  1. Damn, looks a lot like the Seattle area...no wonder all those Nordic types made a beeline for western Washington state where most of the natives look like their parents married their first cousins.
  2. I found it to be depressing despite being a well-crafted film...not a SINGLE character in it was minimally upbeat....all of the settings accentuated the bleakness, especially deserted streets with the wind howling and tumbleweeds moving across them.I think it was highly imprudent for a teacher to show a film carrying the R label (minimum age of 17) to 12 year olds. I think that the amount of the suit is ridiculous, as they all are. We live in such an 'effed up society where there is so much leniency in criminal matters and so much harshness in civil litigation. It's just plain 'effin wrong. (To think that the CFO from Enron is doing less than 10 years time for orchestrating the corporate crime of the century). Maybe she developed a crush on one of the two characters and felt "betrayed," as did their wives -- hence her trauma.
  3. Well, is he both a geek and an architect, reg, that could explain a thing or two about his marital status?
  4. P-C-S, you wear your hairiness like a "badge of honor" :AH-HA_wink: Seriously, I can laugh at the acne era because I wound up with a really clean complexion since my mid-20s...so it's cool.
  5. Golden Gate Bridge Joseph Strauss, vous le connais, n'est-ce pas?
  6. You mean you had a clear complexion at 17 !?
  7. Wow, great thread idea. Most are fairly unpretentious. Kucinich: yep, I could see that Hunter: hate the car (gas guzzler), love the "getting his money's worth" part
  8. When I lived in OR-WA, I went to Calgary and Banff. Beautiful city and beautiful resort. A lot of nice people, too, up in Alberta. What's that slice of freeway that runs from near Univ. of Calgary to just SW of downtown? Is that it? If so, I've been on it. Yeah, it was some narrow road...but it was in August, so I'm sure it would be bad when the weather is iffy.
  9. Never had one! Just a LOT of pepperoni on my face at the time!
  10. Oh, brother, can you think of ANYTHING else...sheez! My mother lives 580 miles north of me +/- and I have a final exam tomorrow night. I called her up this morning and wished her Happy Mother's Day.
  11. ...at least you went to it! I couldn't line up a date!

  13. Nice building...nice proportions...looks eclectic....I see some neo-classical, some Romanesque...what style is it supposed to be? Sorry to digress...S.H. ...your trip looks like a good time. If I read correctly, you are taking the Cadillac. I like the 1977-1979 CdV s.

  18. Yup, most of the eastern OH, WV and western PA Italians I know of have roots in the mining industry whereas most of the Central Valley of Calif. Italians have roots in farming (as do the Portuguese and the high concentration of Armenians around Fresno) for the most part. Sadly, these traditions will erode when immigrants and first-generation types are no more.

  20. You should still attend an Italian festival or two in your life, though.
