how American car companies have to rely on pickups and SUVs to turn profit, we know the Cobalt, Focus, and Caliber weren't paying the bills. VW brand does really well elsewhere in sales, just not here. Profit per car on a VW globally is only like $700, not that much. I don't see Peich just retiring to Austria to drive his Veyrons, the guy is going to come back with a vengence because he is a narcissist. But that's not the case anymore. GM and Ford have learned new tricks and are putting out small cars that actually compete in their segments. Chrysler is a little bit further behind in the Dart powertrain, but the vehicle itself is a solid buy. I wonder if this move seals the fate of the VW Passat.
  6. funny how the Germans have to rely on being lux car makes to be successful. When they need to be everyman cars, it becomes difficult. I know VW does well in other parts of the planet, but i have a feeling the German POV in building cars isn't completely well suited to VW increasing share in the US.
  7. true. But if they sell a few thousand of each base model and leave the seat out of it, they save the 200 bucks extra, or so would be their reasoning. "Those few people that don't care won't miss it and we can make extra $$$$ on it being an option". I have the same bitch with cruise control on things like the LS Cruze, etc.
  8. All the new cop vehicles here are explorer or taurus Ths new one solves the cabin claustrophobia and rear seat room issue by the looks of it. I'm not totally convinced this is on the fusion based platform. I know that makes sense for a lot of reasons, but this is chunky like the current taurus, and the front end looks relatively unchanged. Ford has tested these old Volvo chassis on the taurus and explorer now for police use and they are solid. I can't see them giving up on it without making a long term payback before testing out a new chassis for police use. Continental concept aka MKS has the same chunky proportions. If they lengthen the wb for Taurus and continental they can reuse the chassis for a longer explorer too which it needs the length badly for the back seat. A new edge passed me tonight. At first I could hardly tell it was all new. Ford is really trying to blend in these days.
  9. MkZ so much nicer.....this is a dud Where is this? http://preview.netcarshow.com/Lincoln-MKR_Concept-2007-hd.jpg
  10. I feel an original Azera vibe here and I am not sure why. Like a muscled up and squared off Azera. Well, this might bode well for Impala sales now! It's like Ford has its Focus / Mondeo 'world design language' programmed into a supercomputer now, and they just enter in design parameters, length, height, 'target age of buyer' etc. They push a button and it just spits shtuff out.
  11. very non Avenir....... don't forget the upcoming Envision, Buick has really gone down bland boulevard by trying to blend in with cues of other makes....
  12. Ding ding, the cop car part will probably be the case and a lot of why they are even planning to bother with this here. The current Taurus is popular in these parts and I really like it. This just loses a lot. This just doesn't do much for me.....yet. Maybe I will warm to it. I don't know. Ford has really farted out some bland stuff recently. All that said, I leased a 500 once over the Fusion because of the extra room. So who knows, this is probably destined for my garage if I got a good deal on it.
  13. me too. very chinese, very hyundai. Very dongfeng Might as well make our American icon Buick Chinese now. China will become the world currency and they will own us in the future anyways. They might as well take our car style away also.
  14. Power hatch was being difficult last night. Almost kept us from our trip. Second leg of our trip on fresh filled tank was 26mpg over about 100 miles. Not bad. Most of that was under 70mph though. First leg of trip at 70+ was around 23.5 mpg. In town driving is hitting about 19-20 consistently. Had another trip recently where I refilled the tank with E85 for a 1.23 a gallon. Got almost 20 mpg out of that tank and it was under 20 bucks to fill it. Mpg early on and through cold temps was BAD. As it's breaking in, it's getting fairly good and at least in line with EPA ratings, which is all needs to do. For a huge barge with brick like aerodynamics, that is not bad. Family members love it. I enjoy it too, but the ride and drive are not great. Trade off you get. There is road noise, the suspension isn't good, steering is alright though. Feels every bit it's size. My taurus x weighed the same but felt like a car. This is definitely more like a bus. The standard touring L leather is about perfect for this type of vehicle. Heavy grain, won't show dirt , durable. The Napa leather on the limited is the soft shiny stuff that will be shot Ina few years.
  15. Great mpg. !
  16. I still am interested in your posts. There have been some good prices on new remaining 14 diesels, but not 'rock bottom'. I still think there is a ways to go yet. The used ones I see listed are of no big price advantage and have lots of miles on them. With diesel now only about 30 cents apart again, the diesel can make financial sense for awhile too. Truth is if I felt confident about my job with 45 mile commute lasting, I would have probably done a deal on it. My fear is I get a new gig and it's 10 miles away and it's hard to get the mpg out of it I need. Really my wife and I would like a larger car too. Used Gas passats and new body style impalas are available for under 20 grand and it makez it hard to go small and diesel when those choices are out there. Despite mpg and all. My dad was visiting and even went and took another test drive in one again. He is a diesel fanatic and even tried to work some numbers for trading his DTS. Not good enough numbers yet either. Plus he too thinks the larger passat gives more room. The 15's are coming in but the 14's have a warranty advantage. I think if a person were serious enough and spent enough time doing it they could probably find a dealer who is willing to sell the car to get rid of it. Great car though. Malibu diesel 2016 with less weight would be perfect but theory have hybrid instead. New volt and other EV's make it hard for diesel to regain a niche here. If I did get a cruze diesel I might also think about getting it from a dealer that has free lifetime powertrain warranty.
