Also, it should be noted (as GM already has) that the GT350 has the Track Pack as an option, as well as a Tech Pack. So realistically there is no 48-grand Shelby. In fact, the price of the GT350 Car and Driver tested was about 57 grand, and I believe it was still missing the Tech Pack at that price.- 28 replies

Ok... here we go with the new list: 1) Alfa 4C coupe 2) last-gen Mazda RX-7 Turbo (Wankel, baby!) 3) Chevy Malibu 1.4T 4) Morgan 3-Wheeler 5) Chevy Bolt for moving stuff. Yes it's electric, but it would offer the 1.4T if it wasn't. -

Given the similarities in weight and MT's estimated 60 grand price (to say nothing of Chevy's press release comparing the two), I'd say the ZL1 is the GT350 and 350R's problem, whether Ford wants to admit it or not.- 28 replies

If it's the TTV6 then you can tweak it for some big dirty fun. If it's NA then the most I can say is that if he likes it the customer is never wrong. I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with them as far as reliability stuff goes.

I'll give props where props are due: the Voodoo sounds amazing. And it would be an awesome thing to drop in a mid-engine, carbon-fibre tub... But in making it Ford also made the Civic Si of ponycars: you gotta rev the whee out of it to keep from being beat out off the line by an SS or 392. And then you factor in the price premium of the Shelby and it all goes pear-shaped.

I like 0-60 as well. It's still a handy metric for a (legal) way to quantify a car's ability to accelerate. It's not the be-all and end-all it used to be now that we have hi-performance AWD cars, but it's still pretty handy.

I've read at least one report that suggests that the ZL1 will start at 60 grand with a curb weight of about 3850 pounds. If that's the case then it'll be the same price as a loaded GT350 and the GT350R. It will be up 114hp on both cars. It'll be up about 210 pounds-feet on both cars. And all while having a curb weight only about 80 pounds more than the GT350. It's not even fair really

Ya. About that CLAIMED top speed... Nobody ever saw 202 in the GT500. Car and Driver never even saw 190. Meanwhile, the Charger (granted, a different car) made sure that they got video out there demonstrating a two-way average run showing its claimed top speed was legit. Long story short: people (and some publications) are getting tired of Ford, and folks who represent Ford, talking out their ass.

Uh... the Hellcat has been the straight-line and top speed champ for about two years now. If it falls to the Camaro it will have been a good run, but the wheel continues to turn. Again: if the manufacturer does smack talk on Ford, and the guy running this forum smack talks on a Ford troll who supposedly works for the company... I'm pretty comfortable in saying what I say, and laughing at the thin-skinned folks who single me out for downvoting. Ford. Has. Lost. The. Plot. In. This. Segment.

Don't even act like you don't LOOOOOVE rubbing in anything and everything GM does. When you're getting smack talk like this DIRECTLY FROM THE MANUFACTURER, downvoting me is remarkably petty. Don't hate the player. Hate the game Or, if you're a Ford fan, hate the dullards, beancounters, and fatheads who allowed the company to become so uncompetitive in this segment.

I WASN'T going to say anything, because piling on is cruel. But, yeah Also like this segment from GM's own press release: "Finally – and unlike some competitors – there’s no need to purchase an optional package to make the ZL1 track ready. Track capability comes standard, with features including an impressive 11 heat exchangers for optimal powertrain cooling." Well. Ouch.

She's a beauty. Everything I was hoping it would be and more. I like all kinds of cars, but very few make me seriously look into buying them. But I'll be making a better effort to slam down the truck payments to accommodate one of these in my fleet.

I too was a bit shocked to read about the 10-speed auto (I had assumed the Raptor was going to get it first). I don't think it'll make any meaningful difference as far as acceleration goes (3.3 as opposed to 3.4 to 60 is a reasonable guess). In fact, I'm a bit concerned about how they're going to utilize all the ratios, especially considering how FCA has been trying to get the recipe for their nine-speed right. I'm guessing that a transaxle app for the Corvette will be forthcoming, as Casa alluded to. But that's it for nitpicking. The car is a masterpiece. And hey, it still has a stick, right? The power to weight plus the wider rubber out back will probably make it at least as quick as a Hellcat in a straight line. And when the road gets curvy it should eat the GT350 alive.

Uh... Robert Cumberford's column for Automobile is called "By Design." He's the longest-tenured staffer they have, having been with the magazine since it was founded. In other words, his words carry weight. As they should. And he points out some objective things, since as the sloppy paint detailing at the top of the a-pillars and the vast bumper strike faces that lack detail. I'm sorry that you are dismayed that folks are starting to pull out the knives with this car. But having seen how this racket works from both inside and out, I could see it coming from a mile away. This Lincoln can't hold a candle to the CT6, either here or in Shanghai. End of discussion.

Two things: the Continental will start at 50 large in FWD, NA V6 trim. The CT6 will start at 54 for RWD and four cylinders. Second... if we are going to be comparing GM's TTV6 to a V8 Benz then I believe we already know how out to lunch the Germans are in this segment. Or, more likely, their fans.

You could. And if you made a career designing cars it would doubtless carry some weight. Look. I didn't write it. All the downvotes in the world don't make a lick of difference to me. I suspected I was right about the car being a letdown, and as time has gone on more and more has come out to justify my feelings. And I certainly don't expect things to improve once reviewers get behind the wheel of the thing. FWIW, not even I called for the euthanization of Lincoln. I still want to see what they can do with D6.

They tried to stifle the comments about it being a faux-Bentley when it bowed in NY last year, but eventually the truth gets out. The fact that it lost a bit of whatever pizzaz it had on its way to production didn't help. A thoroughly uninspired effort all around. I said it from the get-go. The CT6 is a vastly superior car.

Or the brand, for that matter: "I understand former Ford CEO Alan Mulally wanted to drop Lincoln when Mercury mercifully disappeared, but present Ford front man Mark Fields insisted on keeping it. I think Mulally was right. Ford stylists say privately that Fields ordered the Continental be as much like a Bentley as possible, but it looks more like a half-done Asian interpretation of near-luxury than anything worthy of admiration.
