    Depreciation

Thanks, that's a very nice option. However, my current plan is in couple years to take from my dad 2016 Mazda 6 (with my commute I expect mid 30s on regular gas) and to get the Mustang after that. I just put so many miles so fast that getting a nice sporty car seems like a waste. I also do autocross and want to do occasional track days in the future.

Yes, I have a long commute but at least most of it on a highway. However, my next daily needs to be more fuel efficient. The plan for the future is to have cheap daily and a fun weekend car.

2010 Infiniti G37S sedan Bought over 4 years ago with 38k miles for $21k, now at 154k miles, average trade-in value $5.5k $0.13 per mile
  4. I am sorry, but saying that GM "shocked" the world with Bolt that came out in 2016 is a bit of overstatement to put it politely. Absolutely nothing shocking about it. Not saying that GM could not be a leader in electric vehicles, they have the resources, they started with EV1 which actually gave inspiration for Tesla, but as many times before they dropped the ball.
  5. One more thing @Zane Wylder. I actually seriously considered getting a diesel as a daily a year or two ago. But after carefully calculating cost of the vehicle, cost of diesel vs regular gas, fuel economy, maintenance etc. of the same sedan with diesel vs regular 4-cylinder I came to a conclusion that it simply not really worth it for me personally. Which is unfortunate because I do like diesel vehicles.
  6. People keep bringing up that electricity is generated by coal. However, in the US at the moment electricity generation breakdown is as follows: 32% - generated by Natural Gas 30% - generated by Coal 20% - generated by Nuclear Power 17% - generated by Renewable Sources (7% - Hydropower, 6% - Wind, 2% - Biomass, 1% - Solar, Geothermal - 1%) 1% - generated by Petroleum https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/index.php?page=electricity_in_the_united_states If you look at the generation trend by source below, US was generating over 50% of electricity by coal in 2000 and now it is down to 30% and continue going lower.
  7. I think this statement is more of a wishful thinking than reality. Despite of all the issues with Tesla most major automakers are scrambling trying to CATCH UP to Tesla. Also, I am starting to see more and more Teslas around, saw few model 3 already as well (nice car, but damn that duck nose is ugly).
  8. Again, he got with Tesla and SpaceX by not following in foot steps of companies like Ford, GM, Boeing and Lockheed Martin. You can't expect him to start now. He is looking at how things were done before and want to do them in a completely different way. He has been few time already on a brink of bankruptcy and failure but so far managed to pull out and advance further. Will see if that trend will continue.
  9. His arrogance and relentless drive is what made Tesla a company that got all main manufacturers take a notice and try to catch up to Tesla in the EV field. He has pushed way more boundaries with Tesla and SpaceX than anybody else on the planet.
  10. I agree, most charging will occur at people's homes, especially when the EVs will have longer ranges with better batteries. This will work well for suburbs but I am not sure how that will work for people living in the cities. I have lived in NYC and unless there will be electric charging station every 30ft on a sidewalks EVs are not happening for people living in the big cities. As of right now at least 60% of US population lives in big cities. Europe is in even worse situation. Whoever saw where and how people park in cities like Rome, Paris etc. will understand.
  11. Nissan Leaf has currently 150 miles range. Focus, eGolf, Kia and Hyundai Ioniq are about 110-125 so yes, that would be cutting it too close. Personally, I think I will need new daily driver not sooner then 5-6 years from now, so by that time a next generation of EV should be available.
  12. I agree. I think I will be completely open to have my next daily driver as EV as long as we have one regular family car. My commute is long, almost 100 miles per day but even todays EVs can cover that easily. And since I mostly drive highway EV will be better for me than a hybrid.
  13. People now as distracted as ever, people always driving bad and not paying attention. I think it is simple physics and statistics issue: much more cars in general on the road and substantially higher percentage of these cars are bigger, heavier and taller SUVs/CUVs. I do agree though that pedestrians became much more distracted due to the smartphones.
  14. Christy raised gas tax by 23 cent for a gallon. So despite high taxes we at least used to have cheap gas. Now not only we have one of the highest taxes in the US but also one of the highest gas prices as well. Christy made a compromise with democrats that at least they will lower sales tax to compensate for a gas tax, and now our wonderful new governor wants to roll back the sales tax while of course keeping the gas tax hike in place. Got to love politicians ...
  15. Yes, we are close to $3 for regular and well over $3 for premium. Thank you, Chris Christy, you a$$hole!
  16. Yep, I saw few Grand Cherokees in Rome and they look like Escalades there. Funny but Renegade is very popular there, I guess the right size and it looks different than most other small hatchbacks and small CUVs
  17. At least 80% if not more cars there are small hatchbacks, Fiesta size and no larger than Focus. Fiestas are quite popular there btw.
  18. I don't think A-class makes much sense in US, even though I see quite a few of them around, mostly people buying for the badge (like most other similar "luxury" cars from other manufacturers). But I think these small cars make all the sense in Europe. I just came back from Italy and even C-class looks huge on the streets there. Most cars from MB and BMW I saw there were A-class and 1-series
  19. @balthazar Try google GM trucks frame rust. Just saying ...
  20. My vote goes for used. Reason 1: 7 SPEED MANUAL (I think you are buying for driving pleasure - having auto will kill 50% of that experience, just IMPO) Reason 2: As previous posters said you don't really need ceramic brakes for only occasional track day. Reason 3: As you said yourself extra $22k for a car you will drive only few thousands a year doesn't make sense. Awesome cars btw, look great. Sat in one at the auto show, was surprised how tight are they inside, felt almost as tight as Miata. Let us know how Z06 in comparison to your Stingray.
  21. Exactly. My current Max Performance Summer tires handle substantially better on dry and wet when it is warm than the all seasons I had. However, they last about 20-30k max. I can't handle it on a daily driver considering I am driving close to 30k a year, will have to go to high performance all-seasons next time, either Michelin or Continentals.
  22. Too bad that it seems best all-season tires to go to are from Michelin and Continental. I didn't see anything from Goodyear that even close to them in price and performance.
  23. Yes, but 2018 vs 2019
  24. I think previous design looks a bit better
