Tesla Increases Lobbying Efforts To Break Into Michigan
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
Guys... you're missing the point. Every else gets caught out on being lazy dealing with known variables. The rookies get caught out on being ignorant of the things they can't control or are unaware of. Moisture, for instance. And it isn't just me picking on Tesla, moisture has gonged other startup operations too. I believe DeLorean had issues with moisture freezing on the engine throttle cable back in the day. Rookie mistake. And though it was far from the only thing, it did contribute to the rookie's demise.- 196 replies

So... Honda got overly confident about their gaskets and/or the service personnel that do oil changes. Neither is an especially bright move, but...- 196 replies

Tesla Increases Lobbying Efforts To Break Into Michigan
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
Once again... Amateurs building cars. As I pointed out previously, the established automakers typically have recalls because the engineering behind their tech, or the components they use, was substandard. In the case of Olds' buddy, his car crashed because Tesla simply didn't realize that moisture and ice buildup could have a negative impact On braking performance, despite knowing that other automakers in their price class used their brake pads to brush their discs dry in wet driving. In other words... rookie mistake.- 196 replies

It's amazing what a spinoff of Ferrari and an increasingly firm retirement date will to to temper one's desire to merge companies.

It would appear to be edging into "personal attack" territory of you put it that way, wouldn't it? The major problem I have with debates is when one participant is unable to separate themselves as an individual from their argument. Dealing with such arguments, and the ones who put them forth, just becomes an exercise in frustration. I'd prefer not to play online piñata in such discussions, but that's just me.

"I don’t think I could have ever imagined a truck so capable, upscale, and yet so efficient ever existing. Benefiting from more than 25 years of truck evolution, it’s remarkable just how capable a mid-size pickup truck like the Canyon has become. While a lot of that credit can rightfully be placed with features such as the truck’s fully boxed frame, the new Duramax 2.8-liter turbodiesel I-4 deserves a nod as well." THIS is how you win awards and gain marketshare. More at the link: http://www.motortrend.com/news/2016-gmc-canyon-duramax-diesel-4x4-first-test-review/

Sales: Sales Figure Ticker - December 2015
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in 2015 Sales Archive
Man, those trucks tho. If I had spent all that money in aluminum only to get clocked by a pair of steelies I'd be pretty embarrassed. Outsold by 40,000 vehicles. Then to have NO ANSWER for the competition's midsize stuff? Someone over at Ford really crapped the bed if you ask me :D Just frickin' horrible- 27 replies

Sales: Sales Figure Ticker - December 2015
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in 2015 Sales Archive
You may not buy a RWD coupe, but you might buy one of the 1.2 million trucks GM sold this year. Holy crap. And not an aluminum fender or turbo V6 to be found in the lot of them. Both Silverado and Sierra outpaced F-series sales increases, and the Canyonados conjured sales seemingly out of thin air. Astonishing.- 27 replies

Central Ontario got a good dose of it a few days ago. And I shouldn't be counting my chickens, I suppose... I remember minus 42 a few winters ago, and a friend of mine remembers minus 53...

Perhaps. But as a certain Vulcan once said, "there are always... possibilities." But if it turns out to be something like a Corvette or Camaro variant I'm down with that too.

I just felt my IQ shrink reading some of the crap passing for logic in this thread. Appalling. Simply appalling. The money GM set aside for the settlement fund is what their culpability should be, based in the court's decision. This stuff, on the other hand, has a distinct whiff of ambulance chaser about it.

Bugatti Chiron Rumored To Be Expensive. Also, Fast.
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
I have to be honest: this car really doesn't hold a lot of personal appeal. It's like Bugatti never got the memo that top speed has pretty much become irrelevant to these types of cars. Everyone is chasing some variant of efficiency per lap time these days. -
Bugatti Chiron Rumored To Be Expensive. Also, Fast.
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
The first Veyrons had about 1,000hp and hit 254. The Chiron is probably going to produce 1,500 and have more efficient aero. That ought to do the trick. As for the thread title: I loves me some dry understatement -

Chinese-Built Buick Envision Packs Bags For The US

We all know cmicasa, many of us have rolled with him for a decade or more, regardless of the handle he uses. But you?... well, bless your heart... you do try -
The 10.2L V8 would have been insane. If I recall Evans was toying around with doing a small run ov street-legal versions!

...if not, here's your chance to get acquainted to one of the "what if" scenarios that GM found themselves in so often in the 80s. I personally remember a writeup on the Evans GTP variant back when it was still a news item. Interesting stuff, found at the link: http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/throwback-thursday-1985-1988-chevrolet-corvette-gtp-race-car/

Chinese-Built Buick Envision Packs Bags For The US
El Kabong replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Buick
It's a similar strategy to what they did with the Regal. The first year they built them in Yurp, after that North America. The wild card is how people react to the whole "made in China" thing. One year they may forgive... but after that they either put their foot down or forget it entirely. -
But that stuff is more a matter of execution, again. It's not like Ford said "we will put cruise control on our cars" and then proceeded to not integrate a cutout for when you touch the brake pedal. They just cheaped out on the components.
