Volkswagen Previews An Electric Concept For CES :Comments

Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure VW is done with diesels for a while.- 16 replies

I'm guessing his shenanigans meter is pegged. I'm not without sympathy on that one. And I'm quite happy to accept that the size of this recall/notice is small. But by the same token it can be argued that this could be a symptom for Tesla as opposed to the actual problem: they're learning as they go along. So, while this (rather large) failure is relatively contained, this is only now showing up on the earliest cars to leave the factory. Can we expect similarly large quality gaffes to manifest themselves as time goes on, and if so, in larger quantity? I've said it before and I'll say it again: building cars is neither easy nor cheap.

Maybe. But I think it'll have a dedicated platform if it's truly an all-electric people-mover. (Sure feels nice to see a Ford product without prepping for World War III)- 16 replies

The car is a good car. The hybrid appears to produce the expected efficiency numbers. If people want to pay more at the dealership so they can pay less at the pumps then they will. I know these people exist, because I am one of them. Also, it looks a lot better than the last one.

Hennessey Dynos Camaro. Hennessey Dynos Stingray.
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
That's the thing. GM has a history of underrating engines (remember that LS7 in the last Head2Head?). But the LT1 is only a couple years old. Is it possible that they've been able to sneak another 20-30hp out of it in only two years? The different drivelines and exhausts have to play some sort of role. -

It'll be interesting to watch, but it's not a slam-dunk. The Infiniti Q45 was a good car too. -
I don't really know what to make of this, really. The LT1 in the Camaro got a fair bit more power, but there are a ton of variables involved too. Any theories? Here's the link: http://blog.caranddriver.com/dyno-shows-2016-chevrolet-camaro-ss-out-muscles-the-corvette/

Hyundai News:Hyundai's Genesis Brand Unveils the G90 Flagship

Hyundai are at least taking the segment seriously enough to drive the rear wheels and offer eight cylinders. Credit where it is due. I'm not offended by the look, but it's not eye-popping either. The suspension tuning tends to be softer for South Korea for some reason, so they will probably need to address that for over here. -
It's the same problem we have with hydrogen. Yes it burns all but perfectly cleanly, but where do you get it from? Water molecules or hydrocarbons. And yes, it takes more energy to do than it produces. In a perfect world we would have sustainable fusion. But we ain't there yet.

This may not apply in all regions of North America right now. Trust me on that.

If I understand correctly, silane is basically a laboratory-prepped hydrocarbon that substitutes a silicon atom for a carbon atom. IMO it's probably better to get energy from sand the Alberta way

Given enough money anything is possible, I suppose. But unless China still makes the old W-body Regal I really doubt it's legit.

And all of a sudden the CT6 pricing scheme makes a lot more sense. Nip this thing in the bud over here. -
