Chevrolet News:Spying: Are You the Next Camaro Z28?
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
Al Oppenheiser himself said that he wants to put the boots to whatever Ford puts on the road. Since we know that the GT350 isn't especially light, even in R trim, it makes sense to throw as much carbon-fibre on a Z/28 as possible. Also keep in mind that the LT smallblocks will have been out for three-four years when this debuts, which means that a hotter version is certainly plausible. In other words... roll Camaro.- 18 replies

Sergio Marchionne would get pillored for making such sales predictions. But at least FCA turned a profit last quarter.- 14 replies

I can think of at least one mod...

The free market is the ultimate factor that should determine such things. As with much that I write, there seems to be this impression that I have a hate-on for Tesla and Musk. Not so-I applaud the leaps in electric car tech that he helped facilitate. But from the beginning, his hubris and financing models were suspect.

Here's Musk admitting that production is still well over a year away for the Model 3. They also mention (again) the losses of key manufacturing execs, wildly ambitious budgeting, and crippling quality issues: http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/news/a29083/tesla-model-3-production-date-delayed-elon-musk/

If I told you all the things I've seen and done over the last day or three... well, it's been pretty crazy, put it that way. People who troll for no good reason tend to be a buzzkill as well. Are you going to be the one to go down this road? Seriously?
-
Not much interesting going on in the auto world right now from my POV. Also, thin-skinned haters tend to be a buzzkill.

Well, that may well explain THIS story: "Having only recently begun production on its first CUV, the Model X, and with the launch of its first 'mainstream' model, the Model 3, just around the corner, it's an incredibly important time for Tesla. While it's never good for a company to lose several import executives, now is an even worse time for Tesla to be losing them. And yet two manufacturing executives, including the global head of production, just announced they're leaving." GM reduces fleet, ends Ford's one-month top-sales run regardless. Nice.

The STS coupe wasn't a failure. The failure was failing to do a second one. It was a pretty bold styling exercise, and got the brand attention. The ELR was an afterthought. A beautiful afterthought, but an afterthought. As for the ElMiraj or possibly Ciel: Cadillac chose to go a bit conservative with the CT6. Not my preference, but still recognizable as a big Caddy, and it is a nice place to sit yerself down in. After seeing it in the flesh and spending some time in one, the wife made me a bit nervous when she told me she'd be interested in getting one.

I find it amusing that the only real misstep Cadillac has made product wise is being late to the party with modern small SUVs. As DeLorenzo himself admitted, the Escalade remains both immensely desirable and profitable. It is the Eldorado that he (and me, to be fair) wishes still existed. But the CT6 is a great car. The CTS is a great car. The ATS isn't as space-efficient as some would like, but still... great car. They DO need more/better advertising tho

Lincoln News: 2017 Lincoln Continental To Begin At $45,485
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
I stand by my first-hand impressions of the Continental and the pic I posted. In isolation, it would be a decent car. But the CT6, to say nothing of the Koreans and Swedes, will make it tough sledding. -
Economics of scale always make things better. The problem here is that instead of making a break-even proposition profitable, thus adding cash to the coffers, it only stops the cash from hemorraging out, and gives early buyers a bit longer to see when (if?) their deposits will be used to make cars or buy padlocks. Also, no economics of scale will help recoup some of the design weirdness of the Model X, which by no coincidence is their most expensive vehicle.

Lincoln News: 2017 Lincoln Continental To Begin At $45,485
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
Look, there's no two ways about it-the CT6 is the superior product. It didn't debut as a pie-in-the-sky concept with derivitive styling, only to morph into a conventional FWD-based barge with iffy detailing. It bowed in production form, with styling that was recognizably Cadillac, on one of the most advanced front-engine chassis on the planet. It's even beat the Ford to market by several months. That's just the way it is -

I'm struggling to see how increasing retail sales and posting two billion in quarterly profit constitutes going down the drain. Such nonsense. -

Lincoln News: 2017 Lincoln Continental To Begin At $45,485
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
Sorry folks. But I have zero faith in Lincoln to get something done right until it actually gets done right. And that display model was not done right. Also, it was pretty obvious that the platform was FWD-based, especially compared to the Cadillac. Kudos aren't free. And I ain't planning on changing that policy. -
It's some weird, foreign game called "basketball," I believe. (even though a hoser invented it)

Lincoln News: 2017 Lincoln Continental To Begin At $45,485
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
I am willing to bet that sewing job was not performed on an assembly line. . And you think it makes it okay given that this was the car they chose to show the automotive world? Pre-production cars are just that... pre-production. There is a possibility of changes to the assembly process or the assembly process not even been fully developed yet. ALL manufacturers have pre-production cars that they use to show the public and press.....and all of them have flaws in assembly. I will never judge a car show debut car on assembly quality, ever. Sometimes the manufacturer let the Press drive these pre-production cars. Often times, they won't even have a VIN because they are due to be crushed after a certain time. The manufacturer will put a disclaimer sticker in the car somewhere indicating that it is pre-production... and yes.. there will be flaws. Once the actual production Continentals start rolling out, then we can have a looksee to judge. I understand that but I've seen a lot of preproduction cars and I think what makes this error obvious is the contrast from the stitching to the door panel color. Just looks way too obvious and it would bug me to no end. I would certainly hope this does not happen to a production model. It doesn't even phase me because it was likely done by hand in a design studio on a tight schedule. It really is a non-issue in a pre-production car. If Lincoln didn't have a recent issue with quality shortcomings on their stuff then I'd agree with you. But the fact remains that the MXZ's launch was delayed by quality shortcomings. When your track record is poor, you need to try that much harder. And I don't see that here, at all.
