Holy Crap The Ford GT Is On Pole For Le Mans!
FordCosworth replied to FordCosworth's topic in The Lounge
Ford's triumphant return Ford claimed decisive victory in the GTE class on its return to the Le Mans 24 Hours 50 years to the day following the American manufacturer's 1966 Le Mans 1-2-3 with the GT40. The pole-winning No. 68 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT driven by Dirk Muller, Joey Hand and Sebastien Bourdais led the charge to a decisive victory. “It’s great,” Hand said. “This is crazy. Hashtag America, that’s what I would say. I don’t know what to say. Just a great group of people, just a lot of great people, that’s what this is all about. This is a lot of hard work – we put it all on the line for them as drivers today. We didn’t leave anything out there, and the car just kept on truckin’. It was a great day.” Team owner Chip Ganassi added: “You know, I’m just lucky to have great people to work with and work for. Representing Ford 50 years after their historic win here, and now to come back with a great team of people and great partners, it’s great. I want to say thanks to my team, everybody that’s involved with this deal from head to toe – it’s incredible. Great finish for Ford's return to Le Mans! Ford GT Finishing Order 1-3-4-9 "This is right up there with all our wins. The race I always want to win is the next one, but this one is going to go in the books as a crowning jewel.” http://www.racer.com/wec-le-mans/item/131007-lm24-gte-pro-ford-s-triumphant-return -
Holy Crap The Ford GT Is On Pole For Le Mans!

There was zero mention of sandbagging in that article. If you would please point out the part where they mention sandbagging. If you're referring to them running ver quick laps then the Ferrari 488 and Corvettes all had BoP changes this week reducing speed and just yesterday they gave a little back to the Vettes. Really? That's actually really cool! -

^^^^^^ Hence my snippet about the C.7R bagging in order to get a BOP change in their favor. -

So now youre slagging the construction of the Ford GT? How about the non production 5.5L in the Corvette? Come on Bong.... -

Yup, the Corvettes were sandbagging. That was the tactic to get a BOP change in their favor. Ya... That's why the Corvette and every other maker in the class got boosts and/or ballast reductions...including frickin' Ferrari. The ACO doesn't like being made to look foolish. Neither does Audi. We shall see how this plays out, but having your boost cut back throughout your effective racing rev range AND adding ballast? That's a pretty good slap. Actually Ferrari has ballast ( 22kg ) ADDED and no boost change. They also get an additional 4L of fuel capacity. Porches only BOP change is added 8L fuel capacity - no air restriction or weight change. And for AM....well I have read of no changes. -

I like the car numbers on the Ford GT's... 66, 67, 68, 69 The significance of those numbers is those are the yrs Ford won Le Mans. -

" The pole-winning Ford Chip Ganassi Racing GTE-Pro team has taken the pre-race Balance of Performance changes aimed at slowing its fleet of Ford GTs in stride. The four GTs have taken on extra weight and lost turbo boost for the 24 Hours of Le Mans after qualifying P1-2-4-5. Those changes, along with penalties to the rapid turbo Ferrari 488s, and breaks for the slow Aston Martin V8 Vantages and Corvette C7.Rs, should reduce the sizeable 3.7-second gap that separated turbos from non-turbos. " This here sounds along the lines of lower boost pressure. But its still not clear to me. http://www.racer.com/wec-le-mans/item/130912-lm24-ford-takes-bop-changes-in-stride -

" The undeniable speed advantage enjoyed by the turbocharged Ford and Ferrari GTE-Pro cars in practice andqualifying has been met with significant Balance of Performance changes just over 24 hours before the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The pole-winning ford GTs, which qualified 1-2-4-5 in the 14-car class, have received an extra 10 kilos (22 pounds) of ballast, moving the four cars up to 1248 kgs (2751 lbs), but that's only a token change. The big pre-race adjustment is the removal of boost pressure throughout the twin-turbo V6's rev range from 4200-7000 rpms. Only the Ford's peak 7100 rpm range was left untouched. " I'm trying to find exactly what is meant by " the removal of boost pressure throughout the twin-turbo V6's rev range... " Does that mean no boost in that RPM range? Lower PSI? http://www.racer.com/wec-le-mans/item/130910-lm24-sweeping-pre-race-gte-pro-bop-changes-made -

Here's hoping this will be the view the competition sees all race long! -
" Say it with me now: U-S-A! U-S-A! In its first ever running at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the all-new Ford GT will start on pole and in second in the LM GTE Pro class. It’s a remarkable achievement for the twin-turbo V6 car just a year after its unveiling, and for a race exactly 50 years after the original Ford GT40's historic win at the 1966 running of Le Mans. Ford and Porsche fans, thank Mother Nature for the rain. Today’s two wet qualifying sessions offered few chances for teams to beat their fastest laps from Wednesday’s first qualifying session. Porsche 919s took an overall 1-2 in qualifying, and the Ford GT will start 1 and 2 in LM GTE Pro, too. The other two Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GTs start in 4th and 5th as well. " Dig it! Ford GT qualified 1-2-4-5... Now lets see if the only American Mfg to ever win overall ( 4x, and all in a row ) can pull a GTE Class win in the return of Ford to Le Mans. http://blackflag.jalopnik.com/holy-crap-the-ford-gt-is-on-pole-for-le-mans-1782125811

So an explanation is given for the decline, of which just about every manufacturer had, and you still feel the need to troll that fact? It's even confirmed in the very snippet of info you copy and pasted.Just seems a little redundant and trollish. Umm, no it's not. You can't just throw out whitewashed numbers, like that is the be all end all to one specific car, and then act like you are not at fault for NOT providing at least a little evidence to back up your claim. Your explanation is what comes off as childish as a result. Thanks for your approval of my post.

