  2. Hey, I like all the bay windows in your neighborhood. Nah, mine would have been: Dec 25 - could have taken pictures of my best friend, his wife, their 2 little kids, so not really relevant Dec 26 - could have taken a picture from the top floor of Harrah's (The Forest Buffet) looking out over Lake Tahoe, but didn't Might drive down to SF and take pictures of the skyline/bay on N.Y.'s weekend
  3. No. However, the car from the 50s and 60s that I find the quirkiest is the '59 Impala, notably for its rear taillights.

  7. Nice pictures, Mustang. I miss having my car covered in snow every now and then. Also, that's a cool eclectic "Romanesque - whatever else" building in the background in a brick color more typical of the Midwest than the East. A school or civic building? Me, I just got back from Lake Tahoe this afternoon, instead of this evening. I took advantage of the fact that the pass over the summit was free of snow. So did a lot of other people!

  10. Lighting strikes twice. Just this a.m., I saw one JUST like the photo I posted, except that this one had alloy wheels but had a column shift.

  12. Many Intermountain West cities look just like this ... parts of Denver included. For those of you Easterners who think ALL of the West is great, here's proof it ain't. But the car was nice!

  14. Good, the November thread is still up and I just developed these. SAmadei, I thought of you when I took this. Here's a last-gen Bonneville seen in Reno NV on Veteran's Day (Nov. 11). This is the model I like since it's really clean, except for the cheap wheel covers. I believe this one had a bench seat. I like the buckets. I also prefer a light metallic color. I forgot how ugly and parched Reno is.
  15. Wow, Christmas is about a day away. Getting ready to go home from work in about 1 hour. Tomorrow will be a casual dress day and I'm sure very little will be accomplished. I'm going to a concert at my friend's church in the evening and then to Midnight Mass since it will only be a few hours after that. Except for being invited to Christmas dinner, I have no travel plans. I'm not able to go up north since I didn't buy air tickets far enough in advance. Regardless, all is well. What are people doing over the holidays? Happy holidays!
  16. Happy birthday! Merry Christmas, too!
  17. Enterprise's fleet is truly all over the map...I always scout out the lot before I go in and then ask for a GM car, followed by a Ford product if one is not available. One thing I DON'T like about Enterprise is that they are slightly militant about inspecting the car both when you take it off the lot and when you bring it back. It kind of reminds me of the few times I've rented cars in Europe.

  19. I patched up an old friendship just recently. Actually, it was with my best friend from grammar school. We had had a falling out in 2001, and again in 2008. BOTH were about money. For the first falling out, he had asked me to help him sort out some of the financial paperwork after his divorce. He literally handed me a file box in complete disarray. Not only that, he would ask me for small advances, and was never caught up in repayment. Total loss for me: less than $200. For the second falling out, it was about sorting out his child support status. I told him I could only help him recalculate the right balance. He expected me to take his side that he should be absolved from his financial responsibility. A huge argument ensued. Except for his financial mismanagement, which shouldn't impact me, we've had no other disagreements. Last Friday night, I showed up on his doorstep with two gifts for each of his small children. He remarried in 2005 and has two little kids. They asked me to come in and have pizza with them. As long as we don't talk money, the friendship should last. Ok, that's my good story as we enter the holiday season. ANY GOOD STORIES?

  25. I won't go down the political path with this, so I'll keep it "statistical" and then come back to the topic. Typically, 60% of Americans get their health insurance from working for large enough employers, 27% get health insurance because they are either older (Medicare) and/or because of their inability to pay (state Medicaid programs). That leaves 13% "high and dry" because their employers don't offer it, they are self-employed or are in a transitional situation. (Gee, could America, or any country, for that matter, do without its small companies and small entities?). I don't have the time or energy to pencil it out, but I have some empathy for the 13%. I have had to take the COBRA option before, and it's not fun to write the check, but I'm fairly averse to risk, so that's how I dealt with the transitional period. Reg, I hope things go well for you in 2010...it's only 12 days away and I really believe things will get better.
