  1. Sounds like a Ricer to me.. I'm all for making a sweet sleeper but I would want a little different base vehicle.. Those Cobalt Turbos(HHR SS) are pretty gnarly little vehicles. A good friend of mine has an HHR SS and he's just put an intake one it for the "fun noises" but it really is a fun little car. He wanted to do more with it but the mileage is over 100k(now that he's has a little more money to play around with) and he doesn't want exhaust to sound 'rice' and stock turbo cars REALLY need to open the exhaust up to make good power. When I was doing contract work for Ontario Power Generation's nuke plants one of the guys who worked there had a black Cobalt SS Turbo SEDAN. The only giveaway was some vaguely BBS-style wheels. He surprised quite a few folks on the 401 in that thing. Hell, he gave me a decent run for my money in my Camaro.
  2. The strategy being followed is the one where Dearborn is spending large dollars on a bespoke platform for Lincoln, with future trickle-down applications for Ford. I believe it's even RWD-based. It's one of the the funniest parts of the whole "Cadillac needs to better" schtick. Cadillac has already moved into Phase 2 of this strategy with the Omega platform (Alpha being earmarked for the Camaro and all). Here wings is dissing it even as his employer emulates it. Sad, really
  3. Eh-Cadillac's doing well enough with what they have. And they'll be getting more in due time. Their strategy is being copied by Ford, so it can't be ALL bad. Some folks just need perspective.
  4. BMW's interiors have never been more than adequate, even on their most advanced cars. The most glaring example of this to my mind is the i8.
  5. I gotta say that being able to buy a $45K vehicle for $28K is a helluva bargain.. but its the norm within an Industry that U have no knowledge of apparently. This is most likely to U cheering on and believing that a slightly plusher Fusion or Taurus.. is the epitome of the segment. $17,500??? I kno where I could get a $50,000 discount on a 2014 S63AMG 4matic.. that's a fact Indeed. And as I alluded to earlier, GM isn't as compelled to give the dealers extra wiggle room on incentives when it's only one basic platform that's underpinning both cars. The reality is that these cars are selling at an acceptable rate versus the German contenders, especially considering that the ATS is a first-generation car in the most competitive sub-segment of the class. Finally, it would appear that GM's long-term strategy with Cadillac in terms of trickle-down tech and engineering is about to pay off in a big way with the new Camaro riding on an Alpha platform. Bottom Line: this strategy is both why and how Ford is spending five billion (at least) on Lincoln. I would hope that the author of this thread is level-headed about any Lincoln-based threads referencing these facts going forward. But I really, REALLY doubt it
  6. Such drama. I merely dismiss the message.
  7. I defer to Casa's sales numbers at this point. This thread was started to highlight Cadillac's sales woes. A bit of context makes the situation a bit clearer and rather less dire. In other words: much ado about rather little. Now: onward!
  8. She says life isn't big, no, it's kind of small Made of small moments, they're all strung together If you don't look out, you might miss them all Then it's just passed you on by like the weather He wants that thunder and crashing of waves The guts, the glory of victory parades She says I'll give you much more than you'll take On that victory day -Tom Cochrane
  9. "Because GM product planning is poor, and they don't put enough money into Cadillac to develop a coupe and sedan at the same time..." Uh... You do realize the ATS comes in coupe and sedan forms... right? And I wouldn't expect a CTS coupe, for the same reason I wouldn't expect an E-Class coupe-nobody would buy it. GM needs to improve Cadillac sales... but in the meantime they're at least canny enough to be utilizing only one platform to do it with.
  10. No worries Casa... I'll shut down this one REAL good: In May of 2015, Cadillac's Alpha vehicles (ATS and CTS) sold 4,145 units. Total sales for the year so far are 18,450. In May of 2015, Lincoln total car sales, split over two different Ford-based platforms, totalled 3,909 units. Total sales for the year so far are 16,021. Bottom Line: Cadillac's car sales could be better. But at least they're using a bespoke platform that uses some pretty nifty engineering. Meanwhile, Lincoln is selling worse, while rolling on worse. I know whose situation I'd rather be in, is what I'm saying :D
  11. Is the little 3.2 any good? I haven't heard anything about it. I mean I doubt they would make a bad engine but it seems odd they chose to do an I-5. right now it is only in the Transit, correct? I don't know if that particular engine is any good. But based on my new purchase I can say that a 3L-sized turbo diesel can be a legit engine for a half-ton truck.