DETROIT -- General Motors, which has seen its U.S. market share fall faster than any other automaker through the first five months of the year, is hitting back with multiple June promotions and marketing plays for its core Chevrolet brand. In a message sent to Chevy dealers Wednesday, Chevy U.S. chief Brian Sweeney acknowledged that May “did not deliver the result we planned for.” GM’s 18 percent slide, which it blamed on a planned pullback in rental sales and lost production stemming from the April earthquake in Japan, knocked its May market share to within half a point of rival Ford, and cut into retail share for GM and the Chevy brand. The Ford Mustang performed slightly better than rival muscle cars Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger in a series of crash tests conducted recently by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. While none of the three earned the institute's Top Safety Pick, which requires good or better ratings in five crashworthiness tests, the Mustang came closest. The Camaro fell short in one category and lacks an available front crash prevention system, also known as forward collision avoidance warning. Tests found Challenger to be "most in need of improvement." "Given that sports cars have high crash rates, it's especially important that they offer the best occupant protection possible in a crash," said Adrian Lund, IIHS president. I really thought the Camaro would have performed better since its the " all new " and came out in Q4 of 2015. And it lacking an available front crash prevention system is a surprise too. As for the (un)Challenger... Well its no surprise. Its a relic. http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2016/05/24/ford-mustang-chevolet-camaro-dodge-challenger-crash-safety-tests/84775394/

Fiat News: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Could Face A Sales Ban In Germany
FordCosworth replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
What you say is true if looking at the US market only. In Europe, FCA sells very few of the Ram, Jeep Hemi powered auto's. They do sell plenty of their junky Fiats. This proves out in their recent Monthly report for Europe. FCA sold 354,000 auto's in Europe from Jan to April a 15.6% increase over last year. Sales went as follows: Fiat label - 268,700 Lancia Label - 27,000 Alfa Romeo - 20,800 Maserati - 2,068 Jeep - 35,300 Since taxation is so high based on engine size, Jeep does not sell but a few Hemi's, so your assessment is totally wrong. http://www.fcagroup....S_IN_EUROPE.pdf Wow. Look at all the Fiat labels sold in Q1/2016 Whats really amazing is their piss poor financials for that same time period. -
Love the power of OHC, truly an amazing engine ( design )...too

FCA's CAFE numbers are horrible. FCA ranks last among major auto makers at 20.8. The company actually has to purchase CAFE Credits from others http://www.autonews.com/article/20151216/OEM11/151219893/fiat-chrysler-buys-emissions-credits-from-tesla-toyota-honda

And? So this means what? BTW, the answer is "nothing" because no one gives two $h!s about what Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei thinks. Obvious cheap shot is obvious and not very random. One could say Ayatollah Ali Khamenie comments are a cheap shot Yes they could and should. They could also say that this information was not worth anyone's time in the first place and really not worth spreading around the internet but hey, some folks have to do what they do. I've always found it humorous and a bit confusing when one says not worth " anyone's time " yet they initially comment on it, and then keep commenting.

Iran has banned the import of Chevrolet cars, a week after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei criticized imports of U.S. autos and asked the government to support domestic production. “Why should we import the cars from a bankrupt American factory? This is very odd.” http://fortune.com/2016/05/03/iran-ban-import-chevrolets/

And it has already been discussed that the 4 cylinder model Camaro has not hit all the lots, hence a big reason for its lower numbers. It has also been well discussed, in the past, how many of those Stangs are from rentals, hence the barebones V6 models. An example of the overall fleet increase by Ford. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2016/04/01/ford-motor-company-march-2016-auto-sales/82509024/ "LaNeve said on a conference call that Ford's high car-rental-company sales during the first quarter were largely a function of order timing and do not reflect a strategic shift. Rental cars represented 17% of Ford sales in March, compared to 12% a year earlier." My point was the Mustang outsold the entire Alpha line.... FYI surreal, GM is also increasing their fleet % For April... " Commercial deliveries up for 30th consecutive month " " our Commercial and Government fleet business is growing. ” For March " Commercial sales grew 13 percent, Government sales were up 55 percent ". " GM’s daily rental mix of total sales was 11 percent. " And Ford is outpacing that considerably, hence their overall sales lead. FYI GMs retail sales were higher, which (as a few Ford fans pointed out a few years back) means higher profits in the long run. Again, perspective. Now do you have anything about GM sales to discuss or is the only reason you posted was to flame on about Ford? I didn't know I had to check with you on what was acceptable to post or not. I'll make sure to do that in the future, ok moderator? Oh wait...

I found this interesting... Based on GM's figures for April, the Cadillac ATS, CTS & Camaro had about 10.5K sales combined. The Mustang, at 12.7k, outsold the who Alpha line
