Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

https://deadline.com/2020/08/california-the-largest-power-outages-in-its-history-this-week-1203015664/ California Facing Largest Power Outages In Its History This Week Amid Record Heatwave. That was this August, imagine if they had additional load of thousands or millions EVs to charge. Their electric power infrastructure is lacking. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

^ Very good, I didn't know that. -
@David This just says vehicle fires. Considering what a small percentage EVs are right now on the road it is not a comparison between ICE and EV. Not that ICE fires are not common, but I think it is a known problem that current technology batteries are way more dangerous when they burn and more prone to overheating and fires.

They should call one as Vladimir, I bet it will wipe out half of Florida ... I think your forgot all these battery fires that go for hours and keep reigniting ...

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
ykX replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
True, but how many of the new homes compared to old ones. My point was that before banning something they need to prepare infrastructure for it, and IMO 15 years is nothing unless they start spending extensively now. I don't see that happening. Their power grid doesn't look to be up to the task and they need to have enough public chargers for people who either do not have private house or can not afford to install charger. IMO this is just a populist move by the current governor and the next one will reverse that decision. Or if that law sticks I see a huge spike in ICE car sales in neighboring states. -

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a34129129/california-ban-internal-combustion-vehicles-2035/ California to Ban Sale of New Gasoline Vehicles in 2035, Favoring EVs Kind of ironic considering how bad is California's electric grid system, with constant power interruptions. Maybe they should improve infrastructure first? -
True, unlike 4 year old Mercedes S-class that from 120k drops to 40k but still crappy buy because will cost a fortune to repair.

Ford actually listened to its customers, which I think is great. Ford Bronco will get a manual with the Sasquatch package after all https://www.autoblog.com/2020/09/21/ford-bronco-manual-sasquatch-package/

Yes an no. Sure in some states salaries are higher, but usually expenses are higher also. I know number of people who moved to a different state with same or lower salary knowing that their income will actually increase due to a substantially lower cost of living.

My previous vehicle while not being my " dream car" definitely was a vehicle that combined daily duties and "fun" duties. And I think it absolutely qualified as enthusiast vehicle. It required certain sacrifices, but I bought it used and very inexpensive, it served me well in both duties. However, I have a very long commute and put between 25k to 30k miles a year, therefore getting a nicer vehicle was counterproductive. I decided that next time around I will have a cheap inexpensive daily and than I will hopefully will be able to get the car of my dream, or at least something else that will be fun if I can't afford the car I want. I have a side job and my wife agreed that the money from a side job will be my "fun" car money. So I am saving up now.

You are right, I don't think there is a hard answer for this question. I just expect people that are passionate about automotive world to invest more into their passion. It doesn't have to be something very fancy or very fast. People can get a cheap off-road vehicle or cheap older sporty car or classic car, and do off-road, autocross, track days, weekend cruises, whatever more inline with their tastes. I just expect people who call themselves auto enthusiast to show some kind of effort, otherwise they are just an average, maybe slightly more informed consumers. For example, you might not be able to buy a $50+k truck of your dreams but your are spending your time and money building the car of your dream. It might be awhile before you finish it but nevertheless you put your time and money into it.

I put LEDs on my car as well, what a difference! Now that there are good quality LED light bulbs it really worth doing it.

Guys, can we get back to the discussion on hand? I mean the packages do influence our decisions to buy but the bottom line is how much we are willing to actually spend. Anyone else wants to voice an opinion? Usually there is no shortage here of people with very strong opinions

Good luck! In these uncertain times it is good to have a good job. Hope it becomes permanent.

I like the color, looks great with black rims and black grill.

Manual transmission is confirmed.

I am not loving it but neither hating it, it is kind of cool but something is missing for me. In any case would take it over the Supra without any doubt.

I think a short discussion in Random Thoughts requires a separate thread. Now the questions is: how much an auto enthusiast should spend on a vehicle? Now I am not talking in hard numbers but in percentage of ones income. The financial wisdom (on all these fancy financial advice websites) states that a vehicle loan payment should not be more than 10% of ones take home income, and total auto expenses (payment, insurance, gas, etc) should not be more than 20% of the take home income. This is a common financial advice for general public. The question is, as an auto enthusiasts should we spend more on vehicles since for us it is more than just an appliance that takes us to work and to for errands? Lets talk in percentage because for someone a 100k vehicle can be just a small percentage of his/her income and for someone a 20k vehicle is half of their income.

This doesn't feel like auto enthusiast forum, more like Consumer Reports forum ...

I am now. Financially it will be a bad idea, I still have mortgage and kids, but I am seriously considering getting car of my dream this year. I am in mid-40s now and there is always some reason that prevents me buying it. I realized that if I am not going to do it soon, than it is very likely might not happen at all, or by the time I can do it comfortably financially it will not matter anymore. On the positive side I think the car I want will hold her value well enough that if I am forced to sell it I should not loose too much money. Exactly, and you never know when a piano will fall on your head.

Those 1000hp trucks and SUVs are not cheap either. Market moved from sedans to crossovers. I don't think it has much to do with sports or muscle cars.
-
No, they are not, Sports cars alive and well. You can't compare performance trucks to a sports cars, different animals. Also, these trucks are nothing new, there were plenty before and none of them killed sports, muscle and performance vehicles. EV sports cars are coming too. Which do you think will have better performance 1000HP EV SUV or a EV sports car?

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Mechanically EVs are definitely more simple. However, a different issue will be that they are heavily controlled by software, complicated software. So there will be different issues. -
I actually lived in Brooklyn at the time. Was out of town due to work that day and couldn't come back because all the bridges and tunnels were closed. Driving over Verrazano Bridge next day and seeing smoldering remains of the twins is something I will never forget.
