"A 5/8 Ton Truck": C/D Tests Nissan Titan Cummins
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
I dunno, off the top of my head. My primary motivation for buying it was durability, thrift, and a good ride. Now, that Nissan. 7200 pounds is too darn much for a sub-3/4 ton truck. -

Cool, insofar that it's a gasoline-powered truck you are citing. Perhaps another diesel example would be more appropriate. -

While the proliferation of diesel engines into classes smaller than 3/4 ton will doubtless invite more comparison with gasoline powerplants, the FE and durability advantages diesels offer usually win over those predisposed to thrift. Turbocharged gasoline engines do not tend to do well in real-world FE as the vehicles they drive grow heavier. -
He's trying his hand with scripted bits in the voiceovers more these days. I don't mind all that bad because he does tend to find his way into some pretty crazy wheels. His review on the Lamborghini Countach was just fascinating.

I get a kick out this guy's reviews. Not the most polished stuff you'll ever watch, but he's pretty thorough and his love for cars shines through, big-time. He himself admitted he was pretty stoked about this particular car. I'm sure that didn't help

I gotta hand it to this guy, he does a pretty good half-hour discussion on the car. A typically thorough saabkyle04 review, at the link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z9Lvtv0MP_4

Go. All. The. Way: '16 Camaro Motortrend Car of the Year
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
At this point I should probably clarify why I cited the F-150: I did it because the poster who was citing sales numbers in this thread was knowingly off-topic in doing so (sales numbers do not factor into COTY). The F-150 reference was an analogy that used the other poster's flawed logic to further highlight said flawed logic. Without going into detail, admin was a bit curious about why I said it too. Hopefully this clarifies things, and we can get back to discussing the Camaro's candidacy for this year's MT Car of the Year award. -

I didn't realize that the Titan's frame situation was as confuzzled as it was. As I read it the original frame is going to live on mostly unchanged for some applications. -
Money-losing quarters? I foresee brand spinoffs.

What? How are they even relatable? Since when are sales reflective or critical to the award? And the 2015 F-150 did win TOTY. Google is an ally. In what publication? At MotorTrend, the 2015 Truck of the year was the Chevrolet Colorado. The last time the F-150 won MT Truck of the Year was 2012. 2015 - Chevy Colorado 2014 - Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 2013 - Ram 1500 2012 - Ford F-150 2011 - Chevrolet Silverado HD 2010 - Ram HD 2009 - Ford F-150 Truck Trend. Motor Trends TRUCK publication. So, just to be clear. You're citing both a competition and a publication that have NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS THREAD. So... what did you expect to accomplish by doing this? You've already seen that admin is cracking down on trolling. You think this is going to escape their notice? -

Oh, it's almost certainly an engine thing. Like I said, she's a big rig, especially for a half-ton. Even eight gears can't completely hide the mass. But FE is still around 10-11l/100km so I can't complain too much. -

So anyways, back on topic. ...how 'bout that Camaro. Nothing but sweet. -
Oh wow. From World's Largest Automaker (more or less) to this in the space of a few months. Unbelievable, really. How bad does Wolfsburg think this is gonna get that they don't even trust their cash reserves to hold?

Uh... maybe in YOUR world it did (or some publication other than Motor Trend, which is a troll tactic trolls regard as clever). But Motor Trend's TOTY for the '15 model year was a Chevy. Troll handle kids. Yeesh :D -

My EcoDiesel weighs 6300 with hard tonneau installed and it gets similar acceleration and far better FE, although I'll grant it is "only" rated to about 8,000 pounds. -

So, anyways. Back on topic Ya Drew, it wouldn't be a huge shock if the Civic won, but it would be a bit of a letdown. -

Yes, quite. So, as to those rumoured leaks that the Camaro didn't win COTY: if they are true I suspect that harsh words will be spoken behind the scenes, since MT appears to be making a bit of noise about the whole thing for its Monday reveal online. Fun conspiracy time: is it possible that MT are trolling the trolls? -

The gist of it appears to be that the only way to neuter the righteous 5.0 Cummins is to overwhelm it with flab, which at 7200-plus pounds is precisely what Nissan did. Anyhoo, here's the link: http://m.caranddriver.com/reviews/2016-nissan-titan-xd-test-review

I have a great punchline for the Mustang Mile thing, but I'll just sit on it for the sake of decorum. My take on the off-topic stuff is pretty simple: if I think someone's trying to just stir the pot I'll use that to my advantage by digging at the weakness of the argument that usually underlies that type of thing. Since the intent is emotional, not rational, the pot-stirrer is usually too flustered to contribute anything useful anyhow. As was the case here. But if you DID want to split hairs, the only sales info relevant to COTY is the on-sale date, which is Jan. 1 of the calendar year in question. -

It's always a shame to see the last argument mustered being deliberately off-topic. But numbers have a way of weeding out the weak arguments pretty quick. They certainly did this time. Bonus points for "Mustang mile" though. That's just so... so -

What's even better is that the judges are already speculating about the possibilities this chassis opens up for Chevy: "The Camaro SS handles better and is quicker than luxury competitors costing tens of thousands more—the very fact that it nearly ties the old Z/28 in every performance category and does it without the optional magnetic ride suspension makes us anxiously await the higher-performance models that are yet to come." ...wow. Sounds to me like if they offered carbon ceramics, Pilot Sport Cup 2s, and a 3.91 rear end as dealer-installed options they'd have a GT350R killer for about the same as a regular Shelby. Nonsense. But it has been amusing seeing you bring up sales numbers when I already pointed out that they mean bupkis to this thread. Or perhaps COTY uses sales numbers as an awards criteria now. *searches criteria* ...oops, 'fraid not. wings wings wings... on topic, please? Yeesh :D