  17. Awesome vehicle. I see several new suburbans and escalades. Not so many Tahoes.
  18. The Car and Driver I just got has a road test on the new Renegade. Which version? 1.4 Sport, MANUAL TRANSMISSION, ALL WHEEL DRIVE. The test is not yet available on the website, but when it is, I will post it. A pretty complimentary review. I so wanted to post it, I thought ocnblu would like to read about it.........
  19. great decision by Chevrolet. Maybe Bolt from the movie could be an ad spokesman. If the range promised is delivered, this may be a bellweather for EV's in general.
  20. the small CUV market has grown so much, it already is splintering into sub groups. MSRP on more typical LT Trax AWD are about 25,300-26,000 and up from there, to even on the verge of 27,000 Most of the Renegade Latitude 4X4 i have built are falling in about the same range. So if you simply come down to small "cute" AWD or 4WD American brand SUV four cylinder 25,000- abouts at start, they are remarkably similar and I easily can see many a shopping comparison from consumers, especially women CUV shoppers
  21. Cheeky indeed. Trax will probably get slaughtered by this thing. Two different customers I think Yes and no. On a primary level, the Trax fits in with the HRv's, CX-3's, etc. However, I think people will cross shop due to 4wd and general price point, and they likely will be classfied into the same size group. They will probably be compared in magazine comparos. You will get shoppers that will go down the ladder from Cherokee due to not being able to afford or want to spend so much and they will look at the Renegade. Of course now the Terrain and Equinox are too big or expensive for some.
  22. chevy wanting to add alum to its trucks yet it just launched an advertising assault talking about how their trucks are all high strength steel.
  23. Cheeky indeed. Trax will probably get slaughtered by this thing.
  24. (edit: down several posts is the review----here http://www.cheersandgears.com/topic/84699-2015-jeep-renegade/page-3#entry763643 ) ----- note: I went to get my first oil change on my new Town and Country and the dship had a new Renegade on the showfloor. After checking it out, I intend to take a test drive soon. I didn't realize it would have the option for a stick, and on both FWD and AWD. Otherwise the 2.4 engine will sell the most since that is how you get an automatic. So this for now is just an impression on sitting in it and seeing it in person, and especially with it right next to the lame Compass, I can tell you what looks cheeky and cartoonish in pictures has a lot more character and meat to it in person. I was rather taken aback by how good a job Jeep did with the look of the vehicle, and in particular the interior and packaging. I was shocked at how well the 'Jeep meets Kia Soul' look fits into the Jeep karma. The price of the vehicle in the show floor was mid twenties for an automatic 4x4 Latitude. I can pretty much say that if the equipment and price is comparable between a Trax and the Renegade, the Renegade crushes the Trax in terms of room and space, style, character, while being darned close on MPG. The interior was pretty darned nice for the price and room abounds. I am 6'-1" and there was at least 4" of headroom left atop my head, front and back. No shortage of girth, plenty of shoulder and hip room. Leg room was most impressive, front and back. Felt completely comfortable in either row, with a minor exception of the second row cushion being a tish low. No worries, the footwell under the front seat allows for a natural sitting position in the rear and 4 people will by nicely comfy at any time in this Jeep. Actually there is not much interior room difference between the Cherokee and Renegade (They actually are on different platforms). I would totally be ok taking a long road trip in this vehicle, sitting in either the front or back. The cargo area is not huge, but not small. Similar to an outlander Sport or the Previous Compass. The interior as a whole is quite well done for having to look 'Jeep' and sell at the low price points. There are some neat details in there in a few spots and overall fits in quite well with the idea of the brand. The Renegade is on the Fiat 500L or X platform (hope it does not have the 500L's reliability rap), and so you can tell why it has similar room and elements in the dash are in similar spots. But there is no way at all you can tell from looking out over the hood. The Jeep has a very blocky and chunk look out the hood and again it fits in with the Jeep karma. Hope to get test drives very soon. I still am more of a sedan guy, but i am intrigued by the 1.4 turbo plus stick in FWD. I know the mpg is a few off the Trax but it is still good for a tall box and to able to shift by one self would be interesting. But i will look into the auto as well, since I am kind of getting tired of shift myself for awhile. The turbo lag on the 500L freaked me out; it should be interesting to see if that is fixed on the Renegade. I think overall the personality of this smaller box vehicle has the potential to be a mainstream hit but also cut into the cult class of vehicles like the Mini Countryman, Juke, etc. I also think it stacks up well to fight off all the likes of Trax, CX-3, HRV, etc that will storm the market soon. Myself after sitting in this Jeep I don't think i would ever have any more interest in the Trax. Since it also feels more spacious than an Escape, I think it may compete a bit with the likes of those, the CX-5, others in that realm as well. I think this thing will be a huge seller to women. Should be interesting to see how it does but i predict it will do quite well. And from checking it out, I believe it will be a really functional vehicle with good space in a small package. And despite the cute look, it still has Jeep going on......Good price and not too bad mpg either. Good job Jeep.
