  1. keep an eye on the verazruz to see if they can get to that price pointazera success is questionable(without looking at numbers)
  2. if i was GM, I'd be working overtime to have those NY auto show triplets on the street sooner rather than later. i'd also be focused on diesel(even if limited use in usa), E85 and hybrids as fast as possible.
  3. there's always a $h!load of them there. nothing new. not sure why. perhaps some staging area while they wait for a train to the states?
  4. sure that wasn't Automobile?
  5. good to see cts is real world pics. STS looks like more of a dud than it already is
  6. why that instead of the LS7?
  7. amen to that. (i've got to get rid of that minivan. wonder if I can squeeze the wife and kids and all the camping gear into a G8???)
  8. and here's the rub. you and people like you are a very insignificant share of the market. that's not a personal shot, just a comment that enthusiasts don't carry enough buying power to have a significant impact in the market, hence any 'enthusiast' car (V8, 500hp, 500ft-lb, 6spd manual, huge wheels/tires) that GM would craft up needs to have decent base model in order for the business case to work.
  9. that is absolutely true. in fact, there was an article this morning talking about the fact that BMW and Mercedes were closing their dealerships and moving out of Canada and the northern states cause it was going to cost too much money to convert all their cars to FWD for that market. and don't try to convince us that 90% of BMW and Mercedes cars sold in the 'northern climes' are AWD, cause that is a croc.
  10. as usual, you head of on some tangent and rant about something. regardless, as far as I know, there are NO other products coming down the pipe for Pontiac. hence, the G8 would have to do it by itself. ie alone.
  11. I get the analogy, but, um no. I don't for two seconds think the market would consider Pontiac a higher quality manufacturer. and in the same sentence as Acura and Lexus, not a chance. there isn't one car in their line-up that even comes close. we'll wait for the G8 to arrive to see if things have any hope of improving. (by the way, I get your point about what they could be given the dealer alignment)
  12. 80k? that sounds a lot higher than that i would expect. also sounds higher than will be needed for the demand. G8 doesn't have the 'in your face' styling of the 300 or name of the Charger to woo buyers.
  13. i think you need to go back and re-read the article. price was NOT the reason it won. and by the way, it was a CLEAR winner in 'their' minds.fyi - I'd buy the SRX before the MDX. oh, and by the way, the MB and BMW were 6cyl and the SRX was V8. (optioning V8's in the germans would have priced them too high relative to the others in the comparo)
  14. The G8 is coming on a boat from Australia. Not on a train from Brampton. Therefore it can't supply Charger-like numbers. It is coming in such limited numbers, even if it is a success, it alone, in it's current form is not enough to save Pontiac. The only thing that can save Pontiac is a commitment from GM to define the brand, agree on the right product mix and deliver the product. Given that all their trucks/vans/crossovers are going to GMC, it is clear that Pontiac is going to have to live/die on their cars. A limited quantity Solstice and limited quantity G8, combined with limited quantity G6 convert and coupe are not going to make up for the loss of the GP and Bonneville, and the G6 sedan can be purchased at Chevy and Saturn. So, unless NG G8 moves to Oshawa to replace RWD Impala AND alpha is approved and arrives in short order, I'd say Pontiac is on life support. And given GM NA's crappy 1Q performance they are in poor financial shape. The zeta delay, is not soley about cafe. GM needs to re-evaluate where to spend their limited cash. Tough to invest in too many places until the dike is plugged and so far that is not happening, it is still leaking. Moving Pontiac to a RWD only BMW-esque type brand is a brilliant idea - on paper. But with no global small RWD platform in place right now to offer the variants necessary and with GM in poor financial shape, and with NA sales continuing to slide it is pretty damn difficult to envision GM having the balls to press on. If the market conditions were different and CAFE, global warming, global dimming, $4 gas weren't all going on and the 900's were selling like hotcakes and the lambas were selling well, then there would be some decent profit to invest elsewhere. but, alas that is not the case Buick survives because it has China. Pontiac is USA only.
  15. coffee first. keyboard second. websters third.
  16. what the hell is a deciple?
  17. saturn does not have a dealer network large enough to have a significant impact on chevy sales. if i were you, i'd be scared to death of hyundai.
  18. what happend to the gold ole days when a thread like this that got all stupid and off topic would be locked?
  19. i don't think it is quite as simple as the buick dealers calling up rick and placing an order for some Park Aves.
  20. i would expect no less on a GM board, but look for Integras, Civics, Corollas, Preludes. these were the cars of the youth of that generation. (few folks were goo goo ga gaing over cavaliers.) people with cash buy tri 5 chevys cause they grew up with them. the next generation is buying muscle cars. when it gets to the 80's it will be the japanese invasion.
  21. northie I think you meant 'Estate' not wagon! :AH-HA_wink:
  22. some interesting thoughts. let me add a dose of reality, or perceived reality based on the expected product decisions coming out of Cadillac over the next few years. this is not FACT, just tidbits I've picked up along the way. 1. DTS remaining FWD - all indications are that the G platform dies in a couple of years as Lucerne and DTS move to RWD 2. Future of STS/DTS - naming aside, both cars die in a few years. they are likely to be replaced by an ETS (my name to try to avoid confusion of the STS/DTS names), which rides on Zeta and is assembled in Oshawa. (my opinion says it keeps the DTS name) 3. SRX dies in a few more years. 4. CTS coupe debuts when SRX dies 5. BRX - built on TE replaces SRX in the lineup 6. 2008 CTS will not fit the current NS engine. hence the 2009 CTS-V will run an LSx. 7. Supposedly some UV8 is in development to replace the NS. (that's probably what was in the SRX mule with ports)TBD if it will fit in the CTS engine bay. it would need tidier packaging than the NS. 8. Alpha Cadillac debuts if program is approved. Name? BTS? carries variations - coupe, wagon etc 9. New ULS. runs the UV8 and V12. Not sure of platform. Zeta seems unlikely. Maybe Sigma2?? 10. XLR - no idea. Needs some serious work to play with the SL500 So, 2010/11 the lineup looks like BTS-alpha CTS-sigma ETS-zeta (probably keeps the name DTS) FTS-(ULS on sigma2) XLR BRX Escalade is this the ideal product mix? who knows. but Cadillac is NOT an independent company. it is part of GM and must live within the constraints that places on them as a brand.
  23. shouldn't it be 'a + a = 2a'??
  24. tx for the suggestions!
  25. I'm going to California for 10 days with my wife in April. Landing in LA. Running up Coast Highway, Monterey/Carmel, Napa, flying out of San Francisco. Also doing a 1day Skip Barber course at Laguna Seca Was also considering renting an XLR or something, just for a day, but the cost is ludicrous. ($350/day). Now thinking perhaps a Mustang convertible for the week. Looking for some suggestions/advice: - anyone been to Skip Barber, any experiences to share - anyone know where I can rent an XLR/Corvette for a reasonable amount? - anyone know of anyone renting CTS-V's? - anyone care to suggest any 'must see' places/things in the LA area?(other than Hollywood/Beverly Hills) We're working on the itenerary over the weekend so that it is firm, but flexible.
