"In the new, sixth-generation Camaro... a lot is happening down below, where the front struts and rear links keep the tires’ contact patches firmly and evenly glued to the pavement and the car pointed precisely where the driver intends. Some competitors seem tuned to beat up their occupants in a way that places a theatrical 'sportiness' above actually controlling wheel and body motions. The Camaro seems to be doing everything it can to prevent abusing the driver. "For the first time, the V-8 has a worthy understudy. General Motors, purveyor of so many lackluster six-cylinders in so many models for so many years, has never made such an outstanding V-6 as the 3.6-liter that is new in the Camaro. We found ourselves comparing it to the original 1991 Acura NSX’s mill." More at the link: http://m.caranddriver.com/features/chevrolet-camaro-2016-10best-cars-feature

"When we heard Cadillac Alpha-platform chief Tony Roma talking about some of his team moonlighting behind the wheels of their own race cars, we thought it might be fun to meet a few of them. Wary of the flack-favorite 'our-guys-are-car-guys-because-they-own-cars' stunt... we asked Cadillac if we might be able to set up a track day. When that Friday afternoon came, enough racers had RSVP’d that we could have filled a grid. "The 15 [that showed up]—more wanted to attend but were needed elsewhere—have all helped make the latest generation of the Cadillac CTS the best yet, the sports sedan that has finally put GM on par with its German rivals. Each of them races, and it’s that extracurricular pursuit, plus GM management’s new willingness to harness it to good effect, that gives the 420-hp CTS Vsport such an edge." Chevy prices new 2016 Cruze from $17,495
El Kabong replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Chevrolet
Ya, pretty sure the shipping charges make up the difference. Should be fun to see what kind of mileage the whisper diesel gets. GM essentially has the diesel market to itself now that VW has been turfed. Even if the size of the market itself shrinks it could still be pretty lucrative if Canyonado diesel pricing is anything to go by. -
LA Auto Show: 2017 Fiat 124 Spider: Comments
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
I thought it was going to be horrible. These pics appear to prove me wrong. Actually, I'm impressed that the stylists were able to give this car a completely different vibe than the Miata. Given the nature of Fiat's powertrains I expect that will also apply to the driving experience. The Abarth version that will inevitably come may actually get me behind the wheel for a test drive.- 20 replies

LA Auto Show: 2017 Buick LaCrosse: Comments
El Kabong replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in LA Auto Show
I think the car looks nice overall, if a bit conservative. I'm amazed that they were able to drop 300 pounds from the platform-clearly the Camaro is not a one-shot deal in that regard. The only real jarring thing I can see on the car is the long nose does its best to suggest RWD, but the distance from the front door cuts to the wheelwells says otherwise. Beyond that, a pretty solid effort IMO.- 104 replies

400hp with AWD is good. Front end that has nothing to do with what's going on behind the A-pillars is not good. As mentioned earlier, no cohesion-and this will only become more apparent when the Continental bows with a similar front end plus the rest of the car that should accompany it. A game facelift on a tight budget. But little more.

My Test Drive of 2016 Cadillac ATS-V
El Kabong replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Reader Reviews
"I didn't sit in the rear. Why bother? Its too hard to DRIVE from back there." Statements like this are what make you a beacon of light and wisdom in a world gone mad. ...well, maybe not so much. But I did laugh. Stick around, meng. It's been too long. -

I think this is quite obvious. The XTS to Impala donation proves it to be a perfect model. The Impala is great, but only because the XTS is magnificent. The flip side of that was the ELR. I think going forward.. GM has learned it's sense of directionTop.. to bottom It's the only way to play in today's automotive world. If all you have to work with is middle-of-the-road stuff it's just too much of a hassle and expense to band-aid it upwards.

I've seen the comments section over at MT. "Rational" isn't exactly he word I'd use to describe it. The amount of crying over there is unreal

Go. All. The. Way: '16 Camaro Motortrend Car of the Year
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
I just would like to modify the thread title's last word to "winner." But that's just me -
The XC90 is a nice vehicle. As long as the Chinese let the Swedes build it to their standards it will succeed. Just read the top 50 people of the year list. It's definitely a Camaro-themed night for GM-their highest-ranked name on the list was Al Oppenheiser, at #4. When Tadge steps down, I'd say Al should be a shoo-in.

I'm not kidding when I say that I have seriously considered the 2.0T as well. Maybe it's a midlife crisis thing, but a modded four-banger sounds like quite a hoot.

Go. All. The. Way: '16 Camaro Motortrend Car of the Year
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Trickle-down chassis tech, man. That and not abandoning V8 development. I caught a lot of flak from many corners for being so high on this car for so long. But as soon as they announced that it was going on the Alpha platform I knew it was a done deal. Now, I won't claim that I predicted COTY wins or anything because it's usually mass-market segments that drive the industry forward. But just reading the writeup MT provided with the win it becomes apparent that this win is far, far more than a mere comparo win. This is a very special car. -

Excellence of Execution reaps its reward, both in car and truck form. Chevy is on an epic roll. Probably just a small price difference thing.

"A 5/8 Ton Truck": C/D Tests Nissan Titan Cummins
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Anything is a step up from 12,000 sales last year. I didn't realize it was that bad-they'll be dancing in the streets if the new one breaks 40,000 this year. -
"A 5/8 Ton Truck": C/D Tests Nissan Titan Cummins
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
If you get the regular Titan it isn't even all-new apparently. The frame on the half-ton version is mostly carryover from the last one, at least according to the article I cited. -

"A 5/8 Ton Truck": C/D Tests Nissan Titan Cummins
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Good. Now, really. The Nissan... 12,500 units sold last year. I'm a bit surprised they didn't shutter the program entirely, but the new lineup should help them quite a bit, wot?
