  1. I've had several jerk bosses over the years. One would think that a boss with a very different approach MIGHT be a good thing. Not so in my experience. I do much better with the "in your face, tell-it-like-it-is" bosses. That way, you blow up and get it over with. My jerk boss is a flatliner who, not surprisingly, is passive aggressive. He and I have had our problems. But THIS STORY is NOT about me. I have this annoying, geeky but well-intentioned co-worker that is nearing retirement. He put his vacation days request down on the calendar. It is understood that if no one says anything to you and the schedule makes it onto a spreasheet, you've got the vacation days. His vacation days are on the spreadsheet. Fast forward: he made reservations to go up to Vancouver with his wife and kids for the Winter Olympics. Boss says that we're busy and he may have to work next weekend. He would lose airline money and hotel deposits over this. Right now, an impartial higher-up is trying to adjudicate. Others have said we will work extra here and there so he can go. Let's see what happens. Bottom line: even though I'm not crazy about this co-worker, this really sucks...and this boss is a douche bag.
  2. I won't touch the "language thing," but I always see that and think "misspelled." LOL @ that model name...more forgotten than the Silhouette, which I believe it replaced.
  3. A 1974 Coupe De Ville in fantastic condition. It was bronze with a tan landau vinyl roof and tan interior, though I couldn't see if it was cloth or leather. It had decent enough wheel covers. It also had the original license plate (6 digits with the letter sequence starting with J??); therefore, it was its first plate. Beautiful, but I like my 28+ mpg on the highway (in both of my cars).

  5. Regarding CR, I like to look at it (for free) while doing the tea or coffee thing at Borders or B&N. They seem to have a major h***-on for Japanese cars, which don't interest me. They do confirm that my two Buick purchases were good model years. The 98 and 99 Intrigue don't fare too well with them. They effin' love the new Fusion and Milans...those two show ratings that are just as good as all of the top-ranking Japanese cars. Go Detroit!

  7. Right, regardless of what others think, the DTS is a trustworthy luxury car and is also timeless in appearance. Consumer Reports finds it a little soft and too isolated, but I think I too would take a DTS over an MKS. Actually, the last line of the MKS mini-blurb in Consumer Reports said that initial reliability has been below par. That would make a 4 cylinder $22,000 Mercury Milan more reliable. What's wrong with that picture?

  11. I often drive by a L-M dealership and am able to glance at their inventory that is on the lot or in the showroom. Sometimes I actually stop in. They are a low-key dealership. They have a beautiful pearl white Lincoln MKS. They also have a silver one. From the outside, the car has got quite a stance. Most of its angles are good. I am not so sure I like the austronaut effect once inside. It has the high console just like the new Taurus. Also, once inside, you know you are in one hefty car. I think it's a very attractive vehicle, but it's way above my price point and way above the "statement" I need to make with my car - that is, if I need to make one at all. I can tell you that I liked the first-gen Cadillac CTS, thinking what a great step forward it was for the brand. Rapidly, one saw many of them on the road and the age of those driving them was lower than what I would have imagined for Cadillac. I do NOT like the new CTS. I think it's overstyled. Also, sitting in one, the pillars are too thick and visibility is not what I would like. However, it gets good reviews. I am happy about that, because it's a GM product. Of these, I pick the Lincoln MKS. The Lincoln is more timeless. The Cadillac's current styling platform for this car is more trendy. What's your take?
  12. Go for the GMC Envoy. If a Rainier slipped out from under you, maybe it wasn't meant to be (glass is half empty). Or, if another one became available, maybe it was meant to be (glass is half full). Ok, so back to the topic: - GMC still sells that vehicle...Rainier is discontinued...and that model name probably gets a "huh" from those not as familiar with vehicles as the people on this forum - white is safer at night...and doesn't fade - 10,000 miles is not much difference...everything has "seated" by now - the 4.2 I6 is, as you say, thirsty...however, it has supposedly held up ok over the long haul (learn something new every day: never knew it was called Atlas, though I do remember Vortecs)...but, considering the Jeeps for a second, all the 6s in those vehicles also consume a lot of fuel Let us know what you decide, or if you are going to pass on both.