  12. Ya, the same basic system was used in the Tahoe, pickups, and even the Escalade. There weren't a lot of takers, although the tech itself was quite viable. I not sure what Ford's future plans are, but if I were to guess it would have to be cost-efficient. That isn't a troll attempt, but it IS a reflection of the money they've pumped into their truck program recently plus the ensuing vendor hassles putting a crimp in revenue. An EcoBoost hybrid, possibly with electrically-actuated turbos, makes the most sense to me at this point, but the 3.2L diesel is not out of the question.
  13. You're not the only one asking. Robert Cumberford just took a fairly critical view of the "new" Audi R8 over at automobilemag.com: http://www.automobilemag.com/features/columns/1508-by-design-2017-audi-r8/
  14. I'm not sure what the Escalade has to do with the 7-Series or CT6's CAFE scores. What I DO know is that GM was producing half-ton pickups that were producing 25mpg highway with port-injected smallblocks and (if memory serves) four-speed automatics. And that was two truck generations ago. They have the tech in hand, it's just that the customers at the time didn't demand it. Overall corporate CAFE score. The Escalade sells really well and that is actually hurting their score. Not like it is going anywhere but they just need to make the big girl drink a little less. Or, make it bigger! No way was GM making a v8 half ton TWO generations ago that was getting 25mpg. With the bragging rights that they would tout in their commercials there is no way they wouldn't utilize it. When gas was $4/gallon down here(US) the consumer didn't want a truck that got 25mpg???? The Avalanche could do 21 - 22 on the highway back with a 6-speed, so I imagine a fairly basic Silverado 1500 V8 could do at least that and probably better. I probably should have clarified that the Silverado/Sierra in question was a hybrid. And it was the second-generation of GM's hybrid tech (they actually kicked things off with a mild hybrid version of the truck previous to that one). Point being: making a 5500-pound Escalade meet CAFE standards is going to be difficult, but quite doable.
  15. As a coupe that would be dynamite, and easily translatable to production form. It still might be, eventually... But having seen it in person it would be a bit of a hard sell as a sedan. You'd have to throw in a more formal roofline, and the lack of styling knicknacks that make it look smaller than it really is doesn't play with big luxury sedans, where imposing is the name of the game.

  18. Corvettes, Vipers, Ford GT... it would be nice to see them all do well. But realistically I think Audi will snag the overall win, again... boooooooring. And I gotta root for Ken Bowlby-not necessarily Nissan, but definitely Bowlby. Because weird.
  19. I'd go with the Impala as well, unless this was your only car and needed to squeeze every last bit of enthusiast fun out of it. By the sounds of it, that's not the case. I don't know what the roads are like in your area but if possible I'd try and get the 19" wheels on the Impala rather than the 20s.
  20. Never say that crap. I'm from what once was the poorest place in Canada. I'm not as well-off as Casa, but I've come a long ways. Say stuff like that and you're setting yourself up for failure.
  21. No no, I made good and sure it was a '15 and not a '16. Call me shallow, but I'm not spending my hard-earned coin on a truck that looks like a chrome-mouthed carp.
  22. No need to, man. It left the dealership with a full tank of diesel and about 3/4 full of DEF. I suppose I could have been a jerk and asked them to put in two more litres/quarts but I decided to let it slide. I'm going to weigh it today and put a few more break-in klicks on it. It's surprisingly different than the Longhorn, considering they're only two model years removed from one another on the same basic architecture. I'll probably do a writeup on it at that point.
  23. Yup yup yup. Laramie Limited half-ton. Picked it up today!
  24. As unbelievable as it sounds... I think the CT6 may have the upper hand in this one.
