  1. i'm not saying cadillac has not come along way, but i'm not certain that i believe that gm considered all the specific points as outlined in that previous post. they might have, but it would surprise me.
  2. you just can't resist. maybe this is a chance for the Apprentice to step in and show what he can do.
  3. WOW!! I see a huge opportunity for GM to build a 5cyl car. They would OWN that segment of the market. Where is the Bel-Air Concept when GM really needs it.
  4. honestly, i don't think he has ever been ignored. and by ignored i mean when he starts a thread, no one replies. no one. unfortunately someone always takes a shot at him or offers a compelling argument against his plan and he rattles on again at nausim (till you want to puke)
  5. the difference of course that saturn doesn't dicker as much whereas chevy and pontiac never sell anywhere near msrp
  6. au contraire. (meanign quite the opposite)he thrives on the attention. only way to get rid of him is to ignore him.
  7. as amusing as this crap is, I'd much rather he just go away. and more importantly, stay away.
  8. to evok, fbod and 91, thanks for the rational thought. unfortunately, the only successful method of dealing with BM and mini-BM is to ignore them. every comment/post made just feeds their ego. if you don't reply, they eventually get bored and leave (or make up some false story, post it on the front page, call every reliable source a buffoon, then throw a hissy fit and act like a child and finally complain when everyone says they are acting like a child). to BM, let us know if you ever want to participate in a thoughtful and rational discussion, cause the countless times you've come back you're thrown daggers at RW and refused to address any comments by people with more experience in the auto industry than yourself. until you are prepared to participate with some manners, and 'discuss' the issues please do not come back.
  9. you love it! it's the most attention(only attention) that either you or BM get anywhere on the planet.
  10. i think you are giving GM WAY TOO MUCH CREDIT. i don't thing GM gave half that stuff any thought.
  11. aren't you going to address evok's comments? or are you going to do what you normally do and just keep throwing FUD and ignore all sane arguments. cue mini-BM to leap to the defence of his mentor (in all his belt buckle glory!)
  12. isn't the GX a 4Runner??
  13. i think that actual production facts are required here, I wonder if any are available because clearly, there is a communication problem here. let me ask this question. if every vehicle that GM offered came with an optional V8 in 2007, but production of V8 engines by GM declined 20% from 2006 to 2007 would you say that V8's are growing in popularity or shrinking? i think what evok is saying, is that due to increased power and efficiencies of V6 engines, (and factor in rising fuel costs) the number of V8 engines sold in 'passenger cars' will decline over time as most consumers are not enthusiasts (like most on this board) and will achieve satisfactory results in their vehicle with a V6 engine. ie. there is no need to go to a V8. if V8 engines are growing in popularity then I would assume by the arguments posted here that the Imapla SS outsells the 3.5 and 3.9 because Americans love V8's. somehow, I don't think that is the case.
  14. the article should have been titled "Cadillac - Relevant Again." Because prior to the CTS and fluke star status of the Escalade, Cadillac was not, at least not in this segment.
  15. feathers were not ruffled. just making a point. go ask Bob Lutz if he'd rather Cadillac have the 'insignificant' 66,000 additional sales that Infiniti had in 2005 vs. 2001, then come try to explain why it's not 'relevant'.
  16. you cut corners. Cadillac share went from 14.1% to 15.6% from 2001 to 2002. then it remained flat for the next 3 years. (15.6, 15.9, 15.7) why the initial jump???? the CTS went on sale Jan 2002, hence the jump the first year. hmm, but didn't the XLR, SRX and STS all debut after that? and still no significant increase - just flat. "Renaissance"? Not a hope. A decent product at the low end of the market for Cadillac to replace the Catera? - Yes. And what's with Infinit's mathematically invalid? What the hell is that? Since when is 6% of this market invalid? For the record, Infiniti went from 6% to 9%. (btw, the G35 debuted in 2002 as well i believe.) also, of note, total sales increased 23% from 1,216,599 to 1,497584
  17. i agree. V6's have come a long way and for the 'average' consumer with 'normal' needs a V6 is good enough. but for pure performance in larger cars you'll need a V8. and for that image conscious buyer, a 300C is diddly squat without the Hemi. for that reason alone the V8 will not die. volumes may decrese, but it will not die. the Lexus strategy is an interesting one. it's success will depend on the longevity, technical advances and practicality of hybrid technology.
  18. interesting thread. here's my hypothesis. CTS is being sold, in large part, to GM customers, and to traditional Cadillac customers who are looking to a) save a few bucks, and b) get a smaller car (based on personal observations of number of over-50 drivers of CTS - not scientific nor statistically accurate, i know). sure, there are some import cross-shoppers, but Cadillac cars, DO NOT hit the radar screen of most entry lux or lux shoppers out there. end of story! I'm in Toronto working for a large corporate company in sales where a good chunk of the demographic is where Cadillac wants to be. No one, and I mean no one, that has been looking at new cars in the past several years has Cadillac or CTS on their radar screen. no one. they are just not there. there is one CTS in the parking lot and a guy i know bought it used. and a CTS-V just showed up this week for a few days so not sure if an employee or someone in town for the week. if the CTS was a solid triple for Cadillac (compared to the Catera) then the STS and SRX were walks leaving the bases loaded and no runs scored. (the Escalade is not playing in this game but is on another field scoring lots of runs.) Cadillac still has a lot or work to do to make themselves relevant, and I mean really relevant in their market. I remain very confident about NG CTS, but NG STS and NG SRX scare the hell out of me.
  19. unfortunately, you americans have some pronunciation issues.
  20. i think evok has nailed it. all indications are that NG CTS will be a success. the real test is NG STS, SRX and NG BLS/BRX. get those right and we have success. play it safe, like the STS, and it will just be another double instead of a home run.
  21. if the Malibu had the best damn interior on the planet, how would GM get people to stop walking into the Accord and Camry dealerships? if you build it, they will come is only part of the equation. GM's biggest hurdle (let's assume that they've got the product sorted out) is mindshare and public perception. that is going to take years to fix.
  22. last few 'decades.' and you're 'hopeful' because of some 'bright spots'. you are an optimist!!! and, sadly, I'm there with you!
  23. I think the Sky is just rolling onto dealer lots now aren't they whereas the Solstice has been available for months. Will be interesting to see in the summer which one sells more.
