  1. I have 4 down rated posts....all done by the same junior high kid... The first 3 I understand why...because I expressed negativity of his possibly presence @ Cheers and Gears...the last one...well...maybe its because he felt like a dweeb when an unrelated poster in an unrelated post had my sentiments about the same point of view of an argument I had with this junior high kid over at another automotive forum about 2-3 months ago.... And low and behold...somebody up voted that post to make it neutral. Cheers to the Gear head that up voted that post. And you know what...I KNEW that the junior high kid would down vote it!!!! So predictable and childish this man-child is... Thank the Lord for that ignore button... When people quote his useless posts ...they are there for me to see... I just glaze right by so I dont have to be subjected to that kind of torture. I achieved another goal with this post I got to use some more emoticons.   2. Different strokes for different folks, fer sure. Volvo interiors are pretty straightforward. So are Mclaren's, for that matter. Aesthetics count, but I think material quality will tell the tale.

  4. Ya, I meant to refer to the Ghibli. I suppose it could be a 200 with a heavily-modded front end. I'd be pretty surprised if it was all-new in any event.
  5. Looks to be too small to be off the Maserati platform, too. I WOULD say it's also too low a price point, but if they're talking "Ferrari-sourced V6" (ciao, Dino!) then maybe Sergio's talk about chasing Bimmer has merit.
  6. I haven't seen the interior before, as best as I can remember. It's pretty spiffy.
  7. There are size classes and price classes. I'll grant you that the Lincoln may not be an exact size match for the Buick. But I can guarantee you that, like they did in the half-ton segment, GM will have more flexibility with pricing than FoMoCo will with an all-new product.
  8. Except for the loathsome Sync system, the Enclave is already starting to fall behind on the powertrain. However, Enclave has 3-row seating. Given that the Enclave has spotted the Lincoln several year's worth of potential for tech and engineering advancements I'm still content with the Buick's chances. And let's face it, when Lincoln's small SUV sells only a fraction of even Cadillac's SUV offerings (including the Escalade!) it doesn't exactly bode well for this one, even with the aggressive pricing. Well you do have a point there. The Enclave alone sold 62,300 units in 2014 where as all of the Lincoln SUVs (MKC, MKX, MKT, and Navigator) combined sold 52,305 in 2014. However, I want to see some more powerful engine options and some updated tech in the Enclave. I suspect you'll see an all-new Enclave first. And don't get me wrong-I'd love to see a bit more pep under the hood right now as well. My concern with GM is that they'll stop being aggressive with product updates and whatnot because they're in the catbird seat today. That kind of attitude is detestable to me.
  9. Downsizing and ever increasing use of Aluminum is pretty much a given at this point. Not sure it is a worthwhile effort to criticize one's marketing for pronouncing the fact they are pushing both. It would be great if the use of Aluminum in the F-150 were super effective, but they just barely undercut the GM twins that are all steel. The difference between the two is about one loaded tool box. Is the F-150 downsized at all? Comparable truck weight difference is about 350lbs. But it’s all relative. The new F-150 gained size and capability from previous gen, which was long in the tooth and heavy out of the gate, yet still managed to shed 500lbs relative to previous gen truck (up to 700 maximum lbs). Not an easy task. I presume if Ford were to keep the truck mostly steel with this new generation, they could have still shed about 150-200lbs, just as GM did with their new generation. It’s all relative. And more weight reduction is coming. They are not done. For that much aluminum (and bragging), I would expect a greater amount of mass reduction. The actual weight reduction is much less than what you cite, but even still, 300 is about how much lighter the CT6 is verses an all steel car of the same size and there is a lot less wiggle room for weight reduction in a sedan than in a truck. And as I noted, the Ford's max towing and payload are still lower than the Silverado's. It's a disappointing execution of a promising concept-one that GM and Mopar can easily capitalize on in this segment, and a pitfall Cadillac appears to have avoided with Omega.

  12. The MKX was always designed to be a personal luxury CUV, and I hope they never change that. Not everyone wants or needs 3 row. The Enclave was mentioned, because GM still does not have a direct competitor. "Not everyone wants or needs third row," he said. ...so I guess the much costlier Navigator could learn a thing or two from the Escalade. Quelle surprise.

With lower max payload and towing specs than the Silverado. And the same observed FE. And an as-tested price five grand more. And less interior volume up front.   18. Enclave??? The Envision is coming. Indeed. Be that as it may, this latest offering for Lincoln appears to be following the same recipe as the MKC and MXZ before it. It works in three stages: -first, everyone gets all hot and bothered over how it's different from what came before, -second, the reviews start trickling in that say it's an awful lot like the similarly-sized Ford product it's largely based on, -finally, it languishes in the sales doldrums, possibly siphoning sales from Ford products while adding no new engineering or tech to them.
  19. On a more serious note, it's good to see GM admitting that they made product planning mistakes and try to rectify them. If the Cruze sheds weight like the Camaro did and have even reasonably good styling it should be a hit.

Before you go all lovey-dovey over Ford marketing, ask yourself: -why is Ford losing market share, nearly across the board, month over month? -why is it that GM and Mopar are gaining market share in the truck market, and Ford is not? (besides the fact that Ford's frame vendor can't actually build frames)? Ford lives and dies by their marketing. And right now they're dying by it. And don't forget, their "luxury" brand has burned through ad campaigns like they have styling languages. GM is playing the long game. And they are doing it well. All it would take for them to become lighter than the F-Series is some simple bolt-on aluminum components like hoods and front fenders. However, since they already have a healthy lead over Ford in the transmission race there is no real rush to do do.
  22. Even at 41 large this is an insanely capable machine. That's nearly as much twist as a freakin' Bugatti Veyron!
  23. All you have to do is look at GM's market share gains to know that bringing in smaller trucks was a good move. They are effective without necessarily being flashy. By the same token, the Omega platform doesn't have the "whee, lookit ME!" pizzaz that an all-aluminum chassis would. But you can't argue the results.
