Review: 2016 Fiat 500X Trekking Plus and Jeep Renegade Limited
saturnd00d replied to William Maley's topic in Reviews
I know I'm late by almost a year, but just chiming in. I've lurked on this site for awhile after not having my Saturn Vue for almost 5 years. I went Grand Caravan for practicality of my situation. Recently though, I traded my Grand Caravan for a new 2017 Renegade. The tank is a bit small, true, but even with the 2.4 and 9 Speed auto (4x4 version), still getting about 520 kms fuel range per tank in a mix of city/hwy at about 60% / 40%. My average is 9.2l/100kms, which is about 30.5 mpg if I'm driving modestly. All highway, I haven't been able to get more than 33 mpg, but I feel that's pretty damn good for this thing, seeing as I'm beating the EPA. Not sure if the 2017 model year was tuned better than previous years, but I don't know many online who are getting in that MPG range. I don't seem to have the erratic transmission shifting issues that others have had previously. Hopefully the kinks are worked out with the programming. Pretty good experience overall. Saving me money on fuel over the minivan, and still getting decent range. I love this CUV, it's an attention grabber for sure, and the 4x4 (although not the trailhawk version) still allows me to go where many in this category cannot. Fun little thing. Just thought I would bring my opinion to the table. -
What a low blow...Hopefully the "New GM" isn't as ignorant or immature as some of this site's members. Chapter 7 would be around the corner.

GM to sell Saturn brand to Penske dealership chain
saturnd00d replied to Justin Bimmer's topic in General Motors
I'm glad that the resale value of my Vue isn't going to go down as much as it could have. I'm also glad that this deal went through. Break away from GM as much as possible. -
This is great news indeed, however knowing the losers over at GM, there will be no mention of fuel economy worth a damn to lure in buyers. I think it'll sell well, but I'm going to go on a limb here and think people are still going to be afraid to buy it due to all the troubles at GM right now. If they file Chapter 11, the buying public would probably still buy that $h!ty looking Rav4 or CRV with lower fuel efficiency rather than the obviously better product, simply because GM makes it. It does look pretty good though, and those numbers are great. Let's hope for GM's sake that it sells. No matter to me though, I wouldn't buy a new GM again in my lifetime.

This just all reinforces my belief that GM is done. They'll have nothing left by the end of it all. In fact, should they even survive all the butchery, their image would be worse than that of Kia, which would hurt them even more. I'm actually eyeing this whole Fiat Auto Group discussion now, which sounds more in line with what I would want out of an auto company. Small, fuel efficient and premium.

I guessed you missed the part about how GM started Saturn as a different entity with it's own seperate sales channel and business model. Pontiac is not set up that way.
-
If Fiat took over Opel and Chrysler and made some top notch smaller vehicles, I'd bet you'd see some kick-ass sales in North America. It's the one segment that severely lacks here in NA.

First off, congrats on your Astra. I am aiming to own one within the next few years (used of course). If you're looking for GREAT snow tires, I suggest Bridgestone Blizzaks. I had Blizzak REVO1's on my ION and I tell you, they grip very well. Not sure if that particular version of Blizzak is still made, because I bought them two years ago, but I'd suggest them if they are still made.

Leaving for München, Deutschland this weekend

Good luck over at BMW. I certainly don't blame you for making the move. Unfortunately, I'm a cheap-ass so you won't see me buying BMW, not now, and not ever. Great cars, but just not for me. -
I watch it. This season has been great, and very inspiring to me to say the least. I think Mike or Tara both have a great chance to win it all. Helen, not so sure she can pull it off.

[Updated] Pontiac Officially Dead in 2010 as of 04/27/2009
saturnd00d replied to wildcat's topic in General Motors
See my mentality differs from yours. My family has bought GM since my dad first came to Canada in 1968. He has supported them throughout the years with his low income but nonetheless, never hesitated. If he were alive today you can bet he would have a change of heart just like I do. Why support a company who isnt on the same page as you are? I want build quality and fuel efficiency in a small package. I dont see that over at chevy [and where I do is in a premium-priced vehicle costing way more than it should like both the Cruze and Volt]. You might laugh but I do see that more and more over at Hyundai. They are seriously stepping up their game and I think its only a matter of time before they catch up to [and pass] Honda and Toyota. -
Though I dont have the knowledge of GM's internal workings, I think Opel can survive alot better seperate from GM than part of them. Alot of the reason that Opel's sales werent very good until the last few years was because of GM's negative perception worldwide, not unlike NA.

The G8 is a great car. If I was in the market for that kind of car, I would snag it up in a minute. Unfortunately with the fact that we pay more for gas in Canada than they do stateside, and insurance being more money up here, it's a bit out of the budget. I stick to small cars for that reason. Personally, whenever I come across someone in the market for that kind of car, I recommend they at least test out a G8. Unfortunately these same people are skeptical about buying GM in the wake of their demise. It's just one reality GM has to face sooner or later.

