Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Excellent review of RAV4 Prime. To me as of today, this is a much better option than pure EV. More than 40miles range is more than enough for daily commute, and the ICE engine for when you need longer trip. Also, plenty of space and can even handle rough stuff, especially if you put decent tires on it. I think if i would be looking today for a car that would be at the top of my list. -

Why you have to be always so defensive? I was sitting inside, I was driving it and I passed my personal opinion. It may differ from yours, but based on your pictures you are stretching it big time. Bolt is a compact car and I don't expect it to be very roomy in the back. But when I looked at the back seat there was very little room there. Bolt would be probably a great city car or commuter car for someone who doesn't carry people in the second row if the seats weren't so bad. Honestly, I don't remember sitting in a car with worse and more uncomfortable seats. Other than that Bolt is great for what it is. My coworker is slightly below average in his built and he was commenting that seats are not great and he will be looking for ways to improve them. Other than that he is close to retirement and was looking for efficient and economical commuter car and considering the price he got it for, I think it will be perfect for that. -

HAHAHAHA, you really think this photo proves your point? I think it rather proves my point really. -

I was talking about how it feels. EV feels a little sanitized, disconnected. I am sure Tesla feels much better than Bolt (I might drive one soon too, have friends with Model 3 performance) but I heard that from other people too, despite great acceleration it is just not as fun, it like great superfast iphone with wheels. Some people are ok with that. I probably too old to enjoy pure performance without all the extra "fun" parts. -

You can turn it off. Actually, you need to turn regenerative braking on, regular Drive mode is the usual braking mode. It is not too bad, needs to get used too, probably will work well on local roads and the city, but I wouldn't want to use it on a highway. At 6'1' I call bull on that. Even my kids will have hard time in the back seats. The seats themselves are horrendous. GM needs to execute whoever did them. I truly hope the seats in new one are better. No, i didn't try it, but even without Sport mode it was scooting along very well when I punched it. The acceleration is great for a small car like that. Can't imagine the feeling on something like Tesla performance model. But I have to say, just last weekend I went for a drive in my Mustang. When you punch it, it is an event: noise, hard pull, vibration, gear changes, etc. This on the other hand feels like very fast golf cart. Very isolated and boring. I think even though I might get EV commuter in the future, I will try to keep my Mustang forever, it is just way more fun. -

It feels like you press brake pedal quite hard right after you release gas pedal. You can change how hard the regenerative braking works but even at lowest setting it is significant. With actual brake pedal you can modulate pressure but this is digital, either "on" or "off." -

A guy at work got 2020 Bolt. Due to the new model coming out they have crazy discounts on 2020 (MSRP $37k and he got it for $24k, and that is without incentive) So he let me test drive it at lunch. Interesting experience. I was surprised how fast it gets going, it is probably not a Tesla but it accelerates very fast. When you turn on regenerative braking you don’t even need to touch brakes on local roads. Though one pedal driving needs to get used to, it is a little weird. The biggest bad thing is for some reason the seats are horrible, simply horrible. They are very narrow and hard. Not sure why, because plenty of width in the car. Would be a definite no for me just because of that. I truly hope they changed it in the new one because they truly are horrible. The back seat is tight as well, I think even for kids. I wouldn't fit behind the front seat set for me. Otherwise, it would be nice commuter car. The driving experience is a little weird, like really fast golf cart. The handling is ok, it is soft, not sporty, would be ok for commuting. -

I don't remember you owing EV vehicle either, just the opposite, but yet here we are. In any case, I am not a truck guy and unlikely to own one. I just passed what I heard from my coworkers. And I heard from number of them that they prefer full size bed in their trucks. -

I have bunch of coworkers who drive full size trucks. They are engineers, so it is their personal vehicles but they constantly use their trucks for home renovations, home maintenance, hunting, etc. They want a full size bed. -

Waiting of pictures of Tacomas and Tundras from 30 years ago to say that others have rust issues too. Just yesterday I drove behind probably a 10 year old F-150 and the amount of rust on it was unbelievable.

It might be true but I believe it when I see it. It has been a lot of talk about solid state batteries but so far nothing realistic. -
Sound to me like you guys just coming with excuses for MEH car, just because it is GM. If it had different badge I think responses would be different. All the reviews said that interior doesn't feel luxurious.

Fisker abandons solid-state EV batteries Fisker abandons solid-state EV batteries | Autoblog "I think personally, they’re at least seven years out, if not more, in terms of any sort of high-volume format," he said. "... once you have a breakthrough in that technology, you need probably three years to set up high-volume manufacturing, and then you need another three years to do durability testing. So even if somebody invented it today, it would be at least probably six years out." -
This is from Buick.com new Envision page, maybe it is just me but Buick is not pushing it just as sleepy boring mommy mobile, but fun to drive premium crossover: The All-New 2021 Envision compact SUV has more than enough style, power and technology to make every day an occasion. No matter what you ask of it, Envision helps you be at your best. DESIGNED TO INSPIRE YOU WITH EVERY DRIVE Details both large and small make for an exceptionally refined driving experience.

From C&D tests Envision: "The new Envision doesn't handle with much verve. Steering feel is largely absent and the body leans in corners more than we like, but its smooth ride quality is one area where the Buick feels legitimately luxurious. " RDX: "Despite its claimed 57/43 front/rear weight distribution, the RDX with SH-AWD maintains a tight line when pushed. A confidence-inspiring trait, it makes quick work out of erasing mildly banked 90 degree turns. The feel at the wheel is light and lively, and the RDX as a whole feels lighter on its feet than a comparably equipped BMW X3 but can’t match the Bavarian in terms of solidity and precision. The stoic Audi Q5, by comparison, feels almost reluctant when pressed to perform similar tight maneuvers, leading us to wonder just how much work its rear wheels are doing." Also: Envision: 60 mph: 7.3 sec RDX: 60 mph: 5.7 sec X3 30i 60 mph: 6.2 sec

EVERY review said that. But even looking at it, it is clear. RDX has more powerful engine: 272hp/280ft-lbs vs 230hp/258hp. It has much better AWD system: SH-AWD is significantly better than FWD based system Buick has. RDX has more cargo space. Dynamically reading reviews for both it is definitely superior than the Envision. I can say that Buick has only one thing that is better - the exterior looks. My wife's previous car was MDX that we drove for 100k miles, no issues. My wife's current car is MDX Hybrid - year and a half, 20k no issues. My parents own 2016 CR-V - no issues, my mother in law owns 2013 CR-V (almost 100k miles) - no issues.

How many manufacturing jobs US lost in the last 30-40 years because corporations choose profits by moving manufacturing overseas and investing nothing here. Incentive means nothing because greed always wins, especially when it comes to corporations and upper management. Honda is using at least 60-70% percent US made parts in the cars they assemble here. How come Honda can design and assemble in US with majority of US parts a better product than GM can do in China for the same money?
-
Also, running for bigger corporate profits is what caused US to loose so many manufacturing jobs to begin with.
