GM announced 2000 job cuts today. What shocked me was reading Cobalt production dropped from 21,000 in June to 13,000 in December. Maybe GM should look into pushing up the introduction of the Cruze.

GM seemed to think that Saturn could be Oldsmobile. They moved Saturn up market into Oldsmobile's price range, gave it a line up of models that could fit just as easy into the Oldsmobile customers garage, but they forgot one thing: Brand loyalty: Saturn owners bought small cars with good fuel efficiency and bought into the whole cheesy Saturn family reunion / no haggle price/ different kind of company thing. Oldsmobile owners wanted Oldsmobiles: Big powerful, technologically advanced cars (Toronado/Aurora/Delta 88) that represented the middle class American dream. Now Oldsmobile is dead and buried, and Saturn has lost its way in being an Oldsmobile wanna-be. GM: You killed the Oldsmobile, which means that Buick/Pontiac/Chevy no longer need a 4th twin to everything they build. Why do we have Aura/Outlook/etc when they are neither Saturns nor apparently needed?

I dont understand why GM builds another SUV yet the compact cars are still more then a year away.

When we bought our Pontiac in Dec 2007 from a BPG Dealer, I talked to the sales guy for a while. He said: 1. Buick needs a modern Skylark for people who want Buick luxury but not Buick size. 2. The Lucerne and Lacrosse are too close in size and price making it hard to promote one over the other. 3. The Enclave and Acadia are the best thing since sliced bread. 4. People don't realize how much General Motors has changed. 5. GM needs better ads. -

General Motors did here what it has done wrong for 35 years. They did something wrong by not doing enough testing or not caring enough when developing these trucks. General Motors sells these trucks to "soft roaders" as well as contractors, etc for large amounts of money. Maybe someone working for a construction company who is only driving this thing as a company/work truck might not care, but as a private consumer if I had just spent 30, 40, 50, or 60+ thousand dollars on any automobile I would not accept "its normal" for an answer. The article could have been written like this: General Motors continues its industry leading position of disappointing customers with newest full sized trucks. GM says "we just build/develop/and market the thing, we don't know why it does this". According to GM the real problem is customers who need to just get over it and live with an annoyance in their brand new car. GM says "Get over it, that Tahoe was only $53,000". If General Motors has enough money to bring me such amazing product as the Pontiac G3 and Chevrolet Aveo, they have enough money/resources/etc to design a power steering system that works in full sized 4X4 trucks. -

There are some days I wonder if GM is really worth saving, after reading that statement, today is one of those days. There is no excuse for this. Who has never used the brakes and steering wheel at the same time? I guess GM engineers don't park their cars or possibly never drive them period. Or maybe GM is just trying to find out how many people it can piss off before it declares bankruptcy? -

Smell that,.....I think the Honda Fit just crapped itself. Someone at GM is actually thinking, as long as we don't get a Pontiac version I'll be happy. P.S Make it in the United States because after getting billions in Federal loans, building it any where else could become a PR nightmare.

See you didn't get tricked, its the bureaucratic, red tap wrapped GM that we all love. As a side note, your angry that Pontiac is not going to build the G8 ST, imagine how I feel when I drive buy the local Oldsmobile dealership...o wait, they sell Saturns now. This isn't something that was done because GM was looking to play a mean trick, its hard to build specialty models when your entire company is on it's knees. What we all want is a strong GM because a strong GM can build El Caminos, convertible Buicks, and all of the other ridiculous things we want (well I want those two, I'm sure others do too). For GM to do that they need to get the Impala/LaCrosse/Cobalt/etc customers back into the showrooms with great new products for the average consumer. Once they are making money again, we can get fun cars.

I have said it before, Ford's new CEO is a modern Lee Iacocca. He is right sizing the company for actual sales, and is focusing on the core products (Fusion, Milan, Mustang). GM trys to be something for everyone and in doing so makes its self nothing for no one. I recently read that Ford is going to stop building the Sable. It took them 20 years, but they finally figured you don't need a Taurus and Sable when everyone knows they are the same car and they already have the great Milan sitting next to it for young people and the ancient Grand Marquis in the show room for those old enough to have been passengers on the Titanic. What does GM do? We have mid-sized Impala, Malibu, G6, Aura, and LaCrosse. Of the 5 only 1 offers a coupe model, only 2 offer hybrid models (which don't sell in part due to their small fuel economy gains). At the same time the Cobalt/G5 are getting their rear ends handed to them in the sales charts by most and their replacement is still too far away. Things keep going the way they are, I might have to trade in my GM hat for a Ford one?!

I think for GM this was an obvious decision. The last thing they need to show Congress should they need more help in the future is the newest addition to the Pontiac range: A V8 truck with limited sales. This is going to be the first of many cuts made at Pontiac. I see the future of Pontiac as G8 and Solstice only with the possibility of a performance coupe in the future, non of the other models including the ST (I voted to call it the Judge last year on Pontiac's website) G6, G5, and G3 do not fit the model GM has for Pontiac. Who knows, since GMC is one of the "core" brands, we may see this concept again.

They need to get Lee Iacocca out there ASAP along with Bob Nardelli and put a human face back on Chrysler. People trusted Iacocca and those commercials of the Chairman walking down the assembly line worked. -
I dont understand how GM can put it into production there, but cant get it into Lordstown until 2010?

My Aurora is 45.06 yrs old (90,183/2001) My Cutlass is 41.81 years old (83,200/1985) My Delta 88 was 169.4 years old (336,910/1988) damn! Wow the Cutlass Ciera is younger then the Aurora.

I hope it goes to someone who appreciates what they have, keeping this car on the road is much like keeping a Packard or anyo ther bygone car on the road. Its preserving a piece of Americana that will never come back.

Why does the public seem to accept GM as too big to fall, but hate Chrysler? I think the ad is good as long as the cost of doing such an ad is kept very cheep. Just print it in a few national news papers in the Sunday edition. Some of the postings on Chrysler's blog do make sense, a press conference would be free advertising for them. -
