  5. I'm a big fan of this line of thinking. Frankly I'd like to see things go further yet, with congestion taxes automatically levied against city drivers who choose to commute in or through certain high-density areas during peak times. That way, people who choose to drive pay for their usage, and are also dinged for adding an extra vehicle to the road when alternatives exist.
  6. Edged out by a Hyundai? How embarrassing. That's too bad for Ford because I like the Edge over the other two. However, the choice to include hard, sport seats in the top-tier model is mystifying... it's not a Mustang. And lol! The 'automotive society' is why you're all diabetic, diseased and 'obesed.' Cars have always been an appliance for 90% of the population. Any perceived 'closeness' with cars in a prior era is purely based on wishful nostalgia, and the fact that cars were utter garbage before 1990. Enthusiasts too easily confuse the idea that people in 1950 - 1970 - who had to top off their oil every 12 miles and buy a new car every three years because the current one rusted into the owner's post-war ranch's flowerbed - were more 'appreciative' of cars.
  7. It's a clever, funny ad. I'm sure GM will endure a ribbing for it down the line, once they move to aluminium, but it won't have the same impact as this ad does. After some pretty dumb commercials by Chevrolet, this one is a nice surprise. On the interior question, I find Ford's to be the more attractive, but after spending time in both, the build quality of the GM seems a little more 'confident.' But I feel that RAM's interior continues to be the best looking of the bunch.
  8. Proof that Nissan's marketing is bad? Yes! Proof that people want hybrids with meaningful fuel economy improvements? Likely. But they are good at letting everyone know the electric Leaf had its best sales of the year in May.

  11. A little-known speech by a Tesla VP has revealed some big towing news for the Palo Alto automaker's upcoming Model X crossover. In an April speech recently unearthed by industry watchers, Tesla's VP of Regulatory Affairs, Jim Chen, reveals the Model X crossover possesses Class III towing capability. Vehicles meeting this category are capable of towing a gross trailer weight (GTW) of 8,500 lbs (3,855 kg). Chen's comments can be found here, beginning at the 9:35 mark. As a benchmark, the high-end GMC Yukon Denali is rated to tow 8,400 lbs (3,810 kg). That's right - according to Chen's figures, a Model X will exceed a traditional body-on-frame SUV. The Audi Q5, a direct competitor to the Model X, will tow 4,400 lbs (1,996 kg). It's unclear if the Class III rating is standard capability for the Model X or requires an optional package with a larger battery, upgraded cooling and more capable brakes. The Model X is slated for deliveries in fall 2015. Sources: TAGTVOnline/Autoevolution/Teslarati
  12. You're not the only one thinking it. I also see some 200'ishness in it, but that's no bad thing. Sharp looking vehicle and it appears that it'll be very competitive. I'm excited to see it in person.
  13. Wow. This will be everyone at the Alfa display at every autoshow and dealership in 2016:
  14. Wow! Thanks for the advice Bob! Shame you never worked at GM had and never had an opportunity to put these ideas into practice! Cadillac would've been in awesome shape had you been around! Boy, if only Bob was in charge when China debuted the Cadillac SLS. We all took one look at that interior, and were all like, 'wow, the STS' garbage interior is now even more garbage! Cadillac could've really used that interior yesterday!' But since Bob wasn't around, the STS and its interior that was outclassed by the less expensive CTS withered on the vine and remained on the market until 2012, delaying any hope of a competent Cadillac full-size vehicle for another half-decade or so. God, if only Bob had been there!
  15. It feels like Ford has Lincoln Logs for brains. The MKC by most accounts is a pretty good vehicle, and its parent had to muddy the waters with this move. But I guess even if potential MKC sales are cannibalized by a now cheaper MKX, the money still goes to Lincoln anyway. This move does put about two(ish) grand between it and the RX 350, but I'm not sure that's enough to sway people from the Lexus' perceived reliability and lower depreciation. It should put the SRX on notice though.
  16. They should probably offer both. Probably, but I doubt that'd really be optimal for the sake of costs and manufacturing efficiencies. With Tesla's open-source patents, Fisker could smartly work in a way to charge the Karma using Supercharger stations and assist with the capital costs of the system's expansion and maintenance. This not only eases range anxiety concerns, but it'd be a smart PR move for both brands to conjure up a friendly rivalry in the name of changing the industry. Also, I'm sure a Karma owner will be fielding plenty of queries from Model S owners at each station, which could mean higher sales.
  17. I hope Wanxiang will use A123's prowess to make the Karma a fully electric vehicle. As the ELR has shown, range-extension is viewed as an inferior good - a compromise - among the luxury set. If the Karma has an electric range similar to a Model S, the gorgeous design may just be enough to sway Tesla buyers to opt for Fisker instead.
  18. It's a pragmatic goal but I worry it's too ambitious to debut both models simultaneously. This has the word 'delay' written all over it. I'd almost think having the crossover come first would be a better idea, as it'll probably garner more pre-orders and sales than the sedan.
  19. Lincoln's like a daily newspaper - dependably disposable and old news by the time it's off the production line.
