  1. Happy birthday, Enz, and welcome back. After all, you were the instigator of the current "Pictures" thread. Hope UNC is treating you right. Enjoy your day!
  2. What would power such a sled (the Impala) in its base form? Will it be a 3500 VVT V6 facing forward hooked up to a 6-speed automatic trans? I like the concept of this move from the standpoint of a much more "opened up" engine bay. I don't live in Buffalo or Minneapolis, so the extra traction is a non-issue and RWD is so much easier on brakes because of the weight distribution. Also, hopefully a better looking MC will tag along for the ride in RWD form...is that the plan?

  4. I had no clue you were a NYC person at all! And I certainly did not know that Brooklyn College looked so residential. People out West have no clue that it is possible to live in Brooklyn, Queens and ESPECIALLY Staten Island and have a front yard and a back yard. Our family had acquaintances that lived in Forest Hills (Queens) and had/have a gorgeous house. Where's Gotham, anyway?

  6. I agree. But it is efficient. And during cold weather, it is especially efficient. During summer, especially out West with the dry heat, doing stuff outside to stay healthy and in shape is awesome. If I recall living in the East, this is tougher when it's real humid. Pantho, where have you been? Your posting isn't as constant. Everything cool?

  8. I belong to 24-Hour Fitness. When I lived in the Pac. N.W., I belonged to Bally's. I still keep the Bally's membership (real, real cheap at this point) in case of a relocation so I don't have to pay the initiation dues. Also, if I visit my Mom up north or go to So. Cal., I can still use Bally's. Going to the gym is the greatest thing. Am I going now? No. With my work schedule and with night classes, good luck. At any rate, 24-Hour Fitness can be a little intense with its music, neon lighting and college-kid atmosphere. I prefer a quieter gym but the one I looked at that fit the criteria was $ 64 a month and did not have "chain" privileges. Also, most 24-Hour Fitnesses really are open 24 hours-- some are not because they can't afford to be. I'm sure a lot of the West Coast people on the board belong to 24-Hour Fitness. I guess I should consider myself fortunate that, given my leanings toward restaurants and drive-throughs, I am only 12 to 15 above my ideal weight. When I get back into it, I can drop that in about 1.5 to 2 months. Seriously, if you can go 6 days a week, do the following: Alternate 3 days - upper body on machines, about 25 to 30 minutes on the elliptical or similar Alternate 3 days - lower body on machines, ditto on elliptical or similar Take one day off and veg / pig out I do not like free weights - the machines offer more discipline from incorrect movements There is a lot of truth about endorphins and what that does to keep you chipper and out of a depressive mode. I feel great and upbeat when I go to the gym regularly, unfortunately there is no way I can squeeze all this in without having a meltdown. I will resume in mid-December. JUST DO IT.
  9. GOOD GAWD! I think I took that same picture from that viewpoint about 10 times. That hotel and that backdrop are out of this world. Thanks for the memory.

  15. Breathtaking...makes me homesick for my birthplace in the southern part of the state...but thinking about the hassles of living there....oh well....
  16. Lake Sherwood used to be unspoiled with nothing around it. I am actually sorry it had to be developed. I loved the fact that "the country" was so close by. Also, some of these photos are touched up ( ) - should be more brown than green.
  17. I know my parents had some stuff with Principal Groupd in DSM. Gold leafed domes are cool, without a doubt. Did you like your internship there?
  18. You are not alone in liking to look at cities...do you like to look at maps of them, too, to see how they are laid out? I think I could pick out most cities if unlabeled just by their layout of major arteries and natural features such as rivers. I like the engineering building. Who did it?
  19. Even I have taken this picture(!)...though a little bit further up and closer to the Saddledome. I liked that Calgary is closer to Banff and the Rockies. It's also probably a little warmer. And I found a Greek restaurant that had a lunch buffet. For Albertans, what are the pros and cons of Edmonton/Calgary? I am sure they are viewed as rivals.
  20. Never saw this view, probably because I never went to the east of downtown. Stratchona and the West Ed Mall and the Royal Fork Buffet ( ) are to the west of downtown.I drove over this bridge a lot, I think. This is probably why I never saw any waterfalls. I was there in November 2004. It was chilly. I fear how cold it could actually get.

  24. I think that's what happened in our household. I've seen it happen in others. The incoming spouse feels threatened by any ties and tries to pull the sibling away from their family members, even if it means being a troublemaking bitch or bastard.
  25. I think I've run this one before, but we have quite a few new people.Birth order is interesting and actually regarded as being somewhat psychologically valid. That being said, where are you in the birth order, how many kids are there and what are the genders of those older and younger than you? Also, which ones do you get along and not get along with? My answer: I'm the youngest of 2 - same parents for both - oldest is a brother. Do not get along with him (have not spoken with him since 1995, or thereabouts).
