Texas board adopts new social studies curriculum
Brougham-Holiday replied to Intrepidation's topic in The Lounge
My school has a facebook page for history majors, we have been discussing this recently (I'm a History/Education major working to become a Social Studies teacher). I have a conservative bias but this is unbelievable. How can you teach American history and ignore the separation of church and state or down play Jefferson because you don't think he is conservative/religious enough? -
Unfortunately this is why so many people thing all conservatives a nuts. I actually sent this clip to the German history professor at my school, its very well done.

I just noticed on the Buick website (Heritage page) a typo. http://www.buick.com/history/ How long is a centry? LOL

I went to the show last Sat as I have for 5 of the last 6 years (2005, 06, 08, 09, 10). GM's display was far better than last year (not like it was hard to top last years pathetic display). For products, most consumers hadn't yet seen the Regal/GS, Cruze, CTS coupe, or CTS Wagon. I walked away from the show thinking that for the first time I was proud of the GM products they had. My 1st autoshow in 2005 GM had the old Deville, LeSabre, Grand Am, Cavalier...you get the picture. In 2005 it seemed like everything GM had on the display was already past its expiration date. I was very happy to see the public was interested at the GM displays. Even the Buick displays, which is typically dead had a crowd around the Lacrosse and Regal GS.

I'm looking for power window parts for a 1988 Olds 98 (Touring Sedan). I need everything (regulator, etc) in working condition. If possible I would like to purchase the entire door! These parts are for the front driver side door and must be in working condition from a car with power windows. I'm in West Haven, CT. If your parting out one of these cars or if you pass by one in the junk yard please let me know. Respond to this posting or email me at [email protected] . Thanks!

Which brand new car made the biggest impression on you?

I've been referring to Toyota's issues as GM syndrome. When people keep patting you on the back even after you start going down hill, it makes it very hard to see just how bad things have gotten until you finally screw up big time.

The irony here is wonderful. And I though Connecticut was safe.....I guess not.

Better make sure whatever it is that your brother picks it out on his own. My parents found that out the hard way when they got my brother a nice 01 Regal LS w/ gran touring package and leather. Its mint with 90k miles (had 70k when he got it) and he hates it. Everyday we have to hear how much he hate the Buick because he wants something sporty. In short: guide him, don't push him....and good luck!

Available models include; CXL 4GL69 Base and CXL 4GK69 Turbo (Turbo not available until Q3 of 2010) MMMMMMMMhhhhhhmmmmm Turbo!

I get that, but Chrysler should have used this as an opportunity to create more viability for the Ram brand (ex sponsor them or something) and not come off as being jerks. No matter what the law says, at the end of the day a lot of people, myself included, look at this and think wow what a way to spend my bailout money, sending your legal team after a bunch of high school kids. I bet a lot of those kids parent have bought their last Caravan.

Update: There isn't any way the PR guys at Chrysler can spin this, they took action against a public high school. Since the high school isn't commercial, what the hell do they care? If anything its almost like free advertising for Dodge, maybe instead of busting stones, Chrysler could have donated to the school baseball team or something to actually improve their image. It could have been worse though, Chrysler could have donated a bunch of Sebrings to torture the people into changing the logo.

Interactive Review: 2010 GMC Acadia SLT-2
Brougham-Holiday replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Reviews
How is the build quality, and rattles or misaligned plastic? Has anyone one at a gas station/parking garage/etc asked out about it yet (ie does it turn heads)? -
This pissed me off, I've never been to this school, but the idea that a company which is only surviving because these kids parents helped finance Chryslers survival only to have Chrysler turn around and screw them is unbelievable. Maybe Chrysler should spend more time trying to figure out why no one buys their cars and less time beating up on a public school. Ahh I feel better now.

Good companies continue to invest in research and technology during the bad times so they have a better shot of returning to the good times. Is this any different than a nation? I don't pretend to be an accountant but there must be some other place in the budget where a few sweet deals and pork projects can be cut to keep NASA afloat.

NOAA is investigating this as a possible case of unintended accumulation.

Help me... Help a good friend... 1st Update!

You can't blame someone for not wanting to replace a car they had issues with with another car of the same make. Most people don't follow the car industry and have no idea that an Impala and Cobalt are totally different while a Lucerne and DTS are one in the same. Its no different then if you went to a store, bought a product, felt like you got screwed and vowed never to shop there again. It takes years of hard work to change perception, and that work is one the part of the automakers, not the consumer. -
I did something totally crazy....

The EGR was no good, and they cleaned the intake and throttle plates. The brake leak was caused by the previous owner overfilling the master cylinder and they replaced the rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders. -

I think a good tune up is in order for the 98. Out side of that, the engine is very strong and the transmission is very smooth. As far as the brakes, it leaking from the side of the cylinder. I was driving when the brake light came on (the abs light has been on) and the brakes started to gradually loose their strength. I then noticed smoke from the engine and found that power brake fluid was leaking out. I'm going to call the mechanic in the morning and make an appointment. At least I have the Aurora to drive for a little (how ironic :-D). -

Update: I've got two issues right now with the 98: 1. The master cylinder is leaking badly. 2. Sometimes when I come to a stop or when I let the car idle it shakes and seems like its going to stall (but it doesn't). -
If this this close to the production version we are going to see either a. sales flop because this car does nothing the DTS couldn't do, but the DTS looks more like a Cadillac, b. a major re-skin because of poor public reaction, c. a half hearted re-skin to try and save the car. Toss on a set of white walls and its clear Cadillac made a retro 86 FWD Fleetwood/DeVille.
