GM announces big changes to deal with higher gas prices
Brougham-Holiday replied to 2QuickZ's's topic in General Motors
GM needs to dump Hummer and put that money into Pontiac/Buick/GMC/Saturn, All Hummer has done is make GM seem stuck in the past. -
I know of 3 people who wanted to replace their Oldsmobiles with new ones (94 Cutlass Supreme, and 2 Eighty Eights) but are unable to because there are no new Oldsmobiles. By the way my neighbor just replaced his Oldsmobile (Silhouette van)...with a Toyota. GM why not give an Aveo to Saturn instead of Pontiac as fuel economy would fit them much more then Pontiac.

Honda Presents A Grown-Up Jazz/Fit, The Freed Minivan
Brougham-Holiday replied to Polish_Kris's topic in Honda
Somehow Honda manages to make its cars look worse every year, maybe next year they can add a cheep black plastic grille to the Accord, o wait, they did that already. -
In New Haven today I saw a nice red 90's Cutlass Supreme Convert with a black top.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the last thing GM needs is to water down the performance division at a time when Pontiac is looking so good. I don't want a 2009 T1000 or Deawoo Lemans or G3 or whatever its called, lets get a DI 4 cyl for the G5 GT or add a stick shift option for all G8 models, not this crap!

Oldsmobile: I grew up in a GM family where people had everything from Chevettes to Cadillacs. Oldsmobile was my first car, I now have 3 of them. I love Oldsmobile for the interior design and comfort as well as the quality we have grown to love in our Olds over the years. Funny thing is Buick is the red headed step child in our family, everyones had one and they were always unloved. I also loved the more traditional style of the Olds models, and the way they always felt like they were carved out of a single piece of stone.

Introducing "C&G Wants to Know"
Brougham-Holiday replied to z28luvr01's topic in Site News and Feedback
1. GM should stop confusing its customers with new names every time it redesigns a car. Customers have faith in names they remember. Why wasn't the G8 called the Bonneville? Bonneville has a performance heritage, as well as instant name recognition. The G_ naming of Pontiac just confuses the customers, what makes it worse is you can have a G5 cost more then a G6, and a G6 cost more then a G8 which can make keeping the models in order hard for new customers. Lets see : the G8 become Bonneville, the G6 become Grand Prix (2dr/vert)or Catalina(4dr), and the G5 become the LeMans/Tempest Cadillac needs to go back to the Deville name, its instant recognition is priceless, and its image can be saved. DTS/STS/CTS customers don't get it. If you spend Cadillac money, people shouldn't have to explain what the hell a _T_ is . 2. Buick needs a flagship sedan that slots above the Lucerne, something for those who can afford a Cadillac but want a more classic look. V8 or DI V6 only and 6 speed auto. 3. The Saturn line needs more advertising dollars, many people don't even know it exist. The current ads are lost in a sea of me too ads in every magazine or during every commercial break, lets see something along the lines of the Malibu in terms of ads, the Outlook is all but invisible, its time to get this thing out there,m what about an Oprah/G6 type thing for Saturn? 4. Cobalt/G5 need serious updates, they are looking old and bland next to the Civic/Sentra/Lancer competition. Whats up with the G5 having 2 different plastic hubcaps available, its a Pontiac, give it alloys standard! There is nothing young or hip about plastic wheels. 5. Pontiac needs the same attention for its interiors as the other divisions have gotten, Pontiac has the worst of all GM interiors including the new G8 which is sadly plastic everywhere you touch. 6. Turn Hummer into an offshoot of GMC, in the days ahead huge gas loving SUV's are as out as vinyl roofs, lets make Hummer a part of GMC with maybe 1 or 2 models. A small Wrangler type model, and the larger H3, no trucks, thats GMCs area. 7. Combine SAAB USA with Buick, a Buick-Saab like Lincoln-Mercury or Chrysler-Plymouth could work very well. 8. -
The biggest problem with the G8 is the interior which surprised me (along with my brother and his girlfriend) at just how cheep it looked for a 25-30k dollar car. Pontiac needs to update the 1980's looking red graphics as well as replace some of that plastic inside. The new GT G8 looks far cheaper inside then my 7 year old Oldsmobile Aurora.

Jerry Flint on Saturn: Why No Blastoff?
Brougham-Holiday replied to wildcat's topic in Heritage Marques
Maybe if more people knew Saturn existed things would be better. GM should also allow its divisions to run independent like they did pre 1985. -
The sport models were ES sedan and GT coupe, then the went to the International series.
-
I saw this a few months ago, I hope they get it running but don't fully restore it. This car is an amazing example of the rich Oldsmobile history that GM seems to have forgotten. I don't think we'll ever see a $1.6 million Saturn.
-
They also need to have some style, the current Cobalt/G5 get lost in the sea of me too small cars, lets get something that catches your eye. Honda made the new Civic look wild (love it or hate it) and I see them everywhere except rental car lots. They also need to be careful that they don't hand Chevrolet Pontiac's performance (like the current Cobalt SS which is far better then Pontiac's G5 GT).

My local B-P-G dealer is closing May 30
Brougham-Holiday replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in The Lounge
Same things been happening around here. Crabtree Cadillac-Olds is gone, Mauro Motors (a Buick.Pont/GMC dealer) now only sells BMW/M-B, Cherney Pontiac closed, and the local Pontiac-Nissan dealer sold its franchise to Milford Buick Pontiac GMC (where we bought our Pontiac) last year. -
Real World G6 Fuel Economy
Brougham-Holiday replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in Heritage Marques
Our 2007 3.5L V6 4 dr gets low to mid 20's most of the time. The car does 90% around town driving, but my dad (who drives it most of the time) thinks fast is over 35mph anywhere lol. Its much better then my Aurora with the 3.5. -
Great! I just hope that America's dislike of the wagon won't hurt this beauty's sales!

And the Century that LaX replaced was even worse, doesn't make the LaX a work of art. This is going to be just another "nice" car, and once the production model reaches show rooms with smaller wheels and decontented base models, its going to get lost even further. The sweep line is nice, but one line isn't enough to take on the competition, though Buick seems to think being a look alike will. Whether Buick is copying Mercury and just selling fancy lesser models (Chevrolet v Fords) or Buick is copying the Japs building luxury cars without presence, it seems like Business as usual at Buick. I'm a hard core Buick fan, but I'm very disappointed in what Buick has given us.

Jeep Liberty could face recall: Government upgrades investigation into SUV

The saddest part is this great heritage is going to be lost on future generations much like that of Packard.
-
Yes 1000000000% in agreement here, I feel like they started with a great car (those sketches we saw last month were great) and then sent the plans to Toyota to water them down enough so all the original emotion was lost.

"When you trade in, trade up to an Olds." I love it!
-
Its a nice car, but I feel its too bland to be a Buick. After a few years its going to blend into the road in a way the Buicks of the past (Riviera, Skylark) never did. I hope it doesn't look so short in person because it looks like they made a dressed up compact car. I must admit I'm a traditionalist in terms of automotive style, but I don't see how this can be considered nearly as beautiful as the CTS or Enclave.

The current XLR-V is a car I would sell my soul for, this isn't.
