  1. Mr. Bong replies: I only report what the magazines report. C/D reported that their tester F-150 was a half-tank of gas lighter than the GM entry, and they awarded the Ford the win. Two whole points, I believe. In the meantime, it also became painfully apparent that FE-the supposed driving force behind Ford's choice of powertrain and body material-was only about equal to the GM trucks as well. Let me put it this way: I'm not surprised that GM has gained huge marketshare in the segment by introducing smaller, N/A trucks with steel bodies over hi-boost gassers that required wholesale tear outs of assembly plants. Much more interesting to me, as it was to most non-Ford fans, was when a Ford product was tested against a non-Ford product. That would be the EB Mustang vs. the V6 Camaro, and the Camaro won in a walk. Just the facts. Sorry if some out there take it personal. ...no, not really.
  2. The downvotes aren't just about me not caring to provide links for fleet percentages. It's more a generalized childishness. And yes, GM is rolling out incentives for two transitional models, two fuel-sippers, and the Impala. Yeesh
  3. Another place I post in had the percentage at 37% last month. I'm not going to bother digging up the link because I don't really care that much. So for sake of argument, it's actually 30%. So they sold about 6,500 units to actual humans. I'm fine with that. It's an orphan platform, it needs to earn its keep all by itself. That's not a problem GM has with the Camaro. The ZL1 will probably edge that number up a bit, but as I've said elsewhere, this is just a battle in a larger sales war-a war that GM is winning despite basically giving Ford carte blanche in the fleet market. ...and their guardians are even worse
  4. Children, children...
  5. Lovin the downvotes for some pretty plausible assumptions. Ford's fleet deliveries are just shy of 40%. Ford sold roughly 10,000 Mustangs last month. Ford's V6 model is indeed intended primarily for fleet. C/D has explicitly stated it, and likely Others have as well. So it's not unreasonable to think that the Mustang's fleet percentage is in line with Dearborn's as a whole. All of a sudden, the sales lead doesn't look like America has turned wholeheartedly to the Stang, does it? But by all means, keep me laughing :D
  6. I agree that the market as a whole as probably plateaued for now. As for the Mustang: it would not surprise me in the least if 40% of its sales were fleet. Let's not forget that they have an entire trim level aimed at that segment. The Camaro's sales are fine for now. When the ZL1 arrives they will edge up a bit as well.
  7. Lost amidst all the freaking over the Alpha sedans and XTS is the fact that the CT6 sold 700 units last month. The Alpha has spawned a pretty good machine, it appears.
  8. Horrible optics all the same. The high-rollers roll for free while the plebes pay to play?
  9. Six percent year-over-year ain't that bad, especially considering their commitment to retail sales. Actually, it's pretty impressive what they were able to accomplish last month when you keep that in mind.
  10. Still laughing. Because it's sooooooo easy to do.
  11. Is now a bad time to mention that C/D just had a four-banger CT6 that turned in a better acceleration time than MT got from an EcoBoost Mustang? Sounds to me like GM's tech has the inside line on efficiency, dunno about anyone else... Also, butthurt downvoting remains hysterically funny
  12. So basically GM's tech is bringing all the attention because it demonstrably works, and Ford's only gets them to the level of GM's current steel pickups. An expensive bottle of catchup, it would appear
  13. "Engineers at GM are on the verge of putting a couple parts for the Cadillac CT6 sedan into production that are notable because they require welding steel to aluminum. GM is only months away from assembling seat backs and hood reinforcements using spot welding to join the two metals. "It is potentially a game-changer for an industry seeking the fastest and cheapest way to make lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles. Others have expressed interest in GM’s technology. Ford’s strategy, so far, is not being emulated by others." 14. I'm bitterly disappointed that GM was unwilling/unable to do an Alpha Commodore.
  15. Today was a good day.
  16. It is possible that Ford will update the Mustang's crash structure to deal with offset frontal collisions. It seems to have worked for their pickups.
  17. His euro-snobbery, like that of the Germans in the DaimlerChrysler days, is both illogical and counterproductive. The Alfa platform appears to be capable of great things if the Giulia QF is anything to go by. But it needs to pay for itself, simple as that. And as nice as it would be to see Alfa come back from the brink it ain't gonna happen immediately. An additional 100k units per year stuffed with (mostly) Hemis would be a huge help.
  18. If the minivan can't sell enough copies on its own then there are bigger issues. Even throw in a half-hearted crossover if you have to. The Alfa platform, however, is a white elephant if they don't develop mainstream Dodges and Chryslers off of it, pronto. You might get away with a FWD-based 300... but good luck with getting a Charger and Challenger off dat. But since spite is a powerful motivator, I will also mention that a revival of the Imperial brand using that platform would be a great second luxury brand for Detroit.
  19. Remember kids: Childish posters kill forums ...but not before they get all childish and assume certain posters associate all RWD with luxury, because childishness and ignorance go hand in hand It's actually about economics of scale this time. Try and keep up, certain reflexive downvoter :D
  20. It would be an enormous step backwards for FCA of they were to go down this road.
  21. There's a big horsepower range between the top Cruze and the turbo Camaro. I think a 200-220hp FWD Cruze variant would be a reasonable compromise for many. Edit: I was beat to the punch by five seconds
  22. Oops. I meant stoopid.
  23. Eh. Trolls are stupid.
  24. Read the latest issue of Car and Driver. They compared a midlevel Mustang to a midlevel Camaro. The Camaro won because the testers found the V6 to be a much more enjoyable engine than the EB four. Which makes the previous post a bit ironic because if you live in a place called "I RAN" you'd figure they'd want cars that can really, really RUN.
  25. Tesla stock is up $10 in after hours trading. Ford fell after announcing big profits. So much for the market... eh? Musk has the bucks, he can put more money in if he needs to. Bre-X stock was once an investor darling as well. Google how THAT ended up. As Mark Twain once wrote, history doesn't repeat itself-but it rhymes.
