  1. really? and what do you suppose the minivan buying public is going to buy? it's not an Enclave.
  2. Kappa caddy would be cool, but what does the business case look like? I'd say Cadillac has bigger issues than adding niche vehicles to the mix right now. Hence the focus will be on addressing obvious short comings in the core vehicles (interiors) and adding vehicles to that mix that sell in volume (BRX). STS also need a kick in the pants. It's selling 2/3 as many as 5 and E. And SRX needs some help too.
  3. GM can't wave AH-HA's magic wand and have 76 brand new vehicles (any idiot knows that). As a result, corners have to be cut and less than ideal decisions need to be made. Pontiac does well in Canada, hence a Pursuit. Pontiac dealers need a mini-SUV hence the Torrent. Ideal? No. Purposeful? Yes. As a minivan owner (Mazda) and friends with lots of GM minivan owners, I can tell you that very few of them would option for the Enclave for 2 reasons - price and functionalaity. They would not, pay the premium that the Enclave will come with. As well, the fancy full length centre floor thingy (brain cramp) looks fantastic, but unless it folds flat into the floor with centre and 3rd row seating to give you a huge load area for those trips to Home Depot then it is not as practical as a minivan. GM sold over 135,000 of the 4 minivans. You think that they can sell 135,000 Enclaves? They only sold 90,000+ Rainiers, Rendezvous and Terrazas combined. So assume that Chevy gets a minivan off lambda. It's mandatory. I'd argue that the P-B-G dealers are going to want a van too so as not to lose sales to the chevy guys. Does GM need 2 minivans? An interesting question, but the power of the dealers has an influence. Which brand gets it? I don't know. Maybe the Acadia has more minivan functionality than the Enclave, at a lower price. The P-B-G think adds a level of complexity to the product mix to avoid product overlap. Chevy can have one of every flavour. Buick can't, GMC can't, Pontiac can't. But the 3 of them combined will. or should.
  4. i think you're in the minority on that one. i also agree with much of sixty8. unfortunately, economics gets in the way.
  5. WHAT??? you told me Csaba was your neighbour! and you were really Brock Yates.
  6. re-read evok said. - as of today, Jan 10th, 2005 there is NO OFFICAL PLAN to build the Camaro. No necessary approvals, no suppliers lined up etc etc etc. That is FACT. you can't argue with it. (that could change as of Jan 11th) - then he goes on to say, that he believes that it will get the go ahead (just as do 80%+ of all car enthusiasts believe it will get build) As for the GTO, I can't recall Lutz making that comment that many times, but then I haven't been paying that close attention. But I got a funny feeling that GM needs a RWD G8 sedan and a RWD Chevy Belair more than it needs a 2dr GTO.
  7. RFP - Request for Proposal RFI - Request for Information RFR - Request for RWD vehicle
  8. G8. and recall Pontiac is now tied with Buick/GMC in dealers so they don't need to cover all the bases.
  9. that's true. evok, has a direct line into Car and Driver!
  10. The only thing wrong with the GTO was the name. The shoes were too big to fill. Had it been called something else, anything else, it would have done a lot better in the press, and maybe even in the sales department.
  11. sorry. you're going to have to wait a while longer. you'll be driving your new 2009 Camaro before then.
  12. i'd guess NAIAS 2007 - but I'd be surprised if they can keep it under wraps that long.
  13. that's because it is HUGE, compared to rx, mdx etc
  14. this thing won't save Buick or GM. But, I know someone with a 20-point plan that can..............
  15. kinda points back to your 'corporate communications' comment in the other thread. GM doesn't seem to have a clue how to talk to the media.
  16. i think you'll be very cold and very bored since it doesn't open to the public until the 14th.
  17. from BC??? that's quite a trek.
  18. i've heard NAIAS several times. i'm there opening day, so hope it shows!!
  19. true, but, what does Holden and Opel have to do with that?
  20. the public is so addicted to GM Promos they should raise the prices on new vehicles and raise the incentives.
  21. interesting strategy. screw any good PR from a Camaro, kill the only brand that GM has a shot at using against Honda/Toyota and walk away from the Australian and German/European market to focus on the American market where costs are high, financials are weak and public perception sucks. i think we've found a replacement of Wagoner!

    ULS

next-gen CTS is going to be the defining moment of truth for Cadillac's future. just as it was the first A&S vehicle and had to take the brunt of the ridicule and criticism, it will be the first vehicle to make the design cohesive and set the standard for the new interiors that cadillac needs. (badly). if this car is well received by the public and press (and i believe it will be) then cadillac will be able to build on that momentum. let's be honest. buyers in the lux sport sedan mkt generally do not consider CTS when shopping for G35, 325, A4 etc. (i said generally). unfortunately, there are 2, make that 3 immediate/short term questions marks. 1. what to do with the SRX. given the flavour of the market to prefer suv's the srx has not lived up to it's potential (especially after winning C&D lux suv 2yrs running). how much do they invest in this vehicle? if they can clip in the next-gen CTS interior with some modest extenal tweaks, then adjust the price it could gain some traction. 2. what to do with the STS. it is not selling up to it's potential either. and i would suggest it is even less cross-shopped against m-b and bmw than the CTS. the car just has no soul. but what can you expect given the last minute changes that lutz made. 3. BTS/BLS - a bigger unknown here. do they bring a sedan under the CTS or just the BRX. is Epsilon 2 (with awd)good enough to get the job done for cadillac? after that, you've got next-gen XLR to deal with(which prob doesn't need significant changes, just evolution) and a DTS replacement. Lots of question marks and lots to get done before the low-volume ULS can add much to the bottom line. (of course, there's nothing like the solid PR of a 'knock-your-socks off' well exectued Sixteen inspired ULS could generate. but, you could not afford the bad press of a hap-hazard job - and the cost to do it right, could be better spend on existing products.)
  23. one post has not only cemented what was wrong with GM of the past but also gives hope for the future. depressing and enlightening at the same time!
  24. i think they've fixed that with most of the new products in the past few years.
