  2. Are you sure? I don't think they are even broken in correctly. Someone drives it off the lot (someone like 68) when it's brand spanking new and puts it through the paces. Also, I rarely report any malfunctions to the agency upon return unless it impacts the safe operation of the vehicle. For someone on a budget, yes. For someone else who plans to keep it a long time, I'd say no.

    Hello?

Yeah, Ocn, but first Farkas has to check if there's a Chili's around. Hehehe. :AH-HA_wink: WELCOME. Actually, I have seen your name in the active users section often. The only reason it stood out is because there was a girl in some of my college classes with that last name. Do you have relatives in Southern California? ENJOY.

  12. To me, the first is the big obnoxious Dodge Ram truck....I typically dislike anyone who drives one of those. My story: We recycle cans, bottles and plastic at work. We put the aluminum cans in a separate bin for one chick, Jeri, who collects them for a good cause. The bin sits in the break room. One morning I walk into the break room. Another co-worker and Jeri are by the coffee pot. I then go over to the recycle bins. I open up the one with the aluminum cans and it appears to be near full. I yell over to Jeri: "Hey, Jeri, you've got cans." The other guy laughed. Let's just say Jeri is very chesty.

  15. Boys, stop! Buckets or Bench w/ column shift: have you looked at the overall shape/contours of the seating in this car? It sucks. The contours, angles and bolstering should be a little more uptown given that this is currently the premium Buick. Sorry, I too am a 3800 as a base-line defender. A bullet-proof powerplant combined with Buick quality are a good match. How many mid-80s FWD PAs and LeSabres (obviously 3800 equipped) do you still see running around? Many! However, I do agree that "Premium American Motorcars" aptly desribes what Buick is and should aspire to, followed only by the much older tag line "Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?"
  16. Very funny. Hahaha. Actually, you, razoredge and a couple of others are people I would want to meet that don't fit into the list. The list was sort of an overall "broadbrush."
  17. TIME OUT! If your reserved category is gone, you are to be upgraded for free...even if it means the most expensive Cadillac DTS or Escalade sitting around. I've never had that happen. I've been upgraded rather frequently as a result of out of stock. One time in Vegas, my would-be Stratus became a Grand Cherokee with all the bells and whistles. In fact, they once HAD the category I needed - midsize. It was a Malibu Maxx. It also was missing the canvas cover over the rear. I complained, saying I had luggage that would be visible. I complained enough that they upgraded me to the next category with a legitimate trunk. You needed to complain to the headquarters. Should get you some kind of reprieve/rebate on your next rental.

  19. OK, getting off the subject of crabs, I'd like to meet quite a few people on the board but at the top of my list would be: - the Californians on the board - the Floridians on the board - all the WOPs on the board - the Toronto folks on the board - any architect* or architecture student on the board - anybody on the board who speaks Italian, Spanish or Portuguese though there are other individuals who don't fit into this list... * that could be scary, I'd have to meet Reg  - j/k Reg, you're my buddy...perverted and all.
  20. Canadians are EXPERTS at levying taxes, but car rental surcharges are nuts everywhere. Europe/Italy is FAR WORSE. BTW, it's Robert or Bob.

  22. Hey, Riv, it is mandated by the states/counties/municipalities. No kidding. One usually encounters the following in some jurisdictions: (1) sales tax, (2) vehicle license fee, (3) concession recovery fee, (4) frequent flyer surcharge, and 1 or 2 more so that the aggregate amounts to the tune of 25 to 40 % of the base rental charge. Only in California, for some reason, is there just the sales tax, which blows my mind because the state has a host of other taxes. Obviously, the lawmakers felt that apportioning the airport concession to the renters was not cool. There's no getting around it depending on where you rent. In the Seattle area, rental cars were heaped with a stadium levy! I couldn't believe it! How the hell does a casual renter from the other side of the country benefit from the Seahawks and/or Mariner's new stadium? Therefore, in those locations that have these taxes, the best protection is to go for the low base rate since most of these surcharges will function as a percentage of that rate. And don't forget to mention AAA or Costco memberships if you have those.
