  1. Hasn't it already pretty much been stated that Saturn is getting the next gen Corsa? They looked at bringing the current gen, found that it'd take 3 years & a ton of money, and the next gen was 5 years away (getting closer to 4 now?), so they were just gonna wait on the next gen.
  2. Actually, the CANDU reactor has the same positive void coefficient problem as the Russian reactors, just to a far lesser extent, so it is easy to control and is generally safe. The design characteristics that allow for the use of the spent fuel bring with them the void coefficient problem. The US doesn't allow for reactors with that problem at all, and thus does not allow the construction of CANDU reactors in the states. That said, the CANDU reactor is still a wonderful design, because the fuel doesn't need enriched (due to heavy water), doesn't require a shutdown to refuel, plus the ability to use the spent fuel. The void coefficient drawback is a pretty minor one, and as said, easily controlled.
  3. What ever happened with his e-bike thing from like 5-10 years ago? *goes to google*
  4. I was gonna say... I thought I heard that they sold EMD... *googled* Yup, now it's Electro Motive Diesel (instead of Division), owned by a couple equity firms. Where is GM coming up with locomotives to sell to Egypt?
  5. believe that they would like to? Sure, I believe that most of the people there (as with most of the people at any GM factory) would like product for their plant. Good ol' job security. Unless you're indicating something else...
  6. typo, spring hill currently makes nothing, getting set up for chevy lambda.
  7. To maybe get back on topic... it occurred to me how Toyota could get these kind of mpg numbers in the next hybrid, and it's so obvious that someone should have seen it before. Plug-in hybrid. They probably can't make it get significantly better mileage without some sort of trick like this.
  8. ^yup, you'd have to buy the latest & greatest phone, mp3 player, every other gadget in order to be able to do the wireless transfer thing. It all looks so pretty when there's nothing but brand new, unchanged hardware to display...
  9. I want to see a real life product (referring to the surface) doing all that without video lag. With lots of extra software installed, not just a bare bones untouched store display. I forsee the blue topped coffee table of death...
  10. I picked it up from a news article... not exactly a secret. lol Heck, it's pretty straightforward. "Hey factory, if you can't build product at a competitive cost and quality, then we'll build it somewhere that can." Sounds like a good strategy to me. I don't know the details of what GM is asking for, but it's all mentioned like shorter breaks and people being accountable for showing up to work regularly. Gosh, what a shocker.
  11. They decided to do it instead of adding a 3rd shift. Could have to do with expected production numbers, but I've also read some things that indicate it could be a move that's part of a series of efforts to get plants to accept more competitive employee practices, and using where product is produced as leverage.
  12. My local dealer has 2 in stock as well - 1 XE, 1 XR.
  13. what changes? I mean, they're removing tooling for both the Vue and Ion, and at some point adding tooling for the chevy lambda... is it something going on outside the scope of all that?
  14. Something like this doesn't surprise me, but the EV1 was different in that it was designed from the ground up to be an electric car, not a conversion dealio.
  15. There is a black XE new Vue at my local dealership. Saw it tonight sitting right out front by the highway. The dealership was closed, but I stopped & walked around it. Looked ok. I think I may prefer the 2nd gen better (outgoing model). I'll have to check out the interior sometime.
  16. try "already has and will probably continue to work." It's amazing the number of people I talk to that go on about this kind of crap. One discussion I got into, the other person began talking like all Toyotas are built in the US. I had to first point out that not all of them are, then point out that paying someone to assemble the product in the US, but paying engineers and management in Japan doesn't really help out the US economy a whole heck of a lot. It's better than nothing of course, but I'd personally rather see a company with US management & engineers have something assembled somewhere else than the reverse. Management & engineering jobs are higher education and pay.
  17. I agree the hummer vs prius thing is crap, but what's the deal with "we've been here more than 3 years, so obviously we're domestic" arguement?
  18. You were one page of posts too late.
  19. Noticed it the other day watching the ReThink American ad on the Saturn website, but then watched it again & it wasn't there. Whaa? I figured out it only appears when you first view the site & the ad plays automatically. If you click the link in the lower right to watch it, the ad is slightly different, and doesn't use this logo. They've separated the planet outline & the rings. I'm not sure I like it, personally...
  20. sure hope that was mostly city driving... and even then it's not good enough to make an echo worth driving regularly.
  21. ...and the new Vue is built in mexico. Lessee... Aura - US Outlook - US Vue - Mexico Astra - Belgium Sky - US
  22. I fail to see how a 25% gain in fuel economy is bull... depends on how much extra the hybrid costs, I guess, but gm4life is right - this goes right after the market that only Lexus is currently appealing to - rich snobs who want the status symbol of both a luxury brand AND a hybrid.
