Opel Antara to head Holden's Captiva range
Mule Bakersdozen LS replied to douglask's topic in Heritage Marques
Welcome Tommo! I think Antara will also be built in Korea by Daewoo, but both are on an updated version of the Saturn VUE/Chevy Equinox/Pontiac Torrent's Theta architecture (both on the short 106" wheelbase of the VUE and not Equinox/Torrent), with Captiva to be lower-priced and offering seating for up to 7 passengers, and Antara to feature 5-passenger seating, and positioned more upscale. -
Ditto.

Looks nice, but narrow-worlds better than the cheap-looking aging car now-hopefully the abysmal crash test ratings will improve.
-
Avalanche has offered to date Dark Green Metallic (47U), and I think Meander Green (Yellow-green) Metallic.
-
Here's my Camaro color suggestion list: Onyx Black (41U) White or Summit White (40U or 50U-doesn't matter) Silverstone Metallic (67U) Dark Silver Metallic (42U) Blue Granite Metallic (46U) Slate Grey, better known as Stealth Grey Laser Blue Metallic (21U) Polar Blue Metallic (35U) Powder Blue-see the 2007 minivans! Black Amethyst Metallic (71U) Victory Red (74U) Precision Red (27U) Deep Ruby Metallic (66U) Hugger Orange Lime Green Rally Yellow (34U) Sandstone Metallic (15U) Amber Bronze Metallic (53U)

BTW, C.H.U.D-great idea! I was mixed on that idea, but do you remember the 1997 Rageous concept car? Yeah, its styling was wild and crazy and I don't think it was well-liked, but its one of my favorite concept cars, and Pontiac could use fresh, space-age styling right now, so why not apply it here?

Looked good on the Trans Am's, circa 1977-81-I don't care bring it back with the Firebird-as an option! That's a nice Malibu, Mightymouse-what year is it? You know, Krause Publications has a Chevelle (includes 1978-83 Malibu and El Camino of all years) book out-go check it out! Resume to the Firechicken!
-
Welcome Moriarty! Yeah, 76" width is still lowballing it for a full-size car, but its better than the narrow things we have today (an Impala is only 73"-the mid-sizers should be there! They're only at 69-71"-not good enough!)

Opel Antara to head Holden's Captiva range
Mule Bakersdozen LS replied to douglask's topic in Heritage Marques
Sounds good, if not obvious and absolutely unsurprising news seeing as how most volume Opel/Vauxhall's are shipped to hold in Australia (well, at least it used to be, until the Corsa-based Barina was dropped and the possible Vectra discontinuance). -
Thank you Variance!
-
I like it! A lot! Nice innovative direction, different from what I expected. Could this look similar to the rumored 2010 Lambda, if not a thinly-disguised unveil?
-
Welcome Wolfie! You try a Google search or Ask.com yet? I've been away from the Chevy history books for a while, but other than X-11 not being available as a 5-door hatchback sedan and having badging, decals, and the V-6 as standard among a few other things, I don't know much about it these days. The 2-door Club Coupe took a year off; and thus a 3-door hatchback coupe was the other body style available. Hope the search and your stay at Cheers and Gears goes well!

C&G Exclusive - 2007.5 Aveo Hatch Spy Shots!
Mule Bakersdozen LS replied to Flybrian's topic in Chevrolet
I can't see the pictures, but having the 2008 Malibu/SS concept front end is a good thing, something I can't say about the ugly front end on the 2007 Aveo. 2011 can't come soon enough-this 1980's Opel-derived platform needs to die, I've wanted to see for years for Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and Chevy's subcompact (what turned out to be Aveo) to finally be on common basing like it was rumored around 1996-2000. Hopefully this will be much more attractive than the ugly and boring Yaris. -

Until I checked the height, I wasn't sure if this was a Take Two concept version of the T2X, from which it looks very inspired styling-wise. I like this a lot and can't wait to see pictures of the official concept! What platform is this based on?
-
I think T2X was to be the Sub-Theta based model (GMT161 according to Hogans Heroes some time back), which according to AutoWeek has been cancelled, unfortunately.
-
Its nice to see a styling renaissance upon the mid-size, front-drive sedan. I like this a lot-a little Stratusesque, Caliber and most certainly Charger here and there-I think and hope it will sell, and hopefully SE/SXT will be available with the V-6.