I think if it's priced right, it'll sell. I have to applaud Hyundai for turning around their comapny and image, something GM can't do to save their life, literally. Personally, I am becoming a fan of the Korean automaker, and actually wouldn't mind owning one in the future, something I wouldn't have said 3 or 4 years ago.

Love it, sexy as hell

The similarity to the civic coupe is way too much, however I have to admit it does look nice. I'd still prefer a civic coupe over this Kia version, not because of the nameplate at all, simply because I think the civic coupe looks a bit sleeker and more refined. Interior, I'd actually prefer the Forte's to the civic though. Good attempt for Kia, and in fact, I think they'll sell quite a few of these. Hopefully it's a bit bumped up in reliability and refinement than past Kias. If so, I think it'll draw more people into the doors for them.

GM is being Euthanized. This would be a(nother) dumb part on their behalf. They don't even fight for their cause, they simply comply with everything the gov't is telling them to do. They are done like dinner. Buick should remain between Chevy and Cadillac. With a few exceptions aside, Chevy is vanilla, bland and boring. Cadillac isn't within the reach of every Tom, Dick and Harry, so in essence if you are a middle-class family and are comsidering GM, you have the option of buying CHEVY. Yay, let's all celebrate. If they sell Buick, Pontiac will shortly follow. And though GMC doesn't cost GM too much money, I'm willing to bet that they will get the axe as well just because the gov't won't see a purpose of one automaker with 2 truck divisions. This is truly sad.

REPORT: General Motors in "intense" bankruptcy preparations
saturnd00d replied to Intrepidation's topic in General Motors
I hate to say it, but I think that after all is said and done, it's going to be Chevy and Cadillac. GM doesn't seem to have a clear vision about any of it's other brands, which leads me to think this way. Time is definitely of the essence and GM doesn't have any cash to spare at this point. If they don't have clear direction by now, I don't think they would chance anything. Really, it's a shame what has happened to the almighty GM. They had so much potential to succeed, to stick it to the imports but in my eyes, it's too little, too late. Buick is a historic brand, as is Pontiac in conjunction with Chevy and Caddy. GMC has very little invested into it because up to this point, they have been blatant rebadges save for a few exceptions. Profitable yes, unique? Hardly. Let's see how the release of the terrain works for them. I'm sad to see Saturn go, as you all probably know by now, but this whole experience with GM as a whole, watching them cut and starve across the company made me realize that I don't want to spend any more of my money supporting them. I have my eyes fixed on a used Astra down the road, but as far as car purchases after that, should GM even be around, I won't consider them anymore, at least not in terms of a new car purchase. Too many other good, reliable cars out there from automakers with far less troubles. I do wish GM all the best, and I will always keep reading the latest news on them, but supporting them is not in my future anymore. I hope those of you who will continue to support them, no matter which division(s) your heart belongs to, don't get as down and disappointed with GM as I have. -
sorry for your loss DF. I had a dog when I was 11 but it got run-over right in frot of my eyes, and since then I haven't been able to stomach ever owning a pet again. The pain that's involved with losing a pet is too much for me to handle personally, like a close family member as you said. If anyone's ever watched Marley and Me, with Jenn Aniston and Owen Wilson would understand.

2010 GMC Terrain revealed
saturnd00d replied to BigPontiac's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
It definitely is a love-it or hate-it design, and I actually love it. It does have the look of the smaller brother to the Acadia, except a bit more squared-off. I also notice the wheel arches and general squaredness design of it, they are probably trying to appeal to Jeep/Hummer fans as well as GMC and truck-loving affectionados altogether. I think the design works well, sure there are a couple things I wish they did differently, but it's not obtrusive and definitely not as bad looking as an Aztek. Whoever thought of that comparison should have their eyes checked. Both designs manage to be different, only one seems to work well -
Something little I noticed about the '09 Astra

It's becoming more and more a reality, get used to it -
congrats on your new position at BMW. If I were in your shoes I would have done the same thing.

Dodge finally adds a five-speed automatic to V6 Challenger SE
saturnd00d replied to Intrepidation's topic in Chrysler
I agree. Although the Challenger isn't the car that the Camaro is, it's still a great contender, and it has great presence on the street. Still gets alot of looks. The Mustang, on the other hand, is plain ole' boring and washed up. It's getting to be more and more generic since it seems that 90% of them are the cheap V6 versions. -
General Motors Chief Rick Wagoner Said to Step Down
saturnd00d replied to ellives's topic in General Motors
I'm glad to see Rick gone, I don't understand how anyone could be sad to see him go. He took over at a time when GM was slipping, and shoved them over the cliff.
