  1. For a sled with almost a quarter of a million miles, I still get the EPA sticker numbers which were 18 city and 28 highway. In fact, on the highway, if I baby it (60 to 65, no A/C and easy pedal), I can hit 29 or 30 mpg. I love getting good gas mileage. It makes me feel "civic minded."
  2. I think you know my beef with Lufthansa! In true Germanic "grundlich" fashion, they always wrestle my 1" inch over the limit carry-on from me such that I could have gone to Europe without checking bags. Alitalia and Air France, in a more Latin "domani/demain" fashion, look the other way. On a Lisbon to Munich to Catania flight, the chick ranted and raved about "der regulations" and I kept fighting back, so I ultimately carried my carry-on into the cabin with me. It turned out both flights were half empty. What a douche bag she was. I try to patronize Alitalia, Iberia, Air France or Aerolineas Argentinas over any more Nordic carrier (LH, SAS, etc.). Flying is supposed to be fun!
  3. I think you are right. Most of the orders are for freighters. However, I never turn down a ride on anybody's '47 across any pond. I do think that the 747-8-I is a more sensible big-sled in all-pax configuration than the Airbus 380.
  4. Brougham Holiday: You like those 3800s more than I do, it seems! On the subject, I took an evening MBA course that dealt with leadership and ethics. Lee Iacocca DID NOT make it as one of the excellent leaders in the history of corporate America. They thought so, initially, but he had no "staying power" in that he sold out....some investment decisions and such that were based on ego and personal interest (sports cars, wineries, etc.) rather than being complementary to Chrysler's best interests.
  5. For some reason, I would have assumed you were left handed, having started this thread. RIGHT HANDED, all the way...I have very good penmanship and printing that, when I try to use my left hand, looks like I stuck the pen up my ass and tried writing...that bad. Weird thing is, though, I have a high proportion of left-handed friends, given that they are a comparatively small segment of the population.
  6. short circuit
  7. Muy bueno! For the graduation and your child!
  8. and just wait for YOUR's to come around....it will be some of these:
  9. Yeah -- I saw that last night AFTER I made my post. Unbelievable. I think Americans may tread more lightly on Canada as a vacation destination as a result of this; that is, unless prices are adjusted a little bit.
  10. Maiden flight at Everett WA: February 9, 1969First commercial flight: January 22, 1970 - Pan American - "your" JFK airport to LHR You weren't even born yet, Z. The 747 concept just keeps getting mechanically and aesthetically better!
  11. margarine
  12. I lit a fart once...at a retreat for my Ethics class at a Catholic university, no less. You should have seen the "torch" that emanated from that region. Be careful !
  13. Yes, I see, but what are your thoughts on my concern for the engine modification? (Even around here, there are still 2006s lingering on lots)
  14. Bored from my flight down from PDX, I get onto C&G and it's the inimitable Pontiac Custom-S's birthday. Have a great one! Any plans? Any pranks?
  15. Except for the highly versatile Impala, the sales of other W-bodies are down. I notice that, much like a broken record. LOL. If so, why am I seeing stickers with $1,500 to $2,000 market value adjustment at some dealerships on these cars? They are not moving and they are looking for a "mark-up"? WAZZA MATTA U ???
  16. I was very happy to read about this. Evidently, Deutsche Lufthansa (der flying gestapo :AH-HA_wink: don't get me started) has signed orders for about a dozen new Boeing 747-800s. Others are placing orders mostly for the freighter version, but British and other Asian carriers may place some orders, as there is a historical trend to buy Boeing. That would be cool. And why not? The technology is known, the infrastructure is there and it's a beauty. The area where Boeing knows they have had to make strides is in economy, material weight and quietness of operation ("Quiet Tuning," anybody?). The ugly Airbus 380 is noticeably quieter than any '47s to date, judging from an article I read in the LA Times where people sitting on Sepulveda Blvd. as the AB 380 was approaching for its inaugural visit to LAX said it was fairly quiet. Also, the new 747 will still weigh under 1,000,000 pounds maximum take-off weight whereas the Airbus 380 exceeds that. The one change I see is the wing profile. It seems to sport the raked wing found on the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. That means that, as I sit in my favorite seat on the '47, I will no longer see the rearward sweep of the winglet. Such is life. God, I love that plane.
  17. Dude, do you EVER sleep (I'm 3 hours behind over on this side)? Are you moonlighting as a vampire?
  18. I'm still an undecided 'effin train wreck on this one! I'm still stuck on the same 'effin 3 cars!LaCrosse - as impeccably reliable as my Regal 3800 has been, shouldn't I go back? Grand Prix - trying to overlook the strapped in astronaut feeling and pinched headlights as it is the only normal price point GM brand that I haven't yet owned and, underneath it all, the mechanicals are the same as those of the LaCrosse Monte Carlo - ocnblu thinks I need to plunge into the last hurrah for the W-body coupe but I am still about the addition of VVT onto the 3.5 V6 and I seem to know more about it than the service advisors that I try to pump for information. I will have 6 weeks of sleeping on beaches in Italy, Spain and Portugal to think about it.
  19. There are 2 dealerships in Northern Cal that I have had service my car. The first was Roseville Olds-Buick in Roseville CA. They were stellar and very friendly. The guys who were working on my car in the service bays would always talk to me about cars and explain things very well. However, they capitulated into the chain set-up (somebody bought the franchise, evidently) and I did not like the new owners at all. One experience at the "chain" auto dealership and I did not go back. The other is Reliable Pontiac-Cadillac in Roseville CA. Not as exceptional as the Roseville Olds-Buick experience, but nevertheless good. Prices for routine service items seem to be in line, work is done in a timely manner and is apparently performed correctly. Incidentally, two Buick dealerships in the Portland area (Breslin-Wallace and Jim Weston) have always performed without fault. I rarely go to the dealer anymore, though. I go when I find a "special" for standard menu items such as a tune-up, a transmission fluid change and a coolant flush/refill.
  20. My palms sweat just reading that one. My uncle lives 9 or so miles west of the GWB. But, you made it. It could have been worse....you could have stalled on the Cross Bronx Expwy. at Jerome Avenue. I know that I once drove my first Cutlass Supreme with about 140 K out East and back to Cali with just one flat tire in south Georgia and I took it across the Cross Bronx; in fact, I went quite a ways out on L.I. with it, to the point that it actually got rural there but didn't know where I was, except for the AAA map that was with me. God, there was a diner on the Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream (South Shore) that had a cheesecake and huge portions of food that I still remember.
  21. I do not feel like a complete person. My best friend from college who now lives in Sandy Eggo said, "As much as you hang out in coffee places, you need a laptop." I think he's right. I will get around to it. Congrats, CARBIZ! So it was $ 2K CDN, eh? *trembling as I divide $ 2K by 1.08, the most pathetic exchange rate for us "colonials" that I recall*

  24. Well, I can always stereotype a little more and add excitement to the thread! I know how much you like that. Love you too, babe.
