  1. Exhaust manifolds almost always rust, unless they're stainless, and then they discolor. *edit* Did this part stick out to anyone else? The rest of it seemed to be staying in the middle - this was by far the strongest opinion given in the whole thing. lol
  2. Sorry, I get used to dealing with noobs on other forums, and it'd be nothing for one of them to think there were only one Ecotec... Does the current gen Vue Green Line count? I think it's on sale now...
  3. Imagine the hilarity of seeing people try to make them last 10 years if the mandate were dropped.
  4. Not the Ecotec as a whole, just the 2.4L... and keep in mind that the current 4cyl Vue has the 140hp 2.2L Ecotec, so this is a step up for the base model.
  5. I think some people are going to be caught off-guard and disappointed when the 2-mode Vue gets here, simply because if you read about it in detail, the first 2-mode Vues will not have the plug-in capability - that will be like a year later.
  6. +1, I've thought about getting a Vue someday soon to replace my wife's aging '93 LeSabre, but I'm left debating. She & I both like driving stick, but we can only get that with the pretty slow 4cyl version. The current 3.5L or the upcoming 3.6L with a stick would be a great combo.
  7. Those 3 look kinda cool, actually. When I first looked at the Edix, I thought "that looks like a neat sporty Matrix-type vehicle. That could do well over here!" . . . . . . . . . Then I clicked on a link to an interior shot, and saw the 3 bucket seats across, and thought "holy cow, that's awesome... but that must be an awfully wide car. Still, that'd be sweet to have over here..." . . . . . . . . . "nevermind"
  8. The concept is older than that. The skateboard thing may have started with the autonomy, but I recall concepts much older that would reuse a spaceframe & drivetrain, and just change out the interior & exterior panels. They actually could have done at least the exterior part of that idea with the Saturn S-Series pretty easily, since the body panels were not required for legal street driving, and had nothing to do with body/crash integrity. In fact, you can take a 3rd gen S-Series' body panels and put them on a 2nd gen - they bolt right up. They tweeked the space frame between the 1st & 2nd gens, though, so they don't swap. Would be pretty cool actually - pick out the body style YOU want.
  9. I'm pretty sure (and hoping) it was just a hypothetical situation for the concept design studies. Not that I don't think something like that could happen way down the road, but not anytime that soon. Besides, throwing away cars every 5 years is more wasteful than using them for a long time, short of super gas-guzzlers.
  10. I don't think I've heard of any 2.4L option coming for the XE, except the one in the Green Line.
  11. Yup, that's the one!
  12. I have to say... I'm a bit disappointed by the numbers, and a bit curious how the Green Line's fuel economy numbers compare to a 4cyl version... I think I'll look up an Aura cousin with a 4cyl for better comparison...
  13. bump for a Q: Is the XR available in both FWD and AWD, like the current 6cyl version is? I don't see that stated clearly here... Assuming it will be available with both, it looks like here's the lineup... XE FWD: 164hp 2.4L I4, 4spd auto or 5spd manual XE AWD: 215hp 3.5L V6, 6spd auto Green Line: 164hp 2.4L I4 Ecotec + mild hybrid system, 4spd auto XR FWD: 250hp 3.6L V6, 6spd auto XR AWD: 250hp 3.6L V6, 6spd auto Red Line: 250hp 3.6L V6, 6spd auto *future additional 2-mode full hybrid version of the Green Line coming! That's 7 major models! Wow!
  14. c'mon security... where's a good tackle when you need it? lol I'm happy to see advances toward "green" technology & such, but this is just dumb.
  15. All past Vue Red Line models have just been the top V6 model with a body kit and altered suspension - dunno if they might do the same again. I'm sure the 3.6L+6spd will be very nice, but I'd like to see them make the Red Line model higher performance than the regular top model this time...
  16. I like most of it. Reminds me of a Scion concept a little while back, can't remember the name...
  17. when will people learn that colored tires are dumb. I found myself looking at the tires. Seems dumb when the tires are more eye-catching than the vehicle...
  18. Nope - next gen Vue is being built in Mexico, while GM has nothing to build in Spring Hill.
  19. What if GM could offer a non-integrated OnStar setup? It could boost OnStar revenue greatly if anyone could get a standalone unit for their car, and GM could offer free or incredibly cheap standalone units for those with the outdated setups. The major downside is the loss of exclusivity for GM vehicles...
  20. that's actually pretty cool looking...
  21. YES! THEY PAINTED THE BUMPERS! Overall, I think it looks great. The front looks a bit busy, though. Some nice details in there, like the side marker in the middle of the side vent thing (hope that vent is actually open, not just some stupid piece of plastic...)
  22. I like 'em Overall, the car looks classy... because it looks just like the regular Aura, but with fairly subtle badging. I'd be tempted to take the "hybrid" badges off, though, and just leave the small square green line badge on.
  23. This is really just taking what exists in the aftermarket, and making it available from the manufacturer. While I like the idea of the integrated key & fob, what I DON'T like is the stories of when one breaks or dies, and the cost associated. With my car, I can get a brand new fob from the dealer for about $60, which seems reasonable (for a dealer price, at least - I can find it on e-bay for $15-20). I've heard of the integrated ones costing several hundred, easy. My thought: GM, work toward an integrated setup, but make the key part easily separable from the fob with a screwdriver, so if you need a new key, you can buy just the key part and not the fob, and vice versa. Make them well, too, so fewer people complain about the cost of replacement.
  24. yuck at the chromed bumper section. Maybe it looks better (the whole thing, I mean) in person? *shrug* Judging by this pic, the old one looked better, IMO.
