My S-Series runs fine on 85. lol (high elevation apparently makes 85 roughly equivalent to 87)

Ah, that's a lot more than AP, which has like 4-5 seasons tops. Good thing I didn't sign up for AP for the video streaming, but the free 2-day shipping. Some video streaming was just a cherry on top they added sometime after I signed up.

when you get a chance, can you tell me what seasons? I have access to several via Amazon Prime, and am curious what the differences are in the offerings of each service. I know Netflix is better, just curious how much.

dwightlooi, you apparently missed the second part of my statement: Handling, weight, drivetrain offerings, would all be addressed in a new design, and aren't inherent issues with the mid-engine RWD layout. Considering how good GM's recent turbo 4's have been, and how much work they've put into suspension of recent SS vehicles, I would think they would at least get the handling and drivetrain pretty darn good. Weight could be an issue, simply because of all the safety equipment that is now standard on vehicles, and making up for that weight by using large amounts of special materials could easily drive the price beyond what would work for this kind of vehicle.

What is bad about the Fiero that isn't easily addressed in a new design?

Operation Cut $10k Out Of The Volt Is 'On Track'
PurdueGuy replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
That's a gross generalization that, while it holds some truth in theory, holds little water in real life. Smaller & lighter would generally mean new battery structure or chemistry that will have its own set of characteristics. Might be smaller & lighter but less durable. Might be smaller, lighter, and just as durable or moreso, but runs hotter, or doesn't handle being fully discharged as well, or takes longer to charge, etc. There's pretty much always a tradeoff, especially the longer a technology as a whole has been around. -
Operation Cut $10k Out Of The Volt Is 'On Track'
PurdueGuy replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
The thing to keep in mind is that battery tech isn't new tech. Costs and effectiveness of technology tends to fall rapidly early in development. Granted, there are promising new findings in battery tech research, but most of them will likely prove either too expensive, too fragile, too difficult to manufacture, or fall short of mass use for some other reason, and it's entirely possible that none of the advancements that prove themselves will end up making more than incremental differences. I don't think we'll see the Volt's range increase any - any increase in battery efficiency/effectiveness will be used to reduce weight & cost, not extend the range. Smaller, lighter batteries will win out over longer lasting ones. -
Pretty sure non-GXP is irrelevant when it's LS3 swapped...

Operation Cut $10k Out Of The Volt Is 'On Track'
PurdueGuy replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I would hope they could bring the cost down by 2020, though $10k is a lot, hope it doesn't mean a lot of cheapening, but simply spreading out overhead & brining down the cost of the tech. -
I'm going to have to seriously consider one of these in wagon form over an HHR as a biz vehicle. Mmmm... There's someone with an '05 Legacy GT wagon in white I see every once in a while around town. HOT.

Hybrid drives where it's one unit, or hybrid setups involving more than one hard drive? My work desktop (self-built) has a 90gb SSD OS drive + RAID10 array (4x750gb Caviar Black). one unit, like the seagate momentus XT. It's a nice idea, at least until SSDs come down in price enough to push out standard drives for common use, but the reviews I've seen on newegg make me think they have some issues to work out still. I was looking at them ~1mo ago while considering an upgrade for my laptop.

IMO, looks good, not great. Just not getting real excited about it, sorry.

Texas House Approves Plan To Raise Speed Limits
PurdueGuy replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
What a crazy idea - letting engineers decide what speeds are safe for particular sections of road, rather than having a committee listen to the interest groups they get the most support from, and decide what is safe based on that. -
Agreed, I don't see any need to get the Corvette in any form under $40k, and see no issue with it starting at $45k. Build a Miata competitor for the $20-40k range, something very competent but ranging from budget sporty car to solid sports car. Corvette should range from undeniable sports car to budget supercar, as it does now.

Re:Decontenting I agree that the Corvette should have a high quality interior, but IMO there is a lot of value in offering an entry level model that doesn't have unneeded things like Nav, power seats, etc. You want the Corvette to be respected as a performance vehicle, get it on the track as much as possible. You think someone looking to seriously race a Corvette wants Nav? NO. And the fact of the matter is some racing doesn't allow for removal of stock equipment, even if it's as worthless for racing as nav. This is not a luxury car, though it should certainly be able to be optioned up with some lux options for those that want it. This is a SPORTS car. Heck, take a look at Porsche & others - they charge MORE for decontented cars, because of weight savings (of course they also throw in some things like lightened parts). Not sure they should go there with the Corvette, but keep in mind that if the target is other true sports cars, a decontented model is more than appropriate, and perhaps could provide for an entry level model at a bit lower entry price than is currently offered.

My 2011 Synergy Green 2SS/RS Chevy Camaro Pics
PurdueGuy replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in The Lounge
Very nice, I didn't know they offered that color until yesterday when I saw one going down the road. Very bright, but still attractive. The black details will look great on it! Tinted lights are illegal in all states - anything that reduces the light output of the stock lights is. How likely tinted lights are to be noticed by authorities certainly varies from place to place though. -
Hadn't though of that, but I can definitely see it now that you mention it.

A Kappa-esque Stingray and decontented "track" base 'vette both make sense IMO.

I've never been a big fan of the Sonata's styling overall. Parts of it are decent, but the front end is just way busy.

I hate CSI Miami (which this is making fun of), but enjoy the original, and don't mind occasionally watching NY. but yeah, the character these jokes are making fun of is just a giant slice of CHEESE.

And don't dismiss timing belt replacements. Always good to look into DIY on maintenance items, though. I'm sure you could find GM dealerships that are glad to "scam" by putting very high prices on easy regular maintenance too, but I would guess it's less common.