OnStar, GM map out plan for navigation system
Mule Bakersdozen LS replied to Flybrian's topic in General Motors
Sounds nice, but why is this expensive technological gimmick (that I'm sure not everyone wants) being made standard when Aveo and trucks don't even have a CD player standard and when cars like Impala, Cobalt, Malibu, G6, etc. still have features such as ABS and side-impact/curtain airbags as optional and not standard? -
How did the original lineup work? I've been away from my Chevy books for a while, and I can't remember if Z/28 (bring back the slash!) was above SS or vice-versa. I think the lineup should go something like LS, LT (a la Berlinetta), Z/28, and SS, maybe ZL-1 limited production for the coupe only. Also, a V-8 engine (4800 or 5300) should be optional for LS and LT models, instead of them being stuck only with a V-6.

After a long time of making no sense in what killing the Pontiac Bonneville and stillborn Buick Siecle, Theta, and other models meant, suddenly I'm starting to see what the future Buick-Pontiac-GMC unified lineup will look like. Someone correct me if I'm wrong in presenting the future product lineups, circa 2009-11 range: Pontiac G5-Chevrolet Cobalt clone 2-door, 5-passenger notchback coupe. Positioned slightly upscale and considered GM's sport coupe rival to Scion tC, or rather, the closest thing to it. Pontiac G6-Epsilon architecture, long-wheelbase (112.3") model offering 2-door, 4-passenger fastback coupe, 2-door retractable-hardtop coupe-convertible, and 4-door, 5-passenger notchback sedan body styles. To be redesigned on Epsilon II for the 2011 model year. (I'd suggest moving the RHT C-C over to Buick as Somerset or Velite-just to be even with the upscale nature of this vehicle and Chrysler Sebring competition, which G6 does not have). Similar to Chevrolet Malibu, Saturn Aura, and 2010 Buick LaCrosse (below). Pontiac G8/Grand Prix/GTO-Future unknown for the Grand Prix name or the GTO, with G8 the most rumored name so far. Based on SWB mid-size (114.8" wheelbase) Zeta VE rear-wheel-drive architecture of the Australian Holden Commodore, I'd guess G8/GP would come as a 4-door notchback sedan that seats 5 passengers, possibly a 2-door hardtop coupe, which if GTO were revived, would be its lone body style. Commodore has a 3.6-liter DOHC High Feature 263hp V-6, 6000 6.0-liter OHV V-8 engines in 2-3 different power ranges, all with a 6-speed OD manual or automatic transmission, with TAPShift likely available, I'd assume. A 350hp 5300 5.3-liter OHV LS4 V-8 would make a nice midrange powerplant as well. Pontiac Solstice-Successful and coveted 2-door, 2-passenger soft-top convertible roadster (and supposed 3-door liftback coupe circa 2008) is similar to Saturn Sky and may be restyled around 2011. No repositioning needed here, though that doesn't mean the mere standard equipment level couldn't use a boost. Pontiac Torrent-Possible switchover to the.... GMC Torrent-As a 2008 mode, slotted under the.... GMC Acadia-A 2007 model-year sibling to the full-size Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook, and possible 2010 Chevrolet (Moab?). Originally to be Pontiac's crossover until its future became less clear. In content, the Acadia 5-door, 8-passenger crossover SUV wagon seems to slot just between the Outlook and Enclave, powered by a 267hp version of the 3.6-liter DOHC HF V-6 engine and a 6-speed OD electronic automatic transmission. GMC Savana, Canyon, Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra-all traditional truck lines of GMC, but need to shed their W/T and SL trim level models and gain massive equipment/styling boosts if they ever even think they are going to elevate themselves status-wise over nearly identical Chevrolet Express, Colorado, Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado models. They are the heart of GMC's line. GMC Envoy-Expected to be dropped along with the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, as opposed to be restyled/redesigned like previously. GMC Serrano-The Pontiac Montana SV6 was already dropped in North America after the 2006 model year; Buick Terraza and Saturn Relay all are slated to die after 2008, and be replaced by this 2010 model-the first-ever car-based minivan ever for GMC, on Acadia's Lambda FWD/AWD architecture. Unknown if regular or XL wheelbases will be offered, or just an XL version similar to Chevrolet Uplander replacement. See Acadia for Serrano powertrain. Buick LaCrosse-This mid-size, 4-door notchback sedan is slated to move to the LWB Epsilon II FWD architecture for the 2010 model year, hopefully seating up to 6 passengers on certain models, 5 elsewhere. A rival to not just Mercury Milan and Chrysler Sebring, but also to Lexus ES330 and Acura TL, LaCrosse is now similar to Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6 (which it would be heavily differentiated from style-wise) and Saturn Aura (ditto hopefully). See the Lambda group for powertrains, I'd think. Buick Lucerne-Redesigned to the rear (or all?)-wheel-drive Zeta VE architecture, for 2011, shedding the G-Body platform and the cancelled Lambda-based Chi architecture. Cadillac DTS may again be similar, as will the 2009 Chevy Impala, all likely on the long-wheelbase (118.5") version of Zeta. Seating up to 6 passengers (5 on others) in a 4-door notchback sedan, sharing G8 powertrains (automatic only) I'd assume-the V-6 and V-8 engines. Buick Enclave-The long-awaited Rendezvous/Rainier replacement, despite being an entirely different vehicle in a different class from either. More differentiated than Moab, Outlook, or Acadia, the luxurious Enclave would have the same Lambda architecture and powerplants, but also a forthcoming to-be-announced V-8 option, and more luxury features and status. Buick Rapid-Name only a suggestion, Rapid was to be a Acura RDX-type rival on the forthcoming or cancelled compact Sub-Theta FWD/AWD car-based crossover architecture, below the Enclave. There's room here, and GMC ain't exactly the right division for a luxurious Acura/BMW X3 rival. So these here are all what I'm guessing so far will comprise the Pontiac-GMC-Buick lineup of the near future. Little overlap, lots of variety, and with Pontiac focusing on sporty cars, Buick on luxurious cars, and GMC on select crossovers but still predominantly cars and trucks.

