Encyclopedia Brown Just thought I'd share this with everyone. I was going through some of my old things and decided to look up one of the books I read as a boy. I don't quite remember this story though. By the way, this is the 6th link you get when googling encyclopedia brown.

I honestly don't blame the Japanese government for doing what's in the best interest of their economy, who could that's the purpose of the government. I think the real question is why OUR government does not take actions to protect and enrich OUR economy.

2 things. 1. The HHR is a nice vehicle. It is competent and will do very well in the market place. No one is suprised that it is being called Chevy's PT cruiser though. 2. Bad reviews will continue to be forthcoming, if GM continues to market it as a young persons hot rod wagon. If they drop the GXP engine in and slap an SS badge on it, they can get away with it. Until then it should be marketed as a great grocery getter.

I recently read an article in Time Magazine about Apple Computer. Here is an excerpt that I think describes what is really killing GM right now. (Talking about the cool new iPods and iMac G5) That is cool stuff. So, where does it all come from? Ask apple CEO Steve Jobs about it, and he'll tell you an instructive little story. Call it the parable of the concept car. "Here's what you find at a lot of companies," he says, kicking back in a conference room at Apples's gleaming white Silicon Valley headquarters, which looks something like a cross between an Ivy League university and an iPod. "You know how you see a show car, and it's really cool, and then FOUR years later you see the production car and it sucks? And you go, What happened? THey had it! They had it in hte palm of their hands! They grabbed DEFEAT from the jaws of victory! "What happened was the designers came up with this really great idea. Then they take it to the engineers, and the engineers go, 'Nah, we can't do that. That's impossible.' And so it gets alot worse. Then they take it to the manufacturing people and they go, 'We can't build that!' And it gets a lot worse." When Jobs took up his present position at Apple in 1997, that's the situation he found. He and Jonathan Ive, head of design, came up with the original iMac, a candy-colored computer merged with a cathode-ray tube that, at the time, looked like nothing anybody had seen outside of a Jetsons cartoon. "Sure enough," Jobs recalls, "when we took it to the engineers, they said, 'Oh.' And they came up with 38 reasons. And I said, 'No, no, we're doing this.' And they said, 'Well, why?' And I said, 'Because I'm the CEO, and I think it can be done.' And so they kind of begrudgingly did it. But then it was a big hit." Sound familiar? GM is always bringing out kick ass concepts and then blame it on engineering and manufacturing when the junk gets to the street. Look at the Solstice though. They had a beautiful design and everybody loved it. Bob Lutz probably had engineers, accounting and manufacturing say it "Can't be done." I'm sure he said though, "No we're doing this, Make it happen." And look how AMAZING the car is doing. GM's biggest problem isn't healthcare of Toyota. GM's biggest problem is they leadership bends to the will of their subordinates. GM's leadership needs to lead and make things happen. If GM had brought the G6 out looking like the showcar it would be on the frontpage of every mag and probably named Car of the Year. Instead it's a dog with a joke of an interior. Perhaps a bankruptcy and new board would be a good idea?

Ford And Wagoner's GM Battle For Top Sales Spot
network engineer replied to a topic in General Motors
heh. I meant to respond to wildmanjoe's comment. Frankly, though, I agree with FOG. GM and Ford should give a crap about each other. They should be determined to smoke Toyota together, even if it means that one or the other has to loose focus of being the #1 american car manufacturer. -
Ford And Wagoner's GM Battle For Top Sales Spot

I can't see any other way for GM to get rid of the remaining 2005 vehicle inventory. GM has many cars that are as good as the competition, some are better. Other manufacturer's, however, have better reputations and are continuing to conquest sales. GM is making a mistake, by bringing back incentives. They need to deal with the initial shock and get back to selling cars on their merrits not on their cheap price. -
Ford And Wagoner's GM Battle For Top Sales Spot

Setting agressive sales targets is nice. Achieving them is great. With the awesome new fusion and Milan, Ford just may have what it takes to get those 12000 cars back. -
Better yet.... Don't steal.

Another analyst predicting Toyota to be #1
network engineer replied to gmcbob's topic in General Motors
Not too far fetched. Tracinda, installs a director on the board. Kekorian sells off GMAC and reaps a huge dividend on his stock. Without GMAC GM quickly becomes unprofitable, Toyota steps in to "rescue" GM. Toyota purchases a controlling (51% including kekorians 10% )interest in GM stock. Toyota essentially owns GM. Could very well happen. -
Hopefully the entire board will be gone and much of middle management. There is still too much bureaucracy at GM.

So if I am an artist and painted a painting that GM wanted to use in a print ad and I said now, then GM hired some other artist to make a half assed copy and used it in the print ad, I wouldn't have a write to expect GM to knock it off. And to punish them by suing them? He's not in it for the money he's in it for GM trying to make money off of counterfeiting his music. I hope he wins.

2007 Chevrolet Tahoe Pics and Information
network engineer replied to Northstar's topic in Chevrolet
I don't think GM went as far with this interior as Ford did with the F150. Wait for the reviews, they'll crucify all the plastic. I mean, what's up with the big wall of grey plastic in the midst of that wood. I seriously don't understand doing that. It would cost like what, an extra $100 a vehicle to put wood or metal faceplates on the center stack?! -
Secret weponry. I believe in exterrestrial inteligence, but I find it unlikely that an alien civilization could travel the great distance to our galaxy. We do know that the f17 and the b2 were both tested there, as well as the f22. I'm willing to bet that we have some sort of aircraft that travels by distorting electro magnetic fields.

Im waiting for the head to head comparo. Then we'll know for sure. I'd like to see the Z06 vs GT vs S7. An American super car shootout!

That would imply that teperature increases are centered around urban areas and that areas that are rural have seen no increase in temperature or actual decreases in temperature. Do the US and World geological surveys support this? Yes. The earth reguarly heats and cools. Currently there is no evidence that the earth is doing anything other than what is normal.

Since the 1950's class 3 though 5 hurricains have decreased in frequency. Glaciers in Green Land are actually growing and the average temperature over the last 100 years has risen less than 1 degree. If this is the cause of global warming then the only danger, is that there are less headlines for the media to cover.

First, I love the fast reply box. Next, the PS3 will come fully equipped. No half assed missing all the nice features version like the Xbox 360. Secondly, the games for ALL next generation consoles should be about $59. Not a bad price really, when you consider that a movie costs about $10 and lasts 2 hours. The games typically last 20 - 30 hours. That's a much better value. Plus the cost of producing games has risen dramatically.

This game is amazing in appearance. Like all of the upcoming PS3 games shown at E3, we were blown away. Gran Truismo 5 looks to provide a truly GT racing experience, right down to pitting for fuel and tires. I can't wait to get my hands on this game! Who here is looking forward to the new PS3 and the new GT5 game? Gran Turismo 5 Preview
