  3. You always appear to be knowledgeable. On GM systems, how does this work? Isn't it an assembly up in the front of the engine, near the pulleys, that acts as the phaser....I mean, its just a spherical disc or gear with teeth/grooves that makes this happen. Now, is the electronic system that runs this tied into the engine management system such that, if this thing were to start acting goofy, it has a fail-safe, limp-home mode where the engine still functions as it needs to but the valve lift falls back to a "baseline" as in an engine that did not have this? I understand the concept. I just don't understand what mechanical items make the valve lift duration change? Is it really that necessary for improved performance and efficiency? Driving Chevy products with pre-VVT engines and post-VVT engines, I can't tell THAT much difference.

I am afraid to ask who weighs more. Care to share?
  8. I was thinking about this today. Her baby daughter might benefit -- she will have oodles of money and won't have to be raised by Anna Nicole. Is that so bad?

    MOMS

Well put. This usonia guy is smart. PB, you don't need to tell her anything and it sounds like she's prying in a way. All it will probably do is set her imagination going and what's the point in that? For example, I don't want to know about my friends' sexual foibles - straight, gay... or anything in between, for that matter. That's none of my business and not what our friendship is based on. If they feel compelled to tell me, I will listen. But, generally, it's not an interesting subject.

  18. Happy birthday, guys! Don't know of any Feb. 9 celebs but I know of a big Feb. 9 event! The big Sylmar (LA) quake that preceded the big Northridge (LA) 1994 quake. Feb. 9 means earthquake to me and being woken up by it. Enjoy your day!
  19. I saw Colorado and Canyon and thought "mountain lions and rattlesnakes"...no thanks. Sorry, I misunderstood the intent. The W-body lives !
  20. I once lit a fart at a religious retreat which counted for 20% of my Ethics class at my religiously affiliated undergraduate college. I could see the flame shoot out and smelled the sulfuric aroma. Does that count? I've heard that could be dangerous. Me and the others in that room were laughing until we were crying.

    MOMS

My mother is Italian and therefore tends toward the neurotic. My brother will hang up on her or ignore her. Instead, I will scream at her and she then backs down. My Mom has certain fears and phobias that she tries to impart on me: gambling and flying. If I go to Las Vegas, she worries about me being in the casinos. I am the most risk averse person out there. Just look at my Regal! So then why? Two of her stupid brothers had gambling problems. I go to Las Vegas to sit by the hotel pool, go to buffets and possibly go to Lake Mead. Most times, I've never even parted with ANY money in the casinos. She also is afraid of flying. When I tell her I'm going to Europe or South America, she squirms "so you have to fly?" Well, duh. I then tell her the statistics espousing the safety of air travel. Because of her fear, when we were children, we had to go to Europe to see relatives by ship....3 days on Amtrak from LA to NY and then 7 days from NY to Italy...and the same again on the return. But my Dad was self-employed so he didn't care and he loved taking the ocean liner across the Atlantic.

  23. Haven't done any of that and I grew up in L.A. I wouldn't have even known where to get any of these things...you know, being a geeky A-student and all. Oh, well. Alcohol? I know that it doesn't count - I have probably have had less than 50 alcoholic drinks in my ENTIRE life. I get teased about this. It's not a religious conviction...it's just that I don't like the taste of anything alcoholic. Instead, I might have ended up in front of the judge for property related destructive mishaps perpetrated in my late teens - early 20s, but my friends and I never got caught. We can laugh about that now. I am not so sure drugs and alcohol would elicit the same comic response.

  25. I saw your birthday listed but I deferred to ocnblu to start the thread. Are you happy now, PB? Happy birthday!