I take it you mean a Vectra-based (i.e. Ford Galaxy rival) version, correct? I think Saturn should get Meriva and Zafira federalized and send them here as the Saturn MON and Transponder. Wait-isn't the Lucerne Zeta based on the Statesman/Caprice full-size version or the mid-size Commodore version?
-
I absolutely, totally agree. It just makes sense that Buick gets the minivan-take Ford and Mercury and Dodge and Chrysler for example. You don't see Jeep with a minivan, right? (oops...I better not give them or GMC any ideas for a Epsilon II or Zeta-based wagon-I hope neither of the above ever happen or are truly thought up-I'm sure the Sorrano might look really nice, but I'm still fully against it, but I guess we'll have to deal with it.)
-
If GM were to add station wagons, the lines I think that should get them are Chevrolet Malibu and Impala, Buick LaCrosse, and how about reviving the stillborn Pontiac Banner and Buick Signia modelss, and putting those and Impala on the Zeta VE (LWB) platform?
-
GM-DAT would do well to adopt the ECOTEC I-4 engines-particularly the 2.2-liter for Reno/Forenza/Optra.
-
I agree with you completely. I'm trying to see how/if that might interfere with Cadillac, but I see Buick's biggest rival companies as Chrysler, Mercury, and Acura. GMC should stick with truck-based vehicles only; Pontiac with sporty, upscale vehicles only, though the latter looks to me like it will have a much harder time without trying to step on Saturn and Chevrolet's toes. The 1960 Buick lineup comprised of the year-old LeSabre, Invicta, and Electra; the "compact" Special was introduced for the 1961 model year with the similar Oldsmobile F-85 and Pontiac Tempest, I believe loosely based on the Corvair, except of course, being larger, more upscale, and of a conventional front-engine layout.
